About the Author

With a family history of Diabetes, before having knowledge of this

fact, I was guided along a very different path!
My passion to explore the mysteries of the universe, along with
the quest for self-improvement and a calling to help others, led
me along the Shamans path.
By shifting my concept of diet and embracing a wholistic
lifestyle, I realized that the very diseases that reduce the quality
of life for many as well as claim the lives of loved ones, only do
so because of the lack of knowledge.
Introduction

Why didnt someone tell us this before?

Maybe because theres no money to be made from it

According to the American Diabetes Association, 29 million

Americans have type 2 diabetes.

And another 86 million people are at risk, many of them children.

No doubt if you are reading this, then you or someone you love
already has diabetes, or theyve been warned by their doctor that
they are close very close to becoming diabetic.

As you probably know, a major risk factor that contributes to

diabetes is obesity.

But with moderate sun exposure, you gain less weight and are
less prone to diabetes.

Yes, I know that sounds far-fetched and maybe even just a bit
crazy. When I first heard that, I thought it was a hoax.

And when I heard that sunlight might even REVERSE diabetes,

well I was in shock.

Fortunately I kept listening, and eventually I realized what a

breakthrough this really is.

So please suspend your justified skepticism for just a moment,

while we talk about the effects of sun on your skin and how
adequate sun exposure might prevent or possibly even reverse
diabetes
Can Adequate Sunshine Prevent Diabetes?

Its an established fact that Scandinavian countries such as

Sweden and Finland have the highest rate of type 1 diabetes in
the world, because of the limited amount of sunlight they receive.

And data also suggests that that sun exposure plays an important
role in the onset of type 2 diabetes. For example, blood glucose
tends to peak in the winter months.

This is why spending time in the sun could be the cheapest and
easiest way to prevent diabetes.

Vitamin D, which comes from the sun, plays a vital role in the
production of insulin, the hormone that regulates blood sugar
levels.

In fact, several studies have clearly shown a positive association

between insulin resistance and vitamin D deficiency. In other
words, the lower your levels of vitamin D, the more likely you are
to develop type 2 diabetes.

Many studies involving subjects at risk of diabetes have shown

significant improvements when they either took vitamin D
supplements or spent time in the sun. The subjects experienced
significant improvements in fasting glucose levels, insulin
production and insulin resistance.

And it gets even better, because a recent study published in the

journal Diabetes, suggests that sunlight may curb weight gain.
When your skin is exposed to sunlight, it secrets a compound
called nitric oxide.

Scientists in Edinburgh and Southampton, led by colleagues at

the Telethon Kids Institute in Perth, found that exposing overfed
mice to UV rays stifled their potential for obesity.

In addition, these mice showed fewer warning signs of diabetes,

such as abnormal glucose levels and resistance to insulin.
Dr. Martin Feelisch of Southampton University said that, These
observations indicate that the amounts of nitric oxide released
from the skin may have beneficial effects not only on heart and
blood vessels, but also on the way our body regulates
metabolism.

With just moderate sun exposure, people have the benefits of not
only hampered weight gain, but also of lowered blood pressure
and more Vitamin D.

Now you might be wondering about the risks of sun exposure.

After all, doesnt that lead to melanoma? While skin cancer is a
serious concern, the fact is that the benefits of sun exposure
outweigh the risks.

9,700 Americans die from melanoma each year, while diabetes

causes or contributes to the deaths of 234,000 Americans
annually.

Furthermore, there is little or no substantiated scientific evidence

that moderate (the key here is the word moderate) sun exposure
significantly increases risks of benign cancers or the deadly
melanoma.

And if you unfortunately develop melanoma, you are actually

more likely to survive if you had adequate sun exposure as a
child and young adult.

In fact, sun exposure is just as important to our health as eating

small amounts of fat and salt, both of which weve also been told
to avoid.

Its a shame that people have been convinced that any amount of
sun exposure is somehow bad for them. For thousands of years
our ancestors spent time in the sun, walking to their destinations,
or riding horses, or doing field work and so forth.

Now we ride in covered cars, spend nearly all of our time indoors
and hardly ever feel the sun on our skin. Its little wonder people
are getting sicker with more diseases than ever, including our 21st
century diabetes epidemic.

Dr. Richard Weller, senior lecturer in dermatology at the

University of Edinburgh, elaborates, We know sun-seekers live
longer than those who spend their lives in the shade. Studies
such as this are helping us to understand how the sun can be
good for us. We need to remember that skin cancer is not the
only disease that can kill us and should perhaps balance our
advice on sun exposure.

