Caribbean and World Statistics Day

Jingle Competition Rules and Regulations

1. Introduction

To celebrate the observance of Caribbean and World Statistics Day 2010


the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat is giving budding artistes
the chance to create a jingle! A jingle is a memorable slogan, set to an
engaging melody. The participants need to write original lyrics and give it a
catchy tune.

2. How to enter

If you can sing, rap or compose a good tune about Caribbean and World
Statistics Day, then please submit your entry form by October 15, 2010. The
competition is open to all students, but limited to a maximum of two entries
per school.

The jingle must be a short song approximating but not exceeding forty-five
(45) seconds which will inform of Caribbean and World Statistics Day 2010.
This jingle must incorporate the theme: Celebrating the many
achievements of official statistics, should try to make use of any or all of
the words Service, Integrity and Professionalism and should be
original. Jingle/rap will be judged on lyrics, originality and musicality

Entry forms are available at your respective schools, at the CARICOM


Secretariat and on the CARICOM Secretariat Statistics Programme website:
www.caricomstats.org.

The competition is open to entries from Thursday, 7 October, 2010 and

entries will close at 4:30pm on Friday, 15 October, 2010. Prizes will be
given to three finalists in the competition.

3. Judging and eligibility

The Caribbean Statistics Day Jingle competition is open to all students


enrolled in a public or private school.

The competition will take place on Monday 18 October and Tuesday 19


October immediately following the Inter Schools Quiz competition.
Entrants should therefore be present for their respective schools quiz
competition.

The three entrants earning the highest points will be awarded 1 st, 2nd and
3rd prize respectively and will be expected to perform their jingle at the
prize giving on Wednesday 20 October, where the winners will be
announced.

Each entry must be submitted with an entry form.

In order for your entry to be eligible to win:

it must be entirely your own original work and you must have obtained all
necessary consents, approvals and licences required to submit your
entry; and

it must not contain any content which is offensive, obscene, sexually


explicit, violent, derogatory, political, defamatory, illegal, immoral, or
which may infringe the intellectual property of any third party.

After the close of the entry period, eligible songs will be judged in the
following three categories:

Originality (How the following words are used in the song Caribbean
and World Statistics Day the theme Celebrating the many

achievements of official statistics and all or any of the words Service,
Integrity and Professionalism ).

Best use of Lyrics (the words Caribbean and World Statistics Day and
theme Celebrating the many achievements of official statistics and all or
any /of- Service, Professionalism and Integrity must be used accurately
in terms of its meaning and clearly pronounced).

Musical Performance

All registration forms must be sent to the Project Director, Regional


Statistics, CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown before
the deadline specified above. This can be faxed to 222-0098 or submitted
via post or hand delivered to the Secretariat. Entries can also be emailed to
stats1@caricom.org. THERE IS NO REGISTRATION FEE FOR THIS
EVENT.

The prizes would be awarded to the winning schools. Winners will be


announced after the World Statistics Day Quiz Competition on 20 October
2010.
