ripped through the Caribbe-
an, Florida, and much of the
southeastern region of the
United States. It killed 102
people and caused over $60

On Sunday September 3rd, an
anti-immigrant campaigner
organized an event called the
Patriot Picnic. Members of
the campaign rallied with the
intent of removing the icon-
ic artwork in Chicano Park.
In an email, organizer Roger
Ogden stated that the group
planned to eat lunch in Barrio
Logan at Chicano Park and
then tour the artwork.
Ogden is behind various an-
ti-immigrant and anti-Muslim
social media accounts and
websites. He also started an
email campaign to get rid of
the artwork present in Chica-
no Park. This initiative came
soon after Confederate mon-
uments were removed here
in San Diego and across the
country.
Chicano Park became a Na-
tional Historic Landmark in
January because it symboliz-
es the Latino community and
activism. When word got out
that the event was going to
occur, people came out to pro-
test in a counter-event called
the Solidarity Gathering.

Mexico Struck by Earthquake
and Hurricane Katia

On Thursday, September
7th, 2017 the Mexican states
of Oaxaca, Chiapas, and Ta-
basco were struck by an 8.1
magnitude earthquake kill-
ing 95 people. The epicenter
of the earthquake was locat-
ed off the southern coast of
Mexico and the event could
be felt as far as San Salvador
and Mexico City. 50 million
people are suspected to have
felt the temblor sparked by
what is being called the larg-
est earthquake to hit Mexico
in a century.
The earthquake is being
classified by scientists as
relatively shallow, measur-
ing 43 miles in depth. Shal-
low earthquakes correlate
to more shaking. The quake
triggered a small tsunami off
of Mexicos beaches that was
reported to be 3 feet tall by
the National Weather Ser-
vices Pacific Tsunami Warn-
ing Center.
A day after the earthquake
hit, category 1 Hurricane Ka-
tia unleashed heavy winds
and rains in the Mexican
state of Veracruz. Both nat-
ural disasters resulted in the
loss of power for 1.85 million

Prior to the disasters, Mex-

reporting, ...the Mexican
government will channel all
available logistical support
to the families and commu-
nities that have been affected
in Mexico. Mexico cited the
lessening need in Texas and
the growing need in Mexico
for emergency aid as reason
for not sending relief to the
United States as promised.

that Columbus discovered
America and was confused
when textbooks painted him
as a heroic explorer, com-
pletely ignoring what really
happened. As a Native Amer-
ican kid, I fully agree with Los
Angeless decision to change
the holiday to Indigenous
Peoples Day. The fact that
people have celebrated Co-
lumbus for hundreds of years
since he landed in the Baha-
mas is sickening. His actions
and extremely racist values
led to the enslavement and
murder of millions of indig-
enous people, and in no way
should he be seen as a hero or

Los Angeles isnt even the
first city to change the holi-
day. Since 1990 South Dakota
has celebrated Native Ameri-
can Day. Indigenous Peoples
Day has been celebrated in
Berkeley since 1992. Hawaii,
Alaska, Oregon, and Vermont
have also changed the holi-
day. Many other cities have
changed the holiday even if

President Donald Trump is
by far one of the least experi-
enced presidents who shares
his opinions too much on
social media which is clear
proof of his incredibly limited
political background. He has
taken over the Twitter com-
munity. Everyone within the
nation has their own opinion
on Trump being so active on
social media. According to
Time Magazine, about 69 per-
cent of voters believe Trump
should cut down on the
tweeting.
There are many instances
of President Trump violat-
ing some of Twitters policies.
For example, one policy states
that a person may not make
threats of violence or promote
violence. One of Trumps
tweets clearly breaks this pol-
icy. Trump tweeted a video
that showed him slamming
a person with a CNN logo
over their face, to the ground.
There are many ways to inter-
pret this post because if its
put in context with President
Trumps tension with the me-
dia, it promotes violence.
Many people want Twit-
ter to ban Trump; however,
a Twitter representative told
heritage. However there are
so many better Italian schol-
ars and people throughout
history who were Italian! The
renaissance was dominat-
ed by Italians, and the entire
month of October is Italian
Heritage month.

its political context. But
the site unfortunately seems
to be defending President
Trump. Also, Twitter CEO
Jack Dorsey said to CNN that
hes having a real-time con-
versation with the world.
The site could have a good
case for banning President
Trump. It would include him
always violating the sites
policies and the incitement of
violence. About 72,000 people
have signed an online peti-
tion to ban President Trump
from Twitter but it is unlike-
ly that the petition will effect
any change.
His most recent tweets
have become more contro-
versial including violations of
the sites agreements, harass-
ment, and hateful conduct.
President Trump acts impul-
sive and unpresidential by
announcing important policy
decisions like the transgen-
der military ban via Twitter.
His announcements are being
presented in a casual, almost
careless way by using Twit-
ter instead of going through
official channels of communi-
cation like other presidents in
the past.
The native people have
been enslaved, murdered and
pushed off of their land for
hundreds of years; its only
correct that they get a little
respect and stop having to
celebrate the man who start-
ed it all.

On August 26th, Hurricane
Harvey hit Southeast, Tex-
as. The Hurricane went on
through the 31st and left
Houston, Texas with cata-
strophic flooding. Hurricane
Harvey was category four,
which is the second highest
category where catastrophic
damages will occur. In 2012,
Hurricane Sandy occurred, at
this time Texas Lawmakers
voted against recovery assis-
tance for New York and New
Jersey. Texas senators, Ted
Cruz and John Cornyn sent
a letter to the president that
urged him to sign the major
disaster declaration that had
been requested by Governor
Greg Abbot. This was so Tex-

