Welding of the firewall on the frame is also acceptable.
A.2.8. Bodyworks:
Bodyworks should be attached to the frame using fasteners and mechanical locks
only.
Bodyworks should not be attached by using nylon ties or any other tie straps.
Each car will be assigned a number at the time of its entry into a competition. Car
numbers must appear on the vehicle as follows:
Note: There should be sufficient visible space remained for the Technical round and brake test
clear sticker in your vehicle.
Note: The number format shown above is just for reference only.
A.3.1. Steering:
Note: Those teams who want to use custom made steering system i.e. 7:1, 6:1 and 12:1 they
can give their requirement as soon as possible. Delivery and manufacturing will take time, so
if your team is interested then place an order to Tech Imperial as soon as possible. ISIE will
provide this steering from our part manufacturing partner at least possible price.
A.3.2. Brakes:
A solar car must be equipped with breaks on at least two (2) wheels, operated by a
single control. They must use the hydraulic braking system.
Repeated actuation of the switch must not restore power to these components,
and it must be designed so that the driver cannot reset it.
The switch must be implemented with analog components, and not through
recourse to the programmable logic controller or similar functioning digital
controllers.
The distance between centers of both lights: Minimum 19.7 inches (500 mm)

A.4.2. Battery Specification:
Teams are to use batteries of the following specification:
Voltage: Maximum 60V.
Battery Capacity: Maximum 6 KWH.
A.4.2.1. Battery Type:
Teams have the choice to use either Li-ion or Lead acid battery. Teams will not be
allowed to change batteries during the event. They need to use the same set of
batteries throughout the event.
Teams can also use a separate battery of max 12V, for the following function only:
o Innovations.
o Horn.
o Battery level indicator.
o Brake light.
A.4.2.2. Battery pack (power pack):
Battery cover must be designed and manufactured by the teams.
The cover material must be fire and electric proof and properly insulated by fiber.
Flexible rubber or plastic sheets are not allowed to be used as covers.
Also, the battery cover should be made up of rigid plastic/glass fiber/ sheet metal,
with an insulating coating.
It should be mounted rigidly during the event, nylon ties, strings or wire of any
kind is not allowed for mounting.
The casing of the battery should be fixed/ welded/ fastened (using lock nuts) with
the chassis.
Note: The stickers named horn, kill switch and battery level indicator should be paste at
their appropriate places.
A.4.3.12. Normal Low Voltage and Tractive system Voltage:
The maximum permitted operating voltage for the tractive system is 60 VDC for
adventure class and 72VDC for Professional class. The maximum operating voltage
is defined as the maximum measured accumulator voltage during
normal charging conditions.
The GLV system must be grounded to the chassis.
The border between tractive and NLV systems should be insulated between both
systems.
Therefore, some components, such as the motor controller, may be part of both
systems.
The tractive system must be completely isolated from the chassis and any other
conductive parts of the Vehicle.
The tractive system motor(s) must be connected to the accumulator through
motor
controller. Bypassing the control system and connecting the tractive system
accumulator
directly to the motor(s) is prohibited.
The NLV system must be powered up before it is possible to activate the tractive
system
Furthermore, a failure causing the NLV system to shut down must immediately
deactivate the tractive system as well.
A.4.3.13. Allowed Tractive System Accumulator:
Maximum Accumulator for Adventure class is 48/60V and 20 MJ .
Maximum Accumulator for Professional Class is 60/72V and 38 MJ.
The following accumulators are acceptable; batteries (e.g. lithium-ion batteries,
lead acid batteries and many other rechargeable battery chemistries) and
capacitors.
All batteries or capacitors which store the tractive system energy must be enclosed
in (an) accumulator container(s).
If spare accumulators are to be used then they all must be of the same size, weight
and type as those that are replaced.
Spare accumulator packs must be presented at Electrical Technical Inspection.
A.4.3.14. Kinetic Energy Recovers System (KERS):
Teams are free to use energy recovery system if they want. But the energy should
be stored in batteries only. Any sort of flywheel or spring for storing energy is
restricted.
A.4.3.15. Dashboard:
The dashboard must contain different indicators in front of the driver.
It should contain:
o Battery level indicator (Digital).
o Speedometer.
o Start button.
o Killswitch.
Ergonomics:
Ergonomics of the driver will be checked if it complies with that mentioned in the
rulebook.
The drivers compartment and position of components relative to the driver.
Weight Test:
In this, the weight of the vehicle will be monitored.
The method involves measuring of weight on all four wheels and adding them
together.