Of course, people should be moderate in their sunray intake, and

wear sunscreen when the sun it too hot or theyre going to be
exposed for any length of time.

And by the way, sun exposure has also been suggested to make
people happier. Youve heard of seasonal affect disorder, or the
lack of sun in the winter making people depressed. Just as a lack
of sun can precipitate depression, exposure to the sun can relieve
depression symptoms and cause people to feel happier.
What if you already have diabetes?

According to Michael Holick, Ph.D. and M.D., Vitamin D deficiency

is the most common medical condition in the world.

In the U.S. alone, over 200 million people lack sufficient levels of
Vitamin D.

Because of this they may suffer from chronic health conditions

ranging from small things like fatigue and pain, to life-threatening
illnesses such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes.

According to Andrew Weil, Vitamin D is actually a hormone that

plays a central role in metabolism, and also in muscle, cardiac,
immune and neurological functions, as well as the regulation of
inflammation.

Increasing the amount of vitamin D in the body can prevent or

help treat a remarkable number of ailments, including diabetes.

According to Richard Hobday, author of The Healing Sun:

It is known that sunlight has a similar effect to insulin in that it

lowers concentrations of glucose in the blood. Although this is not
particularly noticeable in normal individuals, the effect is dramatic
in diabetics. It is for this reason that anyone who is diabetic
should be careful if they sunbathe, as they may have to reduce
the amount of insulin they take to maintain normal blood sugar
levels if they are in strong sunlight for any length of time. As with
heart disease, the incidence of diabetes is higher amongst the
Indo-Asian community than the indigenous British population,
and this may be another manifestation of chronic vitamin D
deficiency.

Because type 2 diabetes forms gradually in response to a long-

term pattern of poor eating habits and lifestyle choices, it can
also be gradually reversed through diet and lifestyle changes.
"For people already with T2D, there is some evidence that
vitamin D may help improve resistance to insulin, increase
sensitivity to insulin, and more effectively control blood sugar
levels, says the Vitamin D Council.

According to the Marc Sorenson, EdD., of the Sunlight Institute:

Diabetes is increasing very rapidly and may someday overwhelm

the health-care system. In my opinion, it is the most easily
reversed of all degenerative diseases, so this is a tragedy. Proper
nutrition, exercise and safe sun exposure can prevent almost all
type-two diabetes. At our former resort, about two-thirds of type-
two diabetics were free of all medication in two weeks. It is a
totally unnecessary disease. If you dont have it, prevent it. If
you have it, reverse it.
Just one step of many?

From my diabetes research, Ive discovered what you probably

already know there is no one size fits all answer to treating or
curing diabetes.
While large doses of Vitamin D3 may very well be the answer for
some, I dont want you to think its a cure-all miracle.
It can, in fact, help tremendously, if you are also engaging in
plenty of other healthy habits as well.
For example, if youre eating right, exercising, getting plenty of
sleep and so forth.
Researchers at Kyung Hee University have found that both
physical activity and Vitamin D supplementation combined can do
wonders for normalizing lipid counts, reducing abdominal fat and
improving insulin resistance, especially in type 2 diabetics.

After their 12 week study of 1,200iu of Vitamin D

supplementation and circuit training, they found positive effects
on abdominal fat and blood lipid profiles, calling the combination
of exercise and vitamin D especially effective.

Vitamin D3 cannot make up for bad habits of poor eating, being a

chronic couch potato and not following your health care
practitioners advice.
That said, some diabetics find tremendous relief over time by
using mega-doses of Vitamin D.

Which brings up another point

The magic D3 companion

No doubt youve heard that taking too much Vitamin D3 is toxic.