Confederate monuments
in public areas must come
down! The definition of the
word monument is a statue,
building, or other structure
erected to commemorate a
famous or notable person or
event. I would like to pose
the question, do us citizens
of the United States want to
commemorate confederate
people who rebelled against
our union? I dont. Someone
like Robert E. Lee, the com-
mander of the Confederate
army who, like many others,
pact that the Hurricane may
have on communities, we
strongly support this request
and urge you to provide any
and all emergency protec-
tive measures available by a
major disaster declaration.
Although, in 2012, Represen-
tative John Culberson, was
the only Texas republican in
Congress to support the $50.7
billion relief effort after the
2012 storm.
The reason Cornyn and
Cruz opposed the Sandy aid
was because of the concerns
about additional spending.
Just because the senators did
not support the aid for San-
dy does not mean that every
person in the state of Texas
didnt support it either. Most
people during that time came
together to help support New
York and New Jersey.
I think in these difficult
times, we should come to-
gether. Cruz was only prepar-
ing for devastating storms,
which were appearing to be
fought in a war and risked
his life to protect the legal
destruction of millions of af-
rican peoples lives (slavery)
certainly doesnt deserve to
be celebrated by giving him a
monument. Besides, the Con-
federacy didnt even win! I
dont understand why some
people want to remember and
celebrate the losers of the war.
However, I dont believe
that we should erase the con-
federates from our history
completely. Confederates be-
long in a museum with infor-
mation on the things they did
and fought for without cele-
brating them in any way.
I also think that people

more frequent. Whatever the
case is, we should be help-
ing each other. What kind
of country would we be if
we didnt come together and
support each other during
difficult times? I see the iro-
ny in Cruz asking for sup-
port after refusing give any.
But the Sandy storm is in the
past. We should focus on the
catastrophic damages that are
affecting millions right now.
To me, all true Americans
will come together in times of
need.

with it. White supremacists,

are always fighting to try to

preserve our history. Some
people want to keep these
monuments just due to their
connection to white suprem-
acy and the hate of all other
cultures. People like our Pres-
ident Donald Trump say that
it is wrong to take down the
confederate monuments be-
cause that would be battering
U.S history. Statements like
that are not true because tak-
ing down confederate mon-
uments are not battering U.S
history, they are just not cel-
ebrating Confederate history
and that is what we should
want as americans.
In summary, confederate
monuments should be tak-
en down off our streets and
put in museums without any
commemoration whatsoev-
er or kept in private proper-
ty. Confederate ideology and
White-supremacy is com-
pletely anti-american and
should be condemned. This is
the United States not the Con-
federate States, that is simply
why Confederate monuments
should be taken down off our
public areas.

Texas asked for aid after Hur-
ricane Harvey hit Texas. Tex-
as then asked for aid despite
not even giving any for Hur-
ricane Sandy damage. New
Jersey, nor any state previ-
ously hit by Hurricane Sandy,
should aid Texas.
When Hurricane Harvey
hit, thousands of people were
evacuated and there are bil-
lions of dollars in damage.
At 900 miles wide, with 147
casualties, a storm surge of
12.65, and left 650,000 homes
destroyed or flooded, San-
dy was more traumatic and
damaging than Harvey, at 200
miles wide, with 50 casualties,
a storm surge of 7.4, and left
200,000 homes destroyed or
flooded. Devastating, but not
as much as Sandy was. All but
one representatives from Tex-
Mesa Classes: Should
Underclassman Be Al-
lowed?
More underclassman should be allowed to
join Mesa college classes

Currently, most Mesa col-
lege classes are only offered
for grades 11-12 with the ex-
ception of one, Math 150-151,
that sophomores can take. If
you are smart enough to not
only take but to pass a col-
lege course, you should be
allowed to take it no matter
your age. The prerequisite
for all of the Mesa courses
are that you pass the exam,
get a teacher/ counselor rec-
ommendation, get counselor
approval, or have a certain
grade in the class below. The
school will not even let the
sophomores could improve
underclassmen attempt to get
the requirements, and if they
do get in the class, the school
doesnt give them credit for
the course. Why should our
school deprive underclass-
men from receiving the best
possible education for them-
selves just because they are
younger? Letting underclass-
men take Mesa College cours-

as voted against giving aid for
Hurricane Sandy and all but
three are still current repre-
sentatives for Texas.
You could argue that the
people in Texas did not do
anything and that it was
purely the representatives
that ruled that against aid,
but the same representatives
are still in office and they are
elected by the Texas people.
Personally I would not have
wanted to help out after Har-
vey when almost every rep-
resentative for Texas voted
against giving us help after
many people lost everything
we have ever known. New
Jersey, however decided to be
the bigger person and helped
out Texas. Suddenly when
Texas needs help they be-
come humble, but when other
states are in distress they hide
away and refuse to help.

also has students struggling
to keep up, bored from the
easy content, not challeng-
ing themselves, and others
in-between. Freshmen and
their college application by
having a college course that
they exceeded in at a young-
er age than most high school
students take these types of
classes. If our high schools
goal is to get us prepared for
college, why not let us have
an early start?

Inside The Life Lego Layoffs
of Elon Musk

Elon Musk is a Canadian-
American entrepreneur who
has devoted his life to mini-
mizing the potential for hu-
man extinction and pushing
boundaries to develop a colo-
ny on Mars. Musk is the own-
er of Tesla and SpaceX and
has a unique design and out-
look on life that he attributes
to his success.
Musk was born to an electro-
mechanical engineer in South
Africa, and later moved to
Canada where he developed a
fascination with computation
and taught himself computer
programming at the age of 12.
Musk received a Bachelors in
Physics and Economics from
the University of Pennsyl-
vania in 1997. Later, Musk
enrolled in a PhD program
at Stanford studying applied
physics and material science.
However, after only two
days of the program, Musk
dropped out.
Now, Musk spends his time
studying for the next rocket
launch, rather than for the
next university exam. 80-90
hours per week are spent
on work and the manage-
ment of his companies. His
devotion to his endeavors
can be summed up in one of
his quotes: ...were going to
make it happen. As god as
my.witness, Im hell bent on
making it work. How does he
keep his mind running? Sleep
and caffeine. Musk reports
that his early days were spent
with numerous cups of coffee
and cans of Diet Coke-almost
8 a day. Although still partial-
ly reliant on caffeine, Musk
has begun to value sleep
more. In 2013 Musk report-
ed he got about 6 and a half
hours of sleep daily, going to
sleep after midnight and wak-
ing up before 8am.
Out of his 12 hours of dai-
ly work, 90% of the time is
devoted to Tesla and SpaceX
rather than his other invest-
ments and obligations. Musk
spends more time, however,
at Tesla in San Francisco than
at SpaceX in Los Angeles.
Where does relaxation
come in? It exists, Musk says,
but not in the same quantity
as his work. Musk spends at
least 4 days a week with his
kids and enjoys playing video
games and watching movies.
The one area he admittedly
lacks in, is his romantic life.
After a divorce in 2008 and a
separation shortly thereafter,
Musk admits that he might
have to find more time to de-
vote to dating.
Nonetheless, the success
of Tesla and SpaceX, reports
Musk, is a direct result of his
refusal to give up and his de-
votion to his work.
KFC Facial
Recognition

