Final Case

A. Planning
Suppose you manage a team of seventy-five individuals. Your team members come from nine
different countries in Asia, Europe, and South and Central America, and they are split almost
evenly by gender. Ages range from 25 to 61. In the past, you had a very robust rewards and
recognition budget to help keep your team motivated, and your team has always been high
performing and productive. However, your organization is going through very lean times and
your rewards budget has been completely eliminated. Additionally, the company has laid off
whole teams based on their lack of productivity. You realize how critically important it is now to
keep your team motivated and producing tangible results. Take on the role of a manager of this
organization.

Articulate 10 no-cost motivators. Be detailed and creative with your ideas. Some critical factors
to consider as you create your no-budget program include:

1. What can you do to make the work more meaningful for such a diverse group? As a manager
of the organization I would Introduce culture diversity and engage our employees to get to know
each other it is important that we value every individual. Team engagement is key. Team based
leadership is believed to contribute to understanding in many cultures. I would do team
recognitions and employee recognition of the month.
2. Are there basic needs that almost everyone will respond to? If so, what are they? What can
you do to motivate for them? The basic needs are to engage, respect and trust are what
employees respond to with the rewards budget being eliminated their other ways to engage our
employees.to be an effective leader to use available resources built relationships to achieve the
goal. The path goal theory is purpose was for leaders role is clear the path subordinates use to
accomplish goals, the path allows them to perform their jobs and to be motivated and satisfied.
3. What resources might be available to you to help guide your motivation efforts of such an
extremely diverse team? Leaders can relate to age diversity, since they dont of their cultures.
Age diversity is important to the company skill sets, technology changes the youth can help
understand. Ethnic diversity in Culture is the factors that influences people think and behave and
ethics and behavior is integrity, or being honest and doing the right thing always. (Chapter 3)

As sustainability movements gain momentum worldwide, more companies are revising their
mission and vision statements to address environmental and social issues. Some companies are
going green because it is fashionable and profitable to care about the environment and social
injustice. When it comes to sustainability and strategic planning, some industries face a bigger
Ortiz2

challenge than others. Chemical companies, for instance, tend to be associated with pollution,
poison, and profits. Modern chemical companies may engage in safe, responsible practices, but
the industrys checkered past has led to this negative stereotyping. So how do companies like
DuPont or Dow Chemical strategically position themselves in a world that demands increasing
accountability from businesses? Choose one of the four major chemical companies (Dow,
DuPont, BASF, and Union Carbide) and research their current market strategy. (Chapter 5)

As you conduct your research, be sure to do the following:

1. Identify the mission, vision, stakeholders, and long-term and short-term strategic goals of the
companies. The Dow company is commonly referred to as American multinational chemical
corporation headquarter in midland ,Michigan, united states. The mission of the Dow company is
the human element of work together ,science and humanity can change the world. The vision is
changing the world. The long-term goals are to help prevent food from going to waste by
protecting food and damage and spoiled.
2. Determine how the companies address environmental sustainability in their mission and
vision. The environmental sustainability the issue with food waste and how that food ends up in
oceans , they apply a lot about saving the environment because the environment is important as
a community we can help. Mission is the purpose and competitive advantage, change your food
waste habits and vision inspires people within and beyond the organization it focuses on 9he
future , make it last .
3. Describe any social components of the companies strategies, it to transform a gesture into an
action that shares gratitude , encouragement , kindness and comfort.
4. Outline any areas that these companies should focus on when doing environmental scanning
as part of the strategic planning process. The companies should focus on the waste of products,
and environment issues such as hand washing to avoid the spread of germ, I believe they must
many suggestions on the health environment.

B. Organizing
Governments, as mechanistic organizations, tend to be very bureaucratic and centralized in their
decision making and power structure. Organic organizations, in contrast, are more decentralized
in their decision making and power structure, and they are designed to be highly responsive to
threats and opportunities. Many governments are spider organizations. However, some
governing bodies are starfish organizations that are more organic in their structure and operate
with less formality, allowing more flexibility in decision making.

