HSE Communication

Sendan believes that everybodys capability to remember and

understand the information is substantiated in these principles:
10% of what they READ
20% of what they HEAR
30% of what they SEE
50% of what they SEE and HEAR
70% of what they SAY
90% of what they DO
Sendan would like to ensure effective communication are in placed
by using the three principal delivery media for communicating
information such as:
a.) Verbal communication
Communication using the spoken word, e.g. face to face
conversations, meetings, interviews, training sessions, by telephone
or over a public announcement (PA) system
b.) Written communication
Communication using the written word, e.g. report, memo, email,
notice, company handbook, policy document, operating
instructions, risk assessment, minutes of meeting, etc.

c.) Graphic communication

Communication using pictures, symbols or pictograms, e.g. safety
signs such as fire exit sign. Hazard warning symbol, or
photographic information.
Health, safety and environmental information, preferably OH&S
risks, environmental impacts and preventive measures, can be
communicated using the media discussed above. It can be
broadcasted in many different forms and sometimes it requires
mixture of these broadcasting methods to ensure that essential
messages are transmitted and correctly understood by all staffs and
employees.
Below are the broadcasting methods we acquired but not limited to
these only and as follows:

a.) Notice Board

Prominently displayed and eye-catching. Typical contents might
include: Policy Statement, Statistic, Emergency Response Plan,
Identity of key personnel including the HSE representatives and
first aiders, minutes of meetings, HSE statistics, etc. It can be
updated on a biweekly basis.

b.) Posters and videos

Used to provide safety information, to draw attention to particular
issues and supporting the organizational culture. Films and videos
are mainly used in training programs and sometimes during the
management meeting. It is usually introduced during company
induction and HSE training conducts.

c.) Toolbox talks
Short, practical safety briefings carried out routinely, preferably
daily, in the workplace, often presented by the supervisor at the
start of the shift. It can be useful for generating awareness and
discussion on safety precautions if it is properly presented.

d.) Memos and emails

Written notifications used to provide specific information about a
single issue, such as updates, changes, introduction of best
practices, etc. This method is dynamic and timing is less
considered, however, when appropriate must be immediately
coursed through.

e.) Handbooks or pocket guide

These documents may contain concise but appropriate
information of site rules, reporting procedure, emergency
arrangement, policy statement, etc. This can be issued as
approved by the Head of the division / department in conjunction
with the CEO / General Manager and with their consents.