Would you like to just flash
a smile to pay for dinner? At
Kentucky Fried Chicken in
the Eastern city of
Hangzhou in China, Aliba-
bas Ant Financial has found
a way for customers to pay
through facial
recognition. Facial recogni-
tion is a computer application
that can verify a person. Ant
Financial has
recently launched a smile to
pay facial recognition ser-
vice. A 3-D camera scans the
customers face at a
self-serve screen. It is the first
store in the world to use facial
recognition to take payments.
In order to
pay at this KFC, the customer
would first order at the termi-
nal, which would then scan
his or her face.
Then, if it matches up with a
photo ID in the system, the
customer would simply put
their phone number
in and their order would be
placed and payed for. The goal
is to make it possible for peo-
ple to go out to
dinner without needing their
phones or wallet. According
to Joey Wat, Yum Chinas
president, their
efforts are also to attract the
young, tech savvy consum-
ers who are keen to embrace
new tastes and
innovations. Last year, Baidu,
a tech company, has also been
working on a facial recogni-
tion project
with KFC. They have attempt-
ed using facial recognition to
scan customers faces to try to
predict
someones preferred order
based on age, gender and
mood. It is very much possi-
ble that in a few years
facial recognition will be
available in multiple restau-
rants to make it easier to pay.

Lego is one of the most pop-
ular toy brands in the world.
On the outside, the brand
seems
to be doing very well, creat-
ing countless toys that have
sold very well in the past.
However, in
2004, Lego almost went bank-
rupt. After this upset, they re-
established themselves in the
toy
industry and business was
thriving for many years. Re-
cently, their sales numbers
have been
dropping. How will Lego re-
bound following this alarm-
ing loss? Their solution is to
let go of
1,400 of their employees.
Business is hard to come by
for Lego as a result of new
electronic
gadgets that seem to entertain
kids more and more today.
The company has tried other
methods
of creating profit by making
movies and featuring popular
characters in their toy sets.
For

was very popular among chil-
dren and earned lots of busi-

Hurricane Harvey has caused
a lot of destruction, taking
many lives and creating a
great rebuilding debt. These
damage costs will include
structures, plumbing, demoli-
tion, cleanup, irrigation, etc...
Many homeowners didnt
have any insurance to help
cover the cost to demolish
and rebuild homes. Grants
from the Federal Emergency
Management Agency have
been capped at 33,300. Most
people affected will receive
much less. Flood insurance
costs between $500 a year
and $2000 if the home is in
a floodplain. The insurance
program expires at the end
of September. Things such as
structures need to be fixed,
plumbing, individual demoli-
tion and rebuilding of homes.
The amount of labor required
to get Houston back on its
feet exceeds the amount of
workers available to complete
the work. The material need-
ed to rebuild would also be a
huge problem. An immense
amount of raw materials are
needed to create all the essen-
tial things needed in homes
such as plywood, drywall,
wood for framing, floor tiles,
and floor boards. Gas prices
are rising because for every
10 cents risen on the price of
gasoline equates to a $10 bil-
lion tax on consumers. After
hurricane Katrina, and su-
perstorm Sandy in 2012, the
Federal Flood Program is still
roughly $25 billion in debt.

than they will ever get back.
Since hurricane Irma has sub-
sided, the devastation in the
Caribbean Islands as well as
Florida has been substantial.
In Barbuda, 90 percent of the
homes and vehicles have been
destroyed. Across the Carib-
bean Islands, trees, cars, and
other debris were scattered all
throughout the streets. Many
power lines have fallen leav-
ing many residents without

people without clean water
and unable to keep clean.
Hurricane Irma is said to
have impacted 1.2 million
people since it struck. It was a
category five storm with 185
mph winds many trees were
ripped out of the ground,
and homes were destroyed
while all the debris was fly-
ing through the air. Streets
became flooded causing an
immense amount of damage.
It will cost from $50 billion
to $100 billion to clean up
and repair damages. Around
200,000 and 400,000 cars have
been damaged throughout
the storm. Due to the amount
of damage caused, insurance
will go up for victims of the
storm because of the cost it
will take to replace damaged
property. Many newer vehi-
cles that depend on technolo-
gy could be useless because of
the damage water does to the
electronics in newer vehicles.
Although many natural di-
sasters have impacted peo-
ple around the world, it has
brought people together to
help a cause greater than
themselves.

On September 3 rd , North
Korea conducted a nuclear
test which created a 6.3 earth-
quake near the
Punggye-re test site. This is
the countries sixth nuclear
test since 2006. Korea says
that they tested a
hydrogen bomb that could be
mounted on an ICBM. US De-
fense Secretary James Mattis
warned there
would be a huge response to
any threat given by Korea on
the US or any of their territo-
ries or allies.
On August 29, North Korea
launched a missile over Japan.
The missile reached 550km
high and flew
approximately 2500km
around the country of Japan
before it crashed in the Pacif-
ic. The United States,
obviously concerned with this
trial, says that all options are
on the table, referring on how
to deal with
Korea.
Our president, Donald Trump
stated in July that nuclear
threats, will be faced with
fire, fury, and frankly
power. But within hours
North Korea responded stat-
ing that they are considering
firing on U.S. territory
in Guam. This caused fear
in Americans that they had
developed missiles that can
reach Guam.
In 2017 North Korea has been
building up their number of
missiles and chemical weap-
ons creating the
question of what will they
do with them. The leader of
North Korea, Kim Jong Un,
states many times
that he has many missiles
that are able to reach main-
land U.S. This is a problem for
the U.S because we
do not have the greatest re-

