SPED 421: Family Resource Plan 2017

FAMILY INTRODUCTION
The Johnson family consists of John and Emily who are the parents of two girls and two boys.
They are a Native American Family who participates in their religion, they currently attend a
Baptist Church. Ryan is their oldest son and he is 11 years old. He loves sports and plays piano,
he does very well in school and has a lot of friends. Claire is their daughter who is the second
oldest, she is 9 years old, loves to dance and play outside with her friends. Abbey is their
second daughter and she is 6 years old, she is very smart and independent. She likes to stay at
home and do puzzles and read, she is very shy but when you get to know her she is willing to
open up. Luke is the youngest, he is 4 years old and loves playing outside, climbing trees, and
riding his scooter. He attends a public preschool on Tuesdays and Thursdays. He has a hard
time getting along with his siblings and his peers at school. John is a lawyer in Dallas Texas,
and Emily is a stay at home mom. Dallas gives them a lot of options for doctors and different
methods to help with Lukes hardships. They have a big background of a strong Christian family.

The Johnsons are a great family but have a hard time getting along with other families because
of Lukes condition. The parents relationship is rocky because John blames Emily of being too
relaxed with Luke, and that is why he misbehaves. This really takes a toll on their marriage.
The siblings have built a tight relationship due to the fact that their parents do not get along,
except for Luke who feels left out most of the time. Lukes siblings have a hard time relating with
him, and do not get along as well with him. The Johnsons extended family live in Dallas Texas
as well, but do not get along well with them. Emilys sister and mother have banned their family
from coming over to their houses until Emily can keep Luke under control.

INFORMATION SUPPORT
1 Family Concern/Priority: With all the new changes in the Johnson Family, Emily is very
st

nervous of what these changes will do to her children and how she will transition with being a
single parent. She is concerned that the separation will cause more stress and anxiety in the
home as well as increase Lukes aggressive behavior. Emily wants to have more information on
what she can do to help her children cope with the separation and to learn how to help them in
this separation.
Current Resource/Information: Emily already feels like the separation has taken a toll on her
children and has tried to do what she can to help but feels like it hasnt really been working.
Outcome: Emily is hoping that by finding valuable resources and information of what she can
do to help her children cope with the separation and be a single parent will help reduce stress
and bring the family closer together in the home.
