INTRODUCCIN
INTRODUCTION
ecuacin.
When a solid body is heated, for example, an electrical resistance: the surface of the
solid emits radiation whose wavelength is mainly comprised in the range of 0.1 to 10
microns. This radiation is often referred to as thermal radiation.
Quantum mechanics provides a quantitative description of the atomic and molecular
mechanisms by which radiation is produced, but such a study goes beyond the
scope of this analysis. However, it is possible to provide a qualitative description:
Radiation is the energy emitted by matter in the form of electromagnetic waves (or
photons) as a result of changes in the electronic configurations of atoms or
molecules.
Radiation is a volumetric phenomenon and all solids, liquids and gases emit, absorb
or transmit radiation to varying degrees. However, radiation is often regarded as a
surface phenomenon for solids that are opaque to thermal radiation, such as metals,
wood and rocks, since the radiation emitted by the interior regions of such a material
4
can never reach to the surface, and the radiation incident on that body is usually
absorbed by a few microns inwardly of said solids.
The various types of radiation are distinguished from each other only by the range
of wavelengths they comprise. In vacuum, all these forms of radiant energy are
displaced at the speed of light, C. Thus, the wavelength , which characterizes an
electromagnetic wave, is related to its frequency v by the equation.

Each material has its own emissivity, the following table contains different values of
emissivity for different materials.
The following image shows approximately the types of mechanisms responsible for
the various parts of the radiation spectrum.

10-8cm 0.1nm; 1 =1 micra =10-6m).
In general, both a and a surface depend on the temperature and the wavelength of
the radiation. Kirchhoff's law of radiation states that the emissivity and the
7
absorbability of a given surface at a given temperature and wavelength are the
same.
The reason at which a surface absorbs the radiation is determined from:
where incident incidente is the ratio at which radiation strikes the surface and? is the
absorbance of the surface
The difference between the ratios of the radiation emitted by the surface and the
absorbed radiation is the net transfer of heat by radiation. If the absorption ratio of
the radiation is greater than that of emission, the surface is said to be gaining energy
by radiation. Otherwise, it is said that the surface is losing energy by radiation.

mover a 200 mm.

procedemos a anotar resultados.
3. Connect and power the Armfield HT10X equipment, verify that the computer
and the equipment are properly connected.
4. Thermocouple number 1 is connected
10. The bar is now placed back to 400 mm from the radiation emitting plate, it is
expected that the temperature will stabilize and data will be taken.
11. Then the same procedure is performed but now at 600 mm, 800 and 1000mm,
we will now realize that temperatures are decreasing
12. At this time the HT10X is operated to move it to 11 V and redo the previous
measurements at 134, 200, 400, 600, 800, 1000 mm
13. We expect that at each change of distance the temperature will stabilize and
proceed to record results.

When comparing the data, it is observed that the values obtained theoretically of
heat by radiation are similar to the experimental values. The difference between
these are due to several factors, since for example to obtain a good result, the
experiment must be performed under controlled conditions, such as:
What to do in a dark room
Without people, completely empty
Controlled temperature and pressure conditions

To see if there is a direct correlation between the reading of the radiometer "R" and
the distance, the natural logarithm of "R" was plotted against the natural logarithm
of the distance between the radiometer and the disk.

Figura 4.

correcta.
It was possible to understand the phenomenon of thermal radiation, in addition to
knowing the law of Stefan-Boltzmann. At the same time the definition of emissivity
was explored, it is essential to be clear that it is a property of the surface of the
object, just as there are materials that conduct electricity well and others do not,
there are surfaces that emit thermal radiation better than others.
The experiment did not have the best conditions to be able to be carried out
efficiently, since there were no contracted conditions that ensured a good obtaining
of experimental data, because without these conditions it was observed that there
was a difference between the data obtained in the calculations with those acquired
experimentally, but since the two values are close, it can be concluded that the
practice was performed correctly.