Over the past few years, Lyft
and Uber have become two of
the most popular
transportation companies in
the world. Both companies
give around thirty to forty
million car
rides each month. Uber and
Lyft have made transporta-
tion very efficient for custom-
ers who
dont need or have to use
their own personal car. This
has posed a threat to car deal-
ership
businesses. People, especially
those who are living in urban
areas, are slowly favoring ride
sharing services. Uber and
Lyfts presidents believe that
in the next ten years, people
will only
use public transit as their
way to get around. Car com-
panies have been attempting
to change
their advertising strategies in
hopes of selling more vehi-
cles. Some of the bigger com-
panies,
like Ford, have introduced
rental programs. This allows
their customers to use the car
for a short
amount of time. Car compa-
nies have also started to re-
lease package deals claiming
that
customers may rent out their
vehicles and make a profit
from it. Along with that, cars
are also
becoming much more ad-
vanced in the field of tech-
nology. It is stated that soon
people will be
able to unlock their cars
through smartphones. Vehi-
cles have also started to pro-
vide internet
service to make smartphone
usage more efficient in the
car. These advances are sup-
posed to
lure more customers into
buying these new advanced
vehicles. Car companies ar-
ent the only
organizations that are trying
to up their game. Uber and
Lyft pose as each others big-

competition and are both
striving to become better and
more popular than the other.
This has
caused them to lower their
prices and has allowed cus-
tomers to choose what cate-

they want. The companies
are also trying to provide the
fastest service possible so that
customers are waiting less
than ten minutes for a ride.
As the competition grows
more and more
intense between Uber, Lyft,
and car dealerships, the deals
continue to get better for the

quite severe yet, it has been

that it will drastically damage

and Amazon
Merger

On Wednesday, August 23rd,
Whole Foods shareholders
approved its merger with
Amazon. The federal trade
commission gave the merger
its stamp of approval. Since,
Whole Foods prices have
dropped. Although, Whole
Foods prices are still not as
cheap as its competitors, but
since merging with Amazon,
theres already been a major
increase in sales. Traffic at
Whole Foods is the highest
its been in three years. A lot
of these crowds were defi-
nitely a result of all the hype
Whole Foods got from Ama-
zon. However, shoppers that
are buying groceries admit the
prices arent really less expen-
sive. Whole Foods grocery
prices have stayed 50 percent
higher than Walmarts. They
have claimed that their prod-
ucts are superior to those
sold by their competitors.
Amazon cut Whole Foods
prices, by 43% on their first
day of merging. Mark Baum,
a senior Vice President at the
Food Marketing Institute, an
Industry group says, Price
was the largest barrier to
Whole Foods customers, Am-
azon now has demonstrated
that it is willing to invest to
dominate the categories that
it decides to compete in. Food
retailers of all sizes need to
look really hard at their pric-
ing strategies, and maybe find
some funding sources to build
a war chest. Although these
price cuts wont affect much,
the fact that Amazon has
merged with Whole Foods
as caused their customers
to grow. A lot of people like
Amazon and use it for a lot
of things. People enjoy their
products so its no wonder

Chinas Ban What is
Bitcoin?

issues. Its air contamination

lead to smog, which threatens
the health of Chinas citizens.
In hopes of helping solve this
problem, China is consider-
ing banning all cars that are
fueled by diesel and gasoline.
This plan
would not be fully put into
action until 2030 at the earli-
est. Chinas government has
reached out
to car companies and pres-
sured them to produce more
electric cars. China currently
has the
worlds second largest vehicle
market. Only using electric
cars would have an enormous
effect
on the environment and it
would also help energy con-
servation. CEO of Tesla, one
of the
largest electric car companies
in the world, claims,Its the
goal of Tesla to accelerate the
advent
of sustainable transport, and
Id rather the other manufac-
turers would go fully electric
as soon
as possible...I dont think a lot
of people know this but Chi-
nas environmental policies
are way
ahead of the U.S. Their man-
date for renewable energy far
exceeds the U.S. In fact, the
coalition
of Chinese car manufacturers
just wrote the Chinese gov-
ernment to beg them to slow
down the
mandate, because its too
much. They need to make 8
percent electric vehicles in

electric power industry will

A bitcoin is a worldwide
cryptocurrency and digital
payment system, it is the first
digital currency, the system
works without a single ad-
ministrator. The coin is re-
ferred to as digital currency,
digital cash etc. Basically, bit-
coin is not the action of send-
ing money it is the thing sent.
Bitcoin was invented by a
programmer or programmers
that go by the name Satoshi
Nakamoto, the makers of the
coin are unknown. Bitcoin
is open-source; its design is
public, nobody owns or con-
trols Bitcoin and everyone
can take part. The coin soft-
ware was released in 2009, the
software is a direct exchange
there is no intermediary. All
the transaction are record-
ed in a public ledger called a
blockchain. As of February
2015, 10,000 merchants use
Bitcoin as payment. In August
of 2017, the Bitcoin split into
two different branches which
include - the classic Bitcoin
(BTC) and the Bitcoin Cash
(BCH). One bitcoin is equal
to 3803.14 US Dollar. Bitcoin
wallets keep a secret piece
of data called a private key,
which is used to sign transac-
tions, providing mathematical
proof that it has come from
the owner of the wallet. The
way the Bitcoin wallet works
is that, first, the person needs
to download the Bitcoin wal-
let. After you download the
Bitcoin wallet the system will
generate your first Bitcoin ad-
dress. Using that address you
can send and receive money
from your friends. The Bitcoin
address is similar to an email
address but the only differ-
ent thing is that you should
use the Bitcoin address once.

transaction, the transaction
is irreversible. Bitcoin can be
used to make purchases or
sell merchandise anonymous-
ly. Market places are websites
in which you can buy and or

Old Faces, New
Teams in CFB

As the college football sea-
son begins, many new coaches
will be under the microscope
as they lead their respectives
teams for the first time. Many
big name programs, like LSU,
Oregon, Texas, and Oklaho-
ma will be led by new names
as they will try to replicate
the programs recent success
in the past seasons. Other
schools with new head coach-
es include Cal, Baylor, and
South Florida.
With a few weeks of the
season already having passed,
we have seen these programs
beginning new eras under
their new coaches. Oregon
will look to Willie Taggart to
lead this team back to their
winning culture from the past
decade. Taggart was the head
coach at South Florida last
season, where he was a suc-
cessful 10-2. With Taggarts
departure, South Florida had
to look for a new coach. They
hired Charlie Strong, who
had an underwhelming past
three seasons as Texas head
coach. With Strong no longer
at Texas, they too had to find
a new coach; they hired Tom
Herman, who was the Hous-
ton head coach the past two
seasons. He had a very suc-
cessful 2015 season, leading