Note: During Technical Inspection teams may be asked various questions regarding the
vehicle and its components. Also, the technical judgment committee can perform on spot
T.I. during line up for further dynamic events. Safety will always be checked before every
dynamic round.
To clear technical inspection, the vehicles must be designed and manufactured completely
as per the guidelines provided in the rulebook.
Acceleration Test
The acceleration event evaluates the Vehicles acceleration in a straight line on the
flat pavement.
Procedure
The cars will accelerate from a standing start over a distance of 50 m on a flat surface.
The foremost part of the Vehicle will be staged at exactly behind the starting line. The
time taken to accelerate would be measured.
This distance of 50 m must be covered within 15 seconds of vehicle start from starting
line.
The vehicle will be positioned with its tip coincident with the starting line.
If a vehicle takes more than 15 seconds to cover the distance of 50 m, it will not be
allowed to take part in any other dynamic event.
Brake Test
All the Vehicles have to pass the brake test to participate in any of the dynamic events.
The Vehicle must stop in a straight line (7 m Maximum) after the brake is applied on
the Vehicle.
Each Vehicle will be given 2 attempts to pass the brake test.
But in case if the Vehicle passes the test in the first attempt it will not be given any
other trials. Brake Test does not have any points, but it is mandatory for the teams to
qualify this round to participate in the dynamic round.
This will test straight line braking capability of the vehicle.
In this test, at least two wheels must lock simultaneously. Teams unable to do so will
not be considered for further dynamic rounds of the event.
The vehicle should not yaw/drift more than 30 degrees, from the line of travel. Teams
unable to do so will not be considered for further dynamic rounds of the event.
On applying brakes, the vehicle should not come in contact with the ground at any point.
Teams unable to do so will not be considered for further dynamic rounds of the event.
The vehicles front end will be positioned at the start line.
Scoring
The acceleration score is based upon the corrected elapsed time. Elapsed time will be
measured from the time the car crosses the starting line until it crosses the finish line.
Scoring formula:
Penalty
Comes Down or Out: A two (2) second penalty will be added for each DOO (including
entry and exit gate cones) that occurred on that particular run to give the corrected
elapsed time.
Did Not Attempt (DNA): If the Vehicle did not attempt or if it does not complete the
event, then those teams would receive DNA.
Scoring Formula:
2
= ( ) 400
2
Maximum of one attempt will be given to each team. Teams can choose any driver of
their choice.
= {( ) 75} + 200
450

Any violation of this rule by a team member will cause the expulsion of the entire
team. This applies to both team members and team advisors. Any use of drugs, or the
use of alcohol by an underage individual, will be reported to the authorities for
prosecution.
Competition Objective A Reminder:
The ESVC event being organized by ISIE is a challenge of design engineering and
manufacturing competition that requires performance demonstration of Hybrid and
Electric Vehicles and is NOT a race. Engineering ethics will apply.
It is recognized that lots of hard work have been put in by the teams for an entry into
ESVC Event.
It is also recognized that this event is an innovation enhancement experience but
that it often times becomes confused with a high-stakes race. In the heat of
competition, emotions peak and disputes arise.
The officials of ISIE are trained volunteers and maximum effort will be put in to settle
the disputes an equitable, professional manner.
General Authority:
ISIE and the competition organizing bodies reserves the right to revise the schedule of
any competition and/or interpret or modify the competition rules at any time and in
any manner that is, in their sole judgment, required for the efficient operation of the
event or the ESVC series as a whole.
1.4. Age:
The minimum age required to be a driver in the competition is 18 years.
2. Drivers Equipment:
Drivers Safety Gear:
The following are the minimum requirements and restrictions that will be enforced
through technical inspection, at any stage of competition. Noncompliance if any observed
by the inspection/organizing/judging committee members must be corrected and no
vehicles without passing the technical inspection would be allowed to participate further
in the event. All the parts of Drivers Safety Gear must meet the required rating (specified).
No driver would be allowed to drive the vehicle without the complete drivers safety gear
in any of the dynamic events.
Drivers Suit:
A fire resistant one piece suit, made from a minimum of 1 layer that covers the body from
the neck Down to the ankles and the wrists. The suit must be certified to either one of the
Following standards and be labeled such as SFI 3.2A/1 (or higher) / FIA Standard 1986.
Underclothing:
It is strongly recommended that all drivers Wear fire resistant underclothing SFI 3.2A/5 /
FIA standard 1986 or higher (long pants and long sleeve t -shirt) under their approved
driving suit. This fire resistant underclothing (SFI/ FIA rated) should be made from an
acceptable fire resistant material and should cover the drivers body completely from neck
down to ankles and also the wrists.