1. Research McAllen or Mission or Pharr or your hometown city government. Determine if it is a

spider or a starfish organization. Make a short list of organizational qualities that qualifies it as
either a spider or starfish. (Chapter 9)
Rockport Texas is a starfish organization independently of one another, its brain doesnt make
all the decisions or controlling all the action its activities is stay healthy, adapt change self-
contained. Unlike, spider organization traditional, hierarchical and mechanistic. The decision in
the community are made form a chain of command top to bottom.
Qualities of starfish organization: independent, adapts, self-contained, champions, catalysts, and
hardworking and alcoholics anonymous.

C. Leading
Richard, a young Asian American who recently graduated with honors, has joined a prominent
consulting firm. He is a brilliant, enthusiastic, highly motivated entry-level associate.

The buzz around the office is that an exciting new client is to be pitched. This project could
mean significant revenues, and careers could be made from success on this venture. Richard has
been invited to join the team making the presentation to the client in three weeks, and he will
have a significant client-facing role in this project if the bid is accepted.

Richard is surprised about this assignment because he is so new to the organization. He speaks to
his mentor, a partner in a different division, who explains to Richard that the CIO in the
prospective company is an Asian American man. How do you proceed if you are Richard? Write
a short paragraph describing how you would handle the situation. (Chapter 4)

If I were Richard, I would feel offended because of the way I look makes people determine that I
can relate to all the Asian Americans. Stereotyping are rigid and often negative used to describe
or judge and individual based on their membership in a social group. Because of native language
I believe his mentor, wanted his new client to feel comfortable because language can get in the
way. Sometime there English may sound differently from ours and they may not understand
Americans also. But poor listening, selective perception, stereotyping, and prejudices are
somewhat obvious barriers to communication.

Consider the following questions in your response:

1. Is Richard being stereotyped by his company as someone the client CIO can relate to
because they are both Asian American? Yes, I believe that Richard is being stereotyped by his
company because he looks Asian American and they believe he can relate or understand the
Asian American.
2. If you were Richard, would you perceive that your inclusion on the team is a result of your
race? Yes, I believe that the reason that Richard is in the team because of his culture background,
since Asian language is very different sometimes speaking it in English is hard to understand
what they are saying, for the team to have acknowledge him based on his heritage.
3. How might this translate into an ethical dilemma for Richard and/or his company? Ethical
dilemmas are situations in which it appears that acting ethically would prevent the achievement
of an objective. Ethical choice here is to confront Richards partner and ask why he was placed in
the team if he is barely new to organization himself.

Student responses will vary. One reality in life and in organizations is that diversity exists
and organizations, if they want to succeed, try to match their workforce or human
resources to that of their customers/clients. An advantage of this is that in doing so, they
are able to understand the needs and thinking including the emotions and values of their
customers.

D. Control

Control processes take many different forms in organizations. Some organizations define their
vision and mission, set goals and objectives related to the vision/ mission, and then, literally, go
about their business in order to meet those stated goals and objectives. At any point in the
business process, control systems can be applied to measure quality, efficiency, and profitability.

In addition to being an educational facility, your school is a business. Therefore, it controls and
measures, among other things, the quality of the faculty it hires and of the students it admits by
setting performance standards for both. (Chapter 12)

1. Identify the various control processes STC has implemented to ensure quality, efficiency, and
profitability. South Texas College evaluates student achievement through the South Texas
College Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Key Performance Indicators have been defined
across six focus areas of student achievement: Enrollment, College Readiness, Progress,
Completion, Transfer, and Post-Graduation Success to evaluate success along the entire
student pathway. The KPIs are utilized as metrics for measuring progress towards the
Comprehensive Mission of South Texas College. For instance, research the metrics and
standards of STC. The Stc requirements that any person of age can go into college
admission, there a process for different age groups because certain student is in high school.
What is the minimum GPA needed for graduation? The minimum GPA for your major? For
the Bachelor of Applied Science in Organizational Leadership Applicants with prior college level
coursework must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5; Exceptions based on extenuating
circumstances must be approved by the Dean for Math, Science & Bachelor Programs. What
other metrics does STC use to control students academic outcomes? Provide mandatory
orientation to ensure students know requirements to succeed, and offer financial aid advising.
Social outcomes? The strategic outcome in south Texas college Provide streamlined and
student-centered services to ensure a clear pathway for students. Also, strengthen
collaboration between Student Services and Academic Divisions to ensure contextualized
and embedded support for students.