In the past two months the
United States has been hit
with two catastrophic hur-
ricanes. Hurricane Harvey
hit Houston, Texas late Au-
gust and Hurricane Irma hit
Florida early September. The
damage caused by the hurri-
canes has been horrific and
many people have donated
and helped with the relief
for these hurricanes. Twelve
thousand of Texas state na-
tional guard members have
been sent to assist with the
rescue effort. Experts have
said it could take years for
Houston to fully recover from
Hurricane Harvey. Hurricane
Irma is said to take a long time
to recover and is predicted to
be one of the costliest hurri-
canes the United States has
seen. These hurricanes have
put a huge damper on sports
these past months and will
continue to do so. The Tam-
pa Bay Buccaneers at Miami
Dolphins has been postponed
until November 19th.
The Miami Dolphins have
been relocated to Califor-
nia and will remain there for
their game against the Los
Angeles Chargers on Sunday,
September 17th. Since the
announcement of the Miami
Dolphins rescheduled game
against the Buccaneers has
caused the team to have to
play sixteen straight games

will lead a prolific Texas pro-
gram, as he will try to bring
them back to the dynasty they
were in the 2000s. Cal will be
led by new head coach Justin

hired Matt Rhule from Tem-

staff rather than search for a
new coach. Some of these in-
clude big time schools, like
LSU promoting defensive line
coach Ed Orgeron to head
coach, and Oklahoma pro-
moted offensive coordinator
Lincoln Riley to head coach
as well, as he will look to lead
them to the College Football
Playoff as one of the nations
top teams. Some big name
coaches moved schools as
well, as P.J. Fleck left Western
Michigan, where he almost
had an undefeated season last
season, to become the head
coach at Minnesota. Anoth-
er big name coach moving
is Lane Kiffin, who was Ala-
bamas offensive coordinator,
to become Florida Atlantics
head coach, as he will look to
put them on the map.

on because the location was
not affected by either hurri-
cane. The Braves announced
on Thursday that they would
be giving free tickets to Flor-
ida residents to any game in
the series. New York Yankees
against Tampa Bay Rays has
been moved to the Mets Citi
field in New York. The Florida
State League has canceled its
championship series sched-
uled for this weekend. All
these sports teams are hoping
for good seasons and fast re-
covery after these catastroph-
ic hurricanes.

Begins

With the end of September
approaching, the National
Football League season will
be a quarter of the way com-
plete. Many fans all over the
country have been spending
their Sundays watching their
favorite teams play, whether
at the game or on television.
With the first couple weeks of
the season completed, we have
seen every team in the league
play and have gathered in-
formation on how each team
has been playing so far. As a
surprise to many, the defend-
ing champion New England
Patriots opened their season
with a loss to the Kansas City
Chiefs. Some experts have
been thinking that this could
lead to the end of the Patriots
dynasty, but most still think
that the loss will just be more
motivation for the defending
champs to bounce back.

With the start of school, all
across the country fall school
sports have begun. From
volleyball, water polo, field
hockey, and many peoples
favorite, football, all have
started their seasons. Along
with high school sports, colle-
giate sports have also gotten
underway too, most notably
college football. Throughout
the college football season,
we will see numerous exciting
games weeklyfrom rivalries
to upsets to dramatic end-
ings, like the UCLA vs Texas
A&M game in opening week
this year, and of course all
those crazy high-stake games
as teams fight to get into the
College Football Playoff. With
conference play having just
started, we have already seen
some big games, including the
huge USC win over Stanford,
and some big nonconference
games, like Oklahoma vs
Ohio State, where Oklahoma
took the win.
As October begins, college
football fans will be eager to
in the opening week featured
the defending NFC champion
Atlanta Falcons, who escaped
with a win after a goal-line de-
fensive stand vs the Chicago
Bears. Another big game was
between the Seattle Seahawks
and the Green Bay Packers,
where the Packers came out
with a win. One game that
may have surprised was the
Los Angeles Rams command-
ing blowout win over the In-
dianapolis Colts. With Colts
quarterback Andrew Luck out
with an injury, the Rams de-
fense harassed backup Scott
Tolzien, along with the Rams
offense dominating the Colts
defense. Led by new head
coach Sean McVay, the Rams
began the season in a domi-
nating fashion.
With one Los Angeles team
winning, the other LA com-
petitor, the Los Angeles Char-
gers, did not start the season

season in Denver vs the Bron-
cos, the Chargers entered the

Record Breaking Sports

Baseball and football fans
have had a lot of record break-
ing excitement recently. On
September 4th, 2017, a Major
League Baseball world record
was tied by the Arizona Dia-
mondbacks, J.D. Martinez. In
a game against the L.A. Dodg-
ers, Martinez hit four home
runs in two innings. This
particular record has only
been accomplished eighteen
times in Major League Base-
ball history. joined the Arizo-
na Diamondbacks in July of
this year. When Martinez was
asked about when the fourth
hit went out, he stated Its
kind of one of those things
where youre kind of laughing
about it. Was I shocked? No.
Going up there and hitting it,
didnt really shock me. I was
just happy it went over. So
far, he has been the only play-
er on the entire team to have
tied the all time single-game
record. Ever since he joined
the team, J.D. Martinez has
hit a total of eighteen home
runs in forty games.The Dia-
mondbacks were figured to be

season, but have definitely
progressed considering they
beat the Dodgers with a dras-

Today

Over the years at La Jol-
la High School, we have had
many amazing teams led by
great athletes. From foot-
ball to basketball to baseball,
along with many more, we
have seen many exceptional
student-athletes come and go
through our Viking program.
Whereas some of these ath-
letes finished their careers
in their sport after graduat-
ing, having played through-
out their high school careers
and even before. Whereas
others have even continued
their careers after graduat-
ing, going on to play their
respective sports in college
or professionally. From our
most recent graduating class,
the Class of 2017, there were
many athletes that went on
to continue their athletic ca-
reers in college. One of La
Jollas most prolific basket-
ball players in the schools
history, Reed Farley, enrolled
at Harvard and will be play-
ing in his first season this fall.
He received many accolades
throughout his 4-year cam-
paign at La Jolla High, all 4
years as a member of the var-
sity team. Farley averaged 19
points per game in his senior
year, which was halted by an
injury, and finished his La Jol-
strategic plays, which one
of them involved catching a
26 yard pass. After the game

been a long, long off season. A
lot of thinking. A lot of reflec-
tion. This would become the
second largest comebacks in
all of college football history.
What seemed to appear like
a definite defeat for UCLA
turned into a miracle as the
Bruins took the win with an
astonishing score of forty five
to forty four. The initial re-
cord was made by Michigan
state in 2006, but the UCLA
Bruins were only one point
scarce from demolishing it.
Another upset occurred on
the same exact day in college
football when the underdog
team, Howard University,
played against UNLV. The
large majority of football fans
figured UNLV would be able
to take the win easily. Fans
claimed the game was suppos-
edly over before it had even
began to start. However,these
fans were completely shocked
when Howard University
won the game by three points.
(The score being forty three
to forty) Due to the fact that
most people placed their bets
on UNLV winning, this lead
to a gigantic upset in Vegas
lines. UNLV head coach,Tony
Sanchez reflected, Extremely
disappointing outcome, the
most frustrated I have ever
been since Ive been here. We
shot ourselves in the foot so
many times early on in that
first half. Our inability to play
well on our third downs and
our defense the entire game
was pretty evident...Thats
a game we fully except and
should win and we did not.