This advice belongs in the same bin with bleeding the bad out of
people and treating them with leaches.
In fact, its basically a nasty rumor spread by big pharmaceutical
companies to prevent people from taking what might be a
genuine life-extender and even life-saver.
After all, pharmaceutical companies dont make a dime when you
purchase a $10 bottle of Vitamin D3 in the store.
But what they can do is package Vitamin D3 in large doses in
scary looking pills, give it an official sounding name like Dalsol,
Deltalin or Drisdol which are simply 50,000 IU doses of vitamin
D - and sell it to you for crazy exorbitant rates.
Yes, they do this in the name of profit, not health.
Here are the facts:
Vitamin D toxicity is a very rare occurrence and only occurs when
a normal person ingests super high amounts of Vitamin D, such
as one million IUs per day for months at a time.
The fact is, the risks of having too low of a Vitamin Ds level is
many times worse for you.
During the Vitamin D debates during the late 1920s, the U.S.
government commissioned a nine year study by the University of
Illinois on toxicity levels of Vitamin D.
It is referred to as the Streck Report of 1937.
They found that, There were no deaths among the 773 human
subjects whose doses routinely given ranged upward from
200,000 IUs total daily dose for periods ranging from seven days
to five years.
One of the authors even took 3,000,000 IUs total daily for fifteen
days without any evidence of disturbance of any kind.
Also, Vitamin D toxicity has never occurred from too much sun
exposure.
From one doctors website: The early cases of Vitamin D toxicity
that formed the basis for safety concerns generally involved
impurities in vitamin D products, the use of synthetic vitamin D
analogues, accidental use of extremely high doses, or individuals
with vitamin D hypersensitivity. For various reasons, vitamin D
toxicity became an issue of exaggerated concern, the extent of
which is only now becoming evident.
So the answer is no, Vitamin D3 in large doses isnt toxic.
It can, however, cause a depletion of vitamin K2.
K2s role is to keep calcium in your bones and out of your soft
tissues. A widespread result of modern day K2 deficiency is that
children get cavities and require braces, whereas animals and
uncivilized people have perfect teeth and dont get cavities,
despite not brushing their teeth.
But the solution to that is super simple: Combine vitamin D3 with
vitamin K2.
There are 2 kinds of vitamin K2 MK-4 from animal products,
and MK-7 from bacteria.
The MK-7 is much stronger and lasts longer. And because there is
no toxicity with K2, you can take as much as you want in
conjunction with vitamin D3.
8 Tips for Sun Exposure and Vitamin D3
Supplements

1: Stay out of the sun during the extreme heat of the day.
For example, if you live in Phoenix, Arizona in the summer, you
might want to be outside in the sun before it gets unbearably hot,
and duck back inside for the rest of the day.
But if you live in Anchorage, Alaska, unless it is unusually hot,
you could likely be in the sun during any part of the day.
2: Limit your sun exposure to times when youre safe.
Never stay out long enough for even the possibility of getting a
sunburn.
3: Try to get sun every single day.
Now obviously, this isnt going to work on cloudy, rainy days. But
if the sun shines even for just 20 minutes, get out there and
enjoy it.
4: Stay hydrated, especially when youre in the sun.
When you become dehydrated, you have higher concentrations of
blood sugar because less blood flows through your kidneys.
With less blood, your kidneys dont work as efficiently to clear out
any excess glucose from your urine.
And be sure to drink water, not soda pop.
5: Take a Vitamin D3 supplement.
I would suggest you start with 10,000 IUs and work your way up
from there.
6: If youre taking Vitamin D3 supplements, then you
should also be taking a K2 supplement
7: Eat foods rich in Vitamin D, such as eggs, cheese,
yogurt, milk, beef, tuna, salmon, sardines, tofu and
almonds.
8: Exercise every single day if possible.
Studies show that sun exposure or Vitamin D intake combined
with regular exercise offer the best results for diabetics.
Conclusion

In the beginning we asked why we hadnt heard of sun exposure

in conjunction with preventing and treating diabetes.
And we gave an answer, too.
Because there is no money in it.
The diabetes solutions you hear about from doctors and
pharmaceutical companies will almost always involve drugs. And
usually these drugs have powerful side effects and problems.
But sunlight? And Vitamin D?
No problems. No big cost. No side effects as long as you dont
stay out long enough to get a sunburn.
Its what our ancestors unknowingly used to prevent diabetes for
thousands of years.
And more and more studies are showing that it flat out works at
halting, reversing and possibly even curing diabetes, when used
in conjunction with a healthy diet and plenty of exercise.
But you will never, ever hear about it from Big Pharma.
Do you know why Vitamin D is measured in IUs instead of
grams?
Probably to further confuse us into relying on experts to tell us
how to take care of ourselves.
Folks, dont be confused. You are in charge of your health, not
your doctor and not some big Pharma company.
Just you.
Look out the window right now.
Is the sun shining?
Then what are you doing still reading this?
Get out and get yourself some natural vitamin D3 and some
exercise, too.

Maybe Ill see you out there.
