1 Introduction

Rome, the capital of Italy, is one of the oldest cities in the world, as well as one of the most
important cultural centers in Europe. The city was founded during the VIII century BC. As
an important trade route between the Etruscans to the north and the Greek colonies to the
south

It tells the legend that originally was founded by the twins Rmulo and Remo, who were
raised by a wolf.

The city was chosen as capital after the unification of Italy in 1870. Rome has remained as
the political, administrative and cultural center of Italy.
2 What to do or visit in Rome?

Rome is one of the three most visited Italian cities by tourists along with Florence and
Venice. Capital of the Lazio region and capital of the Italian Republic.

Its main attraction remains "The


Flavian Amphitheater" known as
the "Roman Coliseum", which is
the symbol of Rome's eternity.
This coliseum is declared one of
the seven wonders of the modern
world. Thousands of tourists pay
every year to enter and see the
Arena, Inside the coliseum, there is
a museum dedicated to the Greek
God Eros.
This coliseum is used for the
procession of the via crucis,
presided over by the Pope on Good
Friday.

Another place to visit, is the Vatican City, located inside Rome, is considered the smallest
country in the world. Because of this, Rome is known as the center of Catholicism.

Within Rome, there are many churches, fountains and monuments that one can visit, one
of them being the Roman Forum, which was once the political and administrative life of the
ancient inhabitants of Rome and also temples dedicated to the gods.

Another well-known place is the Pantheon where buried martyrs and famous personages
of the antiquity (catacombs), was also a place where the first Christians were captured.

In Rome, there is the most beautiful and famous fountain in the world, the "Fontana di
Trevi", says a typical phrase, that if the tourist tosses a coin to the fountain, he will return
to Rome.