points per game. Two other
La Jolla High athletes from
the Class of 2017 continuing
their athletic careers in col-
lege are Nico Ivanov and John
Murphy, both of whom are
currently playing water polo
for Johns Hopkins University.
They began their season in
early September, helping lead
the Bluejays to an undefeated
4-0 record to start their colle-
giate careers. They both look
forward to continuing this
success throughout the sea-
son.
Onto the professional lev-
elit is pretty rare to have
two children, both whom are
professional athletes. Well La
Jollas own Mrs. Hutchins has
two sonsKyle and Bradley
Zimmer, who both graduated
from La Jolla, went on to be
first round picks in the Major
League Baseball draft. Kyle,
25, is currently a pitcher in
the Kansas City Royals mi-
nor league organization, and
Bradley, 24, is a center field-
er on the Cleveland Indians.
Bradley made his MLB debut
earlier this year and is having
a solid rookie season for the
World Series contender Indi-
ans. Unfortunately, he broke
his hand on September 10 and
will miss the remainder of the
season.

This year at La Jolla High
School, our fall sports teams
look very promising. There
are eight sports teams that
are competing in this years
fall sports season .
The girls fall sports teams
this season include, field
hockey, cross country, volley-
ball, golf, cheerleading, and
tennis. Our girls tennis team
is coming back this year as
defending D1 CIF champions.
Their team is lead by Alex
Kuo returns as the captain of
the team who is nationally
ranked 272 in the U.S for high
school girls tennis players.
Field hockey returns from an
11-12 record last year look-
ing to improve upon that. Mr.
Quesnell leads the girls golf
team this fall towards a hope-
ful CIF title. Cross Country
looks to run hard this year,
lead by captain Ines Robo and
with the addition of star Sier-

football team lost in the quar-
terfinals of D3 CIF to Bishops
in a rough game but has a
strong senior class this year
hoping to lead the team. Boys
cross country is led again this
year by senior captains Cole
Wolf, Casper Abbasi, Mitch
Morrison, and Raul Jackson.
With a new coach, the boys
have been pushed harder
then harder than ever to help
them improve their times.
Our fall teams have a lot of
potential and high hopes this

A - I grew up in North Caro-
lina and I attended Duke Uni-
versity in North Carolina, and
then transferred to Western
Michigan University to study
industrial design and then I
continued to Arizona State to
study art education.
Q - Why did you choose La
Jolla High School ?
A - Ive been teaching for
the past twenty years and for
the past ten years I taught art
at Clairemont High School.
Since Clairemont High School
downsized their art program,
and there was an opening at
La Jolla High School , I trans-
ferred to La Jolla High School.
Q - What they are you look-
ing forward to in this school
year ?
A - Throughout this school
year I hope to meet all my
students and find out who is
passionate about art and to
do some outside projects for
the next years Del Mar Fair. I
usually have an exhibit at the
fair.
Q - What do you hope the
students will accomplish this
year ?
A - In this year I would like
for the students to accomplish
a certain level of knowledge
for art and photography.
Q - Do you have any fun fact,
secret talents ect ?
A - Something that you may
not know about me that I can
play the harmonica, I also en-
joy juggling and hula hoop-
ing.

A - I am very happy to be at

to teach in Santa Ana where
I grew up for two years when
I earned my teaching creden-
tial at Chapman University,
and then I came down to San
Diego and I taught at a school
for Creative and Performing
Art for the district for eight
years. Most recently, I taught
at a private boarding school
in the Czech Republic for two
years and then I came to La
Jolla High School. Ive always
been math teacher.
Q - Why did you choose
LJHS ?
A - I choose LJHS because
the location is nice, I grew up
by the beach and I really like
the beach. I also really like the
weather and more important-
ly its a real solid community.
Ive been really impressed
with the student body in
these two weeks.
Q - What are you looking for-
ward to in this school year ?
A - I am looking forward to
coaching sports, more impor-
tantly soccer, because there
were no sports teams at the
school. I am also looking for-
ward to getting comfortable
with the new classroom, to
teach the students that math
and learning can be really
fun and entertaining, and to
enjoy interactive and student
centered lessons so I hope the
students can enjoy the class.
Q - What do you hope the
students will accomplish this
year ?
A - I hope all my students are
successful and for each stu-
dent success has a different
meaning.
Q - Do you have any fun fact,
secret talents ect ?
A - Its kinda interesting that
I ride my bicycle about ten
miles every morning to school
and something that I my stu-
dents dont know about me is
that I played professional soc-
cer while I was in the Czech
Republic.

la. Disneys new dream is to
leave Netflix and start their
own streaming platform. For
a long time one of the big-
gest streaming services in the
business has been Netflix. Its
known for many movies of
all types but soon, one wont
be offered anymore. After the
end of 2018 the beloved Dis-
ney movies will no longer be
offered on the service. This
includes all Disney and Pixar
movies. The Chief Executive
Officer of Disney said that
Netflixs relationship with
Disney is still strong, but they
wanted to start their own plat-
form to enter the streaming
business. Opening in 2019,
this new system will have all
the old and new Disney mov-
ies and will focus on making
new original series and mov-
ies. So binge on all the Disney
you want on Netflix until the
end of 2018, then be ready to
make the switch.

Mall Apart-
ment Breaks

If you love the mall and never
want to leave, then the Uni-
versity Town Center apart-
ments are for you. The new
UTC apartments are opening
in 2019. The building will be
23 stories high with all the
amenities pool, spa, gym with
exercise classes, library, office
space, underground parking
and an outdoor cooking and
grilling station. The apart-
ments are also going to have
a top floor lounge with ocean
view and a sports bar with a
pool hall on the third floor.
This huge two hundred mil-
lion dollar project is going
into the space that used to be
the parking lot for UTC. This
new complex is supposed to
be good for business at the
mall. There is not a current
asking price for the rent al-
though the surrounding ar-
eas average rent is two thou-
sand six hundred and fifty
one dollars This is the first of
many buildings Westfield is
doing all over the world.

