Freezer temperature sensor broken wire repair

Created by: Guanniu (Victor) Han

Apply models: All French door fridges
Symptom:
Unit is showing freezer sensor error, customer cannot see or
change the temperature or do any other operation.

Reason:
The freezer sensor wire is broken at the cabinet side.
The sensor is located on top ceiling of freezer section, the wire
damage is caused by over loading the top bins. When customers
pull the top bin out, the food scratched the sensor and caused
the wire damage/ripped out of liner.
Solution:
The sensor wire is embedded inside the cabinet and not
replaceable but it doesnt mean that the unit is not repairable.
The repair procedures are as below:
1. Cut the plastic liner along the sensor slot around one inch
by a sharp knife.
2. Remove the stuffs around the sensor wires
3. If the broken half of the sensor wire and wire connector are
reusable, then solder it back to the wire harness and then
connect the sensor back to it.
4. If the broken half of the sensor wire and wire connector are not
reusable or not there anymore, then cut the sensor wire
connector and solder the sensor to the wire harness directly.
5. Wrap the soldered wire by electric tape
(or heat shrink cover is the best)
6. Put the sensor back to the sensor cover and then snap it onto
the top ceiling. (DA63-05470B)
7. Since the cutting area is really small and the insulation material
is still good, no need to put any additional insulation stuff, or
simply put a piece of foil tape to cover the cut area.
