Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is famous s the writer of the Sherlock Holmes stories. Sir rthur was
born in Scotland in 1859. He went to Edinburgh University and studied medicine. He worked as a
doctor for several years, but when he was thirty-two he became a full-time writer.
He wrote romances, advanture, stories and historical novel, but it was the detective stories which
made him famous. He wrote the first story in 1887, while he was still a doctor and in the next twenty
years he wrote fifty more.
Sherlock Holmes lived in Baker Street, London with his friend and assistant,Doctor Watson.
Their enemy in many stories is man called Moriarty. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle died in 1930 aged
seventy-one
