Gold Radio Station

Show Information

The shows title is Golds 10 in a row and this show is played every day at various times. This show is when gold play
10 hits in a row without any commercials. The radio station is often presented by only one presenter every weekday
at 6am. This radio station is a nationally broadcasted programme and will be broadcasted daily, 24/7. The target
audience of this radio station is for 40-60 year olds based on the music that they play alone. The music is a specific
genre that would only appeal to this specific age range. The genre is classic hits which helped me to indicate the type
of audience and the demographic of the target audience too. Gold was created to appeal to an audience that was
underserviced by UK radio. Gold reaches 1.1 million listeners every week across three local areas. Gold listeners are
mature, knowledgeable and devoted to music, and they really cant get enough of what they hear. Golds audience
demands quality and they love humour and often they have lives that are as busy as the station is.

Presenter

The presenter of this show is mainly Tony Dibbin and he hosts everyday apart from Saturday. He hosts a programme
The More Music Breakfast Show every weekday from 6am. Tony Dibbin hosted his first every radio show at the age
of 9 and the radio show was named Junior Showtime. Tony loves to write and perform stand-up comedy which
helped with his one man show that he hosted in aid of Prostate Cancer UK. Tony Dibbin has appeared in the West
End in a special performance of Spam-A-Lot. Due to the idea of Tony liking stand-up comedy filling in a radio station
as a one man presenter most of the time its pretty easy because he has lots of lines to fill the air to eliminate
awkward silence. Tony has an interest in outer space when he isnt presenting the radio station programmes, he was
invited by NASA to visit Cape Canaveral to watch the space shuttle launch in 2002. The presenter uses a colloquial
style of language instead of being formal or using slang.

Running Order

The running order is exactly the same every day, the same structure is played every weekday. On weekends
however, the structure of the radio station is completely different on weekends because its a different presenter
broadcasting the radio station. There is only one day where the running order is different and that day is on Saturday
due to the change in presenter because each presenter has their own style of presenting.

Music

The music played on this radio station and that is broadcasted across the UK, is classic hits. This radio station playing
classic hits will appeal to its target audience. The ratio of text to speech is 9:1 because the programmes are mostly
nonstop so they are playing constantly and they are playing at least 10 songs at a time when playing nonstop. The
other 10% of content is adverts and contests. The radio station tries to focus on the music that the audience will
listen to and enjoy rather than music that they generally try to avoid.

the competitions and the prizes will appeal to their target audience because the competitions have the same
content as their music. The radio station doesnt participate in any interviews.

Adverts

The type of adverts played in this radio station are for products such as Car insurance, or tickets to a show. These
adverts tend to last for around 20 seconds. The adverts are specific due to the target audience of the radio station
which will be 40-60 year olds because of the genre of music.

Conclusion

This radio station clearly meets its goal to produce and broadcast music specifically to one genre and they havent
changed the genre since they first aired. This radio station is doing a good job at keeping their content reliable for
the target audience because their target audience may not want to listen to grime music for example as they prefer
classic hits as it is easier to understand. This radio station has presenters that are very experienced which means that
they know what they are doing when it comes to broadcasting a radio station. Tony Dibbin is the main presenter and
because Tony had hosted his first radio station at the age of 9 he should know how to meet and audiences need
when it comes to specific music to play and when to play them. Gold radio station has a jingle which will entice the
audience and they are able to identify the radio station just from the jingle which is what the purpose of a jingle is.
Gold radio station has been active for many years because it is a substation of capital meaning that it will have many
followers from capital to tune in and to experience what genre of music this is. Gold radio station has 1.1 million
listeners every week which adds up for a total of 8.8 million hours of listening time. Each listener will tune in for an
average of 7.9 hours every week. 78% of listeners are above the age of 45 and the station is listened to almost
equally by men and women (49% men, 51% women). This radio station is predominantly music because thats why
most of the audience tunes into the radio station, there are hints of talk in the radio station but that is for
competition reminders and also for advertisements.
