Situation: Assuming you own birthing clinic with 10 bed capacity, you have 10 staff midwives, 2 staff

nurses and OB Gyne and Pedia consultant. As clinic manager or owner of the institution, you apply all
concepts and theories of management you learned from your subject M106.

1. Apply the concept of quality management in your maternity clinic, site examples to make statement
clear.

Quality of Design
Quality of design begins with consumer research and sales call analysis and is followed by the
development of adequate specifications. Here, the focus is to develop products and services that can
meet the customer's needs at a given cost. This process of developing a product demands effective cross
pollination of ideas among the marketing, sales, services, manufacturing, research and development
departments.

Ex: For many years as a clinic manager of my own maternity clinic, I know already what were my
weaknesses and strength and when are the time or season when my services were in demand and what
is the main reason why my consumers choose to avail their needs in my clinic. Due to these long year of
expertise, I can say what is my client were looking for. Of course when you have a client you interview her
and because of these gathered information you can gradually improve or innovate your services.

Quality of Conformance

Quality of conformance deals with translating user-based characteristics into identifiable product
attributes. It refers to the extent to which a firm and its suppliers can create products with a predictable
degree of dependability and uniformity at a given cost in keeping with the quality requirements
determined by the study on quality of design. Once the specifications have been determined by the study
on quality of design, organizations must continuously strive to improve on these specifications.

Ex: Having a long running maternity means you had met you plan and goal, you also established your
goals to your staff and agreed to your never ending goals by becoming your ally in achieving it. Any
business or organization cannot run without unity.

Quality of Performance
Quality of performance deals with organizing the manufacturing process to ensure that product quality
stringently adheres to specifications. Quality of performance studies focus on ascertaining how quality
characteristics determined in the quality of design, and improved and innovated through the quality of
conformance studies. perform in the market. The profit incurred also depends on quality of performance
in the market. The major tools used to deduce the quality of performance are a study of after sales
service and service call analysis. These tools evaluate why consumers like or dislike a product.

Ex: Trend is always changing due to different researched conducted by curious people when the
research seems to be helpful they tend to accept it. As a maternity owner you want your staff to have a
continuous education for their betterment in handling your client and it is also useful for their career
improvement.

2. You think that some theories of management applies to you on how you managed your own
maternity clinic? Adopt 3 theories that may suited to your personality as manager.

1.Trait Theory
The next leadership theory to find followers was trait theory. Tenets of this theory are:

People are born with inherited traits.


Some traits are particularly suited to leadership.
In 1983, McCall and Lombardo returned to trait theory and found four primary traits by which leaders
could succeed or derail," including:

1. Staying calm under pressure


2. Admitting errors and owning up to mistakes rather than covering them up
3. Persuading others without resorting to negative or coercive tactics
4. Being an expert in a broad range of areas rather than having a narrow minded approach.

2.Behavioral Theory

Behavioral theory proponents assume that leaders are made, mg not born. These theorists believed
anyone can learn to be a leader. Rather than study capabilities or inborn traits, behavioral theorists study
what leaders do. This approach opened the floodgates to leadership development once these
researchers showed that simple assessment procedures werent the only way to examine leadership
ability (Syque, 2006).

Role Theory

Role theory (Merton, 1957; Pfeffer & Salancik, 1975) was based on the assumptions that individuals:

Define roles for themselves and others based on social learning and reading
Form expectations about the roles that they and others will play
Subtly encourage others to act within role expectations
Will act within the role they adopt.

3. You are hereby instructed by the DOH to create your own organizational structure based on the job
description and position. Define each line and boxes that appropriate to their position.

4. In planning stage for fiscal year 2018, you need to show your plan to your staff to get cooperation from
them. How you get their trust to your company.

For the next fiscal year I will plan it on what is company's priority or needs. The first priority is the annual
budget, does the budget of the current year met what was planned last year? What are the alternatives or
back up if the plan budget for next year is insufficient. My second priority is innovation within the clinic.
This is aided by hearing the client's and the staffs satisfactions or recommendations. You will plan to have
a trial on a certain innovation that you want in your clinic. Example; I want my clinic to become paperless
as possible as it can, I will hire a programmer or buy a program to make the charts, doctors order,
patients and clinic records to done electronically.
Third priority is eyeing for other business ventures or branching the clinic on other profitable location.
Branching out means you need a clinical manager and of course you will get the candidates on your
current staffs and it is an opportunity for them to step up in their profession.
My last priority is giving the staff incentives. It can be rewarded if my staff has the most delivered cases
quarterly, having a good attendance or having a good client satisfaction.

5. How you evaluate your staff fairly and honestly?

Evaluation also may refer to the appraisal of a course or to the level of achievement of individual
participants in terms of learning objectives. Evaluation is the process by which a judgment is made about
the relative value of something. Evaluation should be built into all educational services.
Before any system of performance appraisal is instituted, managers must be clear about specifying the
performance standards against which an employees work will be judged. These standards usually fall
into three categories:

1. Quality-Quantity Standards. How well does the employee perform the various tasks in the job
description, and how much of each task does the employee accomplish?

2. Desired Effect Standards. Is the work complete, accurate, and timely? Does it support the goals and
objectives of the institution and users? Does the employee gather sound data as a basis for judgment and
decisions?

3. Manner of Performance Standards. Does the employee cooperate well with others, without friction?
Can the employee adapt to new programs or processes?