Hurricane Harvey in Hous-
ton. Using the website You-
Caring, Watt has been able to
receive donations from hun-
dreds of thousands of com-
passionate people across the
country. He and his fans have
shared this cause on social
media and other news outlets,
leading to a plethora of dona-
tions and support.

Author speaks at local charity luncheon about novel inspiration

On September 17, 2017, Sir
Salman Rushdie, an acclaimed
novelist, addressed hundreds,
and promoted his new nov-
el, The Golden House, at
the 14th Annual Words Alive
Luncheon, an organization
that promotes literacy for un-
derprivileged youth.
Rushdie gained fame for
his 1981 novel, Midnights
Children, about Britains col-
onization of India. Rushdie
won the Booker Prize, and
the Booker of Bookers for this
work, being noted as one of
the best novels ever written.
However, Rushdie claimed
international fame and con-
troversy for his most famous
novel, The Satanic Verses,
in which he espoused his be-
liefs on the Islamic faith. The
title of the book, refers to a
sacred aspect of the Quran
that is said cannot be replicat-
ed. Thus, Rushdies decision
to republish these verses,
is figuratively considered a
crime to the Muslim people.
Additionally, Rushdie used
important characters in the
Quran in a derogatory fic-
tional manner, assigning re-
ligious names to prostitutes
and murders. After the pub-
lication of this novel, many
Muslim countries banned
this work, Rushdie received
numerous death threats, and
Rushdie was ordered by the
British government to be in
hiding for 10 years. None-
theless, Rushdies novels
are works of art and inspire
many.
At the luncheon, moderator,
Steve Lerer, led the discussion
with Rushdie, promoting in-
sightful and interesting ques-
tions about the premise and
inspiration of his new novel.
Rushdie noted that his major
inspiration for all of his work
is Charles Dickens, because
he imitates life in his sto-
ries; therefore, Rushdie said,
A novel is a mirror walking
down the road. His new nov-
el, The Golden House, paral-
lels current events and allows
them to play an integral role
in the novel.
The novels main theme is
the concept of how someone
can be both good and evil.
The novel follows a father
and his two sons who move
to a new apartment in New
York City. Similarly to Alfred
Hitchcocks film, Rear Win-
dow, all of the residents of
this apartment complex are
able to watch one another.
The novel is told from the per-
spective of an aspiring film-
maker, who watches his new
neighbors with intrigue.

San Diegos Hepatitis Outbreak

San Diego Countys Board of
Supervisors unanimously de-
clared a local health emergen-
cy on Friday, September 1st,
after a hepatitis A outbreak
killed 15 and hospitalized
hundreds.
Hepatitis A is a serious
disease that attacks the liver
and has often proved fatal. It
is found in human feces and
spreads through exposure to
unsanitary conditions, es-
pecially those related to not
thoroughly washing ones
hands after using the re-
stroom. However, most out-
breaks are associated with
sexual contact or specific
foods or objects contaminated
with the virus.
Since March of this year,
local epidemiologists have
noticed a pattern of infection
spreading quicker than nor-

On September 3rd, North Ko-
rea conducted a nuclear test
near the Punggye-re test site.
North Korea says that it tested
a hydrogen bomb that could be
mounted on an ICBM.The test,
North Koreas sixth in eleven
years, created an earthquake
with a 6.3 magnitude.
Earlier, on August 29, North
Korea launched a missile over
Japan. The missile reached
550 km in height and flew ap-
proximately 2500 km around
the country of Japan before it
crashed in the Pacific.
The United States, obvious-
ly concerned with these trials,
says that all options are on
the table with regards to how
to deal with Korea. US De-
fense Secretary Mattis warned
there would be a huge re-
sponse to any threat given by
Korea on the US or any of their
territories or allies.
Betsy DeVos on Campus Sexual

In a speech given at the Antonin
Scalia Law School in Virginia,
Secretary of Education Betsy
DeVos said that her depart-
ment would revisit the Obama
Administrations guidelines on
campus sexual assault, which
protected students under Ti-
tle IX and even threatened the
loss of fundings for schools that
didnt do enough to stop sexu-
al assault and harassment on
campus.
Title IX bans sex discrimi-
nations in educational insti-
tutions that receive federal
funding. The Obama Admin-
istration issued the Dear Col-
league Letter in 2011, which
gave instructions on how
schools should investigate and
arbitrate accusations of sexual
violence. The letter has become
a symbol for the support of sex-
ual assault victims to some, but
a symbol of the failure of due
process on campuses to others.
DeVos said she plans to replace
these guidelines in order to
protect both the sexually ha-
rassed and the accused. Due
process is the foundation of
any system of justice that seeks
a fair outcome, she said. Due

Trump stated in August that
nuclear threats, will be faced
with fire, fury, and frank-
ly power. But within hours
North Korea responded stating
that they are considering fir-
ing on U.S territory in Guam.
This caused fear in Americans
that they had developed mis-
siles that can reach Guam.
In 2017 North Korea has
been building up their num-
bers of missiles and chemical
weapons, raising the ques-
tion of what will they do with
them. The leader of North Ko-
rea, Kim Jong Un, has stated
many times that he has many
missiles that are able to reach
mainland U.S. This could be a
problem for the U.S, which has
a poor relationship with North
Korea. There is no definitive
reason for North Koreas sud-
den buildup of missiles and
nuclear tests but some say it is
to compete with the U.S.

university officials and experts
to come up with a new plan.
In response to her plan to re-
place the failed system, many
sexual assault survivors were
shocked, believing that the dis-
missal of the Obama Adminis-
trations guidelines will make it
harder for survivors to get re-
lief. Supporters of the previous
guidelines think of DeVos as
nothing more than a defender
of rapists, and find no reason to
trust her because she is part of
the Trump administration.
On the other side of the de-
bate, supporters of DeVos de-
cision think that the guidelines
put in place by the Obama ad-
ministration were too harsh on
accused rapists, and failed in
protecting due process rights
on campus. The guidelines
were unfair to the wrongly ac-
cused and accused these peo-
ple with little evidence, they
said. Being accused of rape
destroyed careers, and even
brought some close to taking
their own life, DeVos men-
tioned in her speech. We must
do better, because the current
approach isnt working, DeVos
said.

