Rockwall Center Lesson Plan Template for Formal Observations

Intern/Resident: Brandi Robinson Date: 11-9-17 Subject: Science Grade Level: 4th

Projected Length of the Lesson: 45-60 minutes.

Learning Objective (Learning Intention)

The student will identify and classify Earths renewable and nonrenewable resources and the importance of
conservation of these resources.

Science
(4.1B) Make informed choices in the use and conservation of natural resources and using reusing and recycling
of materials such as paper, aluminum, glass, cans, and plastic.
(4.2C) Construct simple tables, charts, bar graphs and maps using tools and current technology to answer
questions
(4.2F) Communicate valid, oral and written results supported by data
(4.7C) Identify and Classify Earths renewable resources, including air, plants, water, and animals; and
nonrenewable resources, including coal, oil, and natural gas; and the importance of conservation

Criteria for Success (How will you know if students master the learning objective? How will students know they were successful?)
I will know the students have mastered the learning objective when they can correctly identify the right answer
on the Kahoot!.

Students will know their mastery by:

1. Being able to correctly answer the Kahoot! questions.
Relevance/Real World Application (Can your students explain to someone WHAT they are learning and WHY?)
We are learning what resources are renewable and nonrenewable, as well as, ways we can conserve these
resources.

Interdisciplinary Connections (Other Subject Integration)

Math
(4.4) The student applies mathematical process standards to develop and use strategies and methods for whole
number computations and decimal sums and differences in order to solve problems with efficiency and
accuracy.

ELPS
ELPS.c.2D monitor understanding of spoken language during classroom instruction and interactions and seek
clarification as needed

ELPS.C.2E use visual, contextual, and linguistic support to enhance and confirm understanding of increasingly
complex and elaborated spoken language

Class Information
We have FA students that come in during this time. We have a student that has emotional issues which we are

Students will be able to answer questions correctly from the Kahoot!
3. Assessing mastery after the lesson:
Students will be able perform well on the test.

Lesson Procedures/Learning Activities:
Introductory Activity/Opening:
The class will show their mental math during Number Talks.
Information Giving:
The teacher will walk threw the study guide with the students.
Modeling/Providing Examples:
The students will help fill in the study guide.
Guided Practice:
The teacher will explain how to play Kahoot!
Higher Level Questions/Thinking Opportunities:
1. What actions would you take to help save our natural resources?
2. What might be a solution to dumping trash into the ocean?
Independent Practice:
The students will play Kahoot!
Closure/Culmination Procedure:
The teacher will have the students write a exit ticket.
Instructional Strategies for High Student Engagement
Think-pair-share
Differentiation (Content, Product and/or Process)
The teacher will give the FA students a copy of the completed study guide.

Anticipated Student Difficulties or Misunderstandings:

Students may think that all resources can be replenished.
Students may think nonrenewable means lifetime rather than thousand of years.
(Minimum One page/Double Spaced) Impact Story/Reflection after liaisons lesson should include:
1. What went well?
2. What would you change next time around?
3. Was the learning goal/objective met by most students? What did your assessments reveal?
4. What were your professional growth goal(s) and how was your progress toward your goal(s) reflected in this lesson?
5. What are your next steps?
