Experimental Conditions, Materials and Equipments

A researcher would like to conduct an experiment to answer the question that there
could be the difference between the analytical CPU time using SAS program and
the one using SPSS program. The analytical time will be printed and observed after
each analysis is accomplished. There are 2 versions available for the SAS program.
Those are SAS/Statistics module and SAS/Enterprise module. For the SPSS
program, there are also 2 versions. They are SPSS window 9.10 version and SPSS
window 10.1version. She has planned to set up the lab experiment at one of
computing centers at the Faculty of Commerce and Accountancy of Chulalongkorn
University. There is a problem of setting the experimental lab due to all computer
centers are reserved for students for several classes during the semester. However,
there is a computer room with 4 fully-equipped computers reserved for quest
lecturers. So, she has decided to get approval for using this room for experiment.
Another problem is that she can use the room only 2 time periods and this can be
used only on Wednesday and Thursday of January 2012. The first period is the
morning from 8.00-11.00 am and the second period from 1.00-4.00 pm. Also the
room will be closed on holidays, Saturday and Sunday. So, she has decided to
conduct the experiment in this month. The group of recent 4th year undergraduate
students majoring in Applied Statistics at the Faculty of Commerce and
Accountancy of Chulalongkorn University will be requested to participate in the
experiment. Among the students in this group, there is only gender-to-gender
variation. The other variations are experimentally negligible. With the available
conditions and experimental materials, the researcher decides to choose both
genders for the study. She has determined to use 64 students as volunteers with 32
female and 32 male students. In each period of experimentation, the 2 different sets
of sample data will be used and also there is a manual posted to help each student
running data analysis. Each set is used equally in each period. The response variable
will be the CPU analytical time which is printed after each analysis is finished. From
the conditions, and available materials and equipments, find out the possible
experimental designs or there should be more conditions, materials and equipments
to add on so that experimental designs could be possible. Then do the partition the
total variation and degree of freedom for all possible partitions for each of those
designs.