Since the outbreak in March,
19,000 have been vaccinated.
Of those vaccinations, 7,100
were administered to the at-
risk homeless population,
Wooten said.
On Friday morning, a pri-
vate company working with a
city contract began distribut-
ing hand-washing stations to
locations where the homeless
population typically reside.
Next, street cleaning crews
working for the sanitation
plan were to shoot high-pres-
sure water spiked with bleach
in efforts to remove feces,
blood, bodily fluids, from any
contaminated surface.
Free vaccines have been
issued for those without in-
surance at any county health

World War II Bomb Discovered in Frankfurt

In Frankfurt, Germany, almost
60,000 people were evacuated
when a British World War II
bomb was found. The bomb
was found in a construction
site and had to be deactivated
in order to declare it as safe.
Authorities recognized this
potentially dangerous situa-
tion and recommended that
anyone living in Frankfurt
evacuate as soon as possible.

The Human Rights Office
of the UN declared that the
crimes against the Rohing-
ya could amount to crimes
against humanity, and that it
regretted the Myanmar gov-
ernments failure to act upon
recommendations set out by
the UN, like lifting restric-
tions of the Rohingya.
Since August 25, at least
370,000 Rohingya Muslims
have fled into Bangladesh, and
thousands more are escap-
ing every day. Women have
been raped and hundreds are
thought to be dead. Other ac-
counts describe babies being
thrown into rivers and decap-
itations. Ultimately, the crisis
in Myanmar has resulted in
the death of hundreds of peo-
ple and the displacement of
thousands.
Election Annulled by Kenyas
Supreme Court

On Friday, September 1st,
Kenyas Supreme Court an-
nulled the presidential election
of August 8th, which reelected
President Uhuru Kenyatta,
on the grounds that the Inde-
pendent Electoral Boundaries
Commission (IEBC) did not
handle the election properly
and according to Kenyan law.
The new presidential election
is planned for October 17th,
2017.
Kenyattas opposition, Raila
Odinga, claimed that comput-
er systems of the IEBC were
hacked in order to provide
Kenyatta with an unfair ad-
vantage. According to Odin-
ga, official forms differed from
electronically recorded results
of the election. The Supreme
Court investigated Odingas
claim and substantiated it. A
technology expert for IBEC
was murdered 10 days prior
to the election. Odinga and his
lawyers claimed that approx-
imately seven million votes
went to Kenyatta that should
have been recorded in Odin-
gas favor.
The court stated that the
IEBC failed, neglected, or re-

and failed to explode before
plummeting into the ground.
The scale of the evacuation
was huge. People left their
homes and possessions and
relocated to other cities, or
to shelters. In addition, all
the hospitals and clinics were
evacuated in order to keep all
the patients safe.
The UN Secretary Gener-
al Antonio Guterres has said
that the attacks against the
Rohingya are completely un-
acceptable. The humanitar-
ian situation is catastrophic,
he said. The UN human rights
chief, Zeid Raad Al Hussein,
has called the violence a
textbook example of ethnic
cleansing.

Raad Al Hussein have only
added to the growing interna-
tional criticism of the military
actions in the Rakhine. The
Dalai Lama has also criticized
the military and Daw Aung
San Suu Kyi, the Nobel Peace
Prize winner and effective
leader of the country who has
yet to say anything about the
situation. Other Nobel
Peace Prize winners have
also criticized her silence, and
many people have protested

mission of results. The court
did not find any wrongdoing,
however, on the part of Presi-
dent Kenyatta.
After hearing the election
had been annulled, Odinga
stated, I am happy to be Ken-
yan todayit is a historic day
for the people of Africa. The
ruling marks the first time that
an African court has annulled
a presidential election with
irregularities. President Ken-
yatta respected the courts de-
cision and agreed to the new
election.
Odinga served as Kenyas
second prime minister from
2008-2013 and ran for Presi-
dent in 1997, 2007 and 2013,
losing to Kenyatta in 2013. The
candidate is a member of the
traditionally moderate to left
Orange Democratic Move-
ment. Kenyatta, on the other
hand, is a part of the Jubilee
Party of Kenya, which was
formed in September of 2016
through the merging of the
Jubilee Alliance Party with 10
other political parties.
Germany has encountered
this situation before, and took
educated steps to inform the
public and keep people safe.
German authorities acted
fast and remained calm as
they handled this daunting
task. This sort of discovery
is not uncommon in Germa-
ny. Many other unexploded
bombs have been found in the
country, being that it was a
major force in World War II.

The Rohingya Muslims
have always a minority in
the mostly Buddhist country
of Myanmar, and the govern-
ment does not even recognize
them as citizens. Myanmar
sees them as immigrants from
Bangladesh that came over
when the country was under
British rule. They were de-
scribed as one of the largest
stateless populations after a
census was released in 2014
and didnt count the Rohing-
ya as citizens.

Harry Potter Takes Broadway
The Hit Series Brings Magic to Life

Harry Potter series, its not
hard to see why the play
would be a big hit.
The two-part play Harry Pot-
ter and the Cursed Child is set
to come out on Broadway in
Spring of 2018 at the newly
renovated Lyric Theatre in
New York. Previews of the
play will start in March of
2018 and the official opening
is on April 22.
The play was very popular
when it premiered at the Place
Theatre in London in 2016,
where it continues to play
sold-out shows. The London
production won 22 awards,
including a record of nine Ol-
ivier Awards and became the
most awarded West End pro-
duction in history.

Season 7 the Scariest Yet?

Season 7 of the hit television
show, American Horror Sto-
ry, finally aired on September
5th. As many American Hor-
ror Story fans know, every
seasons story is based off of
a new theme, this ones being
Cult. Along with returning
cast mates, Sarah Paulson and
Evan Peters, the new season
features new, yet familiar
faces including actor Colton
Haynes from Teen Wolf and
actress Billie Lourd from
Star Wars: The Force Awak-
ens. The idea for this season
is definitely a new concept
because although all the pre-
vious seasons have caused
their audiences a fair share
of scares and screams, they
have been based off of small-
er and less relevant themes
such as covens and insane
asylums. Season 7, however,
hits a little closer to home as
their season premiere takes
place in Michigan and starts
off with a womans meltdown
and a mans uncontainable
excitement caused by the
outcome of this years presi-
dential election. Although it
isnt certain how the theme
of cults are tied in just yet, we
know that Trumps win is the
main cause of the chaos and

tival is a coveted event located
in La Jolla, California. It features
many local bands, breweries,
wineries, artists and more. It is
open to everyone, and there is no
cost for admission. This year will
mark the eighth art and wine fes-
tival held in La Jolla. During the
festival, there is a wide variety
of food offered. Also, there is a
silent auction where participants
can bid on a wide spread of activ-
