Overall aim and context of the lesson:
The aim of this lesson was to ensure that students are capable of identifying and
understanding that fractions are divisions. Therefore, this lesson only focused on teaching students
how to convert/write fractions into divisions. This is because, this topic is heavy and students need
to learn it in steps to ensure that their understanding is satisfied. Although, in the next lesson
students will learn how to solve division word problems. In such way, teacher ensured that
students are processing the information slowly and accurately since this learning outcome will be
taught in two consecutive days.

Firstly, discuss one aspect that YOU feel you did very well. Try to analyze why you think
it worked well and what hints you would share with other teachers about the successful
strategy/ resource/activity/management style etc.
Secondly, elaborate on the aspect identified by YOU that requires attention. Discuss what
the problem was, why it occurred and what action you intend to take to be more
Classroom management was the most aspect I think that I have succeeded with. This is
because, within every lesson I teach, I ask the students to retell me the classroom rules. In
addition, I clearly announce my high expectations from the students as well as reward the students
who are behaving positively and following the rules. Moreover, I inform them what would be the
consequences behind not following the rules and behaving negatively. Therefore, students from
both sections are lovely and obedient as they dont require reminding them continually of the
classroom rules because of the positive reinforcement I apply. To elaborate, if I notice that a
student from a specific group behaves negatively, I reward and praise the other groups by giving
them points. In such way, I reinforce the positive behavior instead of the negative and students
would behave accordingly because all of them would want to earn points. Moreover, I praise
students in many different ways in order to maintain their positive behavior. For example, I say:
Well done student A, I love the way you are sitting down quietly or Give me five group B, you are
all following the classroom rules. In such way, I am reinforcing students positive behavior and
avoiding their negative behavior from occurring.
In my opinion, I would share with other teachers that having different types of rewarding
system will maintain the students positive behavior within the classroom. Also, announcing your
high expectations is important because students would want to please their teacher.

Whereas, implementing and managing learning is the aspect that requires attention and
improvements. This is because, the first time I taught this lesson in the morning, I noticed many
students couldnt provide me with improper fraction examples. I think such thing occurred
because, students have forgot about improper fractions that were mentioned by their classroom
teacher in the previous week. In addition, many students were confused with completing the
activities within the centers because they didnt have an example in front of them in order to guide
them with completing the activities.
However, this misconception was enhanced in the second lesson. In which, I reminded the
students about the meaning of improper fractions and they gave me many examples of it. Further
more, I took examples of the five centers work from the first class that I taught in the morning and
added them for the second group in order to clarify their understanding.

Personal focus for next lesson:

In my future lesson, I will ensure that I dont underestimate students understanding and
remembering skills. In addition, I will ensure that they are reminded with the topics and they are
given specific hints in order to make them answer my questions. Finally, I would provide the
students with examples when they are completing a task in order to ensure that they are on the
right track.
