Example of Experimental Framework Questions.

(Paper 3 Section B)
Question on density of liquid and its pressure (F4: 3.2 Pressure in liquid)

Inference The liquid pressure depends on its density

Hypothesis When the density of a liquid increases, its pressure also increases
Aim To investigate the relationship between pressure of a liquid and its density
Variables Manipulated Variable: Density of liquid, (Measure by dissolving salt into
liquid)
Responding Variable: Pressure of liquid, L (Measure by the height
difference in the manometer)
Fixed Variable: Depth of liquid
Apparatus Thistle funnel, U-tube, manometer, container, rubber band, rubber sheet,
meter rule, retort stand, salt and water
Set Up
Diagram

Procedure 1. The apparatus is set up as shown in the diagram above

2. A container is filled with a liquid is dissolved with 20 g of salt, a
thistle funnel is attached to the manometer
3. The mouth of the thistle funnel is lowered vertically into the liquid
until a fixed depth, h=50.0 cm.
4. The height difference in the manometer, L is recorded
5. The experiment is repeated for dissolving salt of 40.0 g, 60.0 g, 80.0 g
and 100.0 g

Tabulation of Data obtained will be tabulated in a table as shown below.
