1.1 Presentation
The NX64 board is a synchronous serial link controller used to increase system network
capability. It allows routers to be connected to the system via high speed links (up to 1920
kbit/s).
The NX64 board configuration is described in the NX64 - Hardware configuration .
The NX64 board connection is described in the NX64 - External connections .

1.2 Environment

1.2.1 Functional environment

The NX64 board manages four X24/V11 interfaces. The four serial ports on the board are only
used in DCE mode.
Each port can be configured separately with the following rates available : 64, 128, 256, 384,
512, 1024, 1536 or 1920 kbit/s.
The NX64 board converts the data from the router at the continuous rate of Nx64 kbit/s into
time slots (32 x 64 kbit/s rate). The frame formed in this way, carried on the board by a IPCM
link, is compatible with the links used within the system (type 1 link).

The interface carries out electrical signal adaptation according to the RS422-A (V11)
recommendation.

1.3.2.2 Rate adapter

This is a TMS 320 C25 signal processor. It processes two X24/V11 ports simultaneously and
controls a buffer used as interface between the IPCM link and X24/V11 link. The data, in
continuous flow on X24/V11, are inserted on the IPCM 125s 32TS frame.
The 30 TS of the IPCM (30 channels at 64 kB/s) are used to carry the data from the X24/V11
link in maximum configuration (1920 kbit/s).
More generally, in the case of an X24/V11 link at N x 64 kB/s, the data are carried on the
board by N TS of IPCM.
1.3.2.3 Clock module
This generates the clocks (Nx64 KHz) used by the protocol controller and rate adapter. The
system clock (16 MHz) is extracted from the backplane.
1.3.2.4 Common part
The common part interfaces the NX64 board with the other system boards. For further details,
refer to the description of the common part (see Common Part - Common part ).
The processor handles the X24/V11 link high level protocol.
1.3.2.5 Power supply
From the -48 V, the converter generates +5 V and +12 V.

3.1 Connection
The NX64 board is plugged in an interface position on the ACT shelf.

Figure 3.1: Connection diagram

If the connection is :
- by cable : in this case, the connection to the router is carried out using a NX64 cable (see
NX64 X24/V11 cable - Hardware description ).
- by patch panel (VH cabinet only) : in this case, the connection is carried out using the
patch panel : 32-port, 2-wire module (see Patch Panel - 32 ports module - 32 ports module
).
