1. What is Ethernet?
What is Ethernet?
Ethernet is the most widespread LAN standard, of which 10BASE-T and
100BASE-TX are the mainstream. A star network, LAN 10BASE-T uses
a twist-pair cable (STP/UTP cable) and has a communication speed of
10Mbit/s and a cable with maximum length of 100 m. 100BASE-TX is
even faster than 100Mbit/s. 10BASE-T and 100BASE-TX are compatible
with a large amount of equipment and support mixed environment.
Even a Gigabit Ethernet, which uses optical fibre cable to realise
communication speed of 1Gbit/s, has appeared recently.

Default Gateway refers to a node that performs routing when transferring data from own LAN to

other LANs.
Keep Alive refers to a function that investigates regularly at a fixed interval whether the
Keep Alive connection is maintained normally with devices with which the connection has established while
using TCP communication.
TCP refers to a network protocol that establishes a connection to the other devices. TCP has
TCP capabilities to control responses and orders by using the sequence number and avoid duplicate
and missing data. Compared to UDP, it is more reliable protocol in general.

Typical applications include debugging via Ethernet and connecting to touch panel. In addition, uses for data acquisition
by connecting to a control PC and other applications using various servers such as FTP have been increasing lately.
In what follows, Ethernet applications employing KEYENCEs PLC KV-5000/3000 Series are explained.

Mail Function 2: Basic Email Configguration
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) is a protocol to send emails as well as exchanges emails
SMTP
between servers.
Post Office Protocol (POP) is a protocol to receive emails from servers where the emails are
POP
saved. First thing POP does when connecting to sever is user authentification.
Transmission method that is invented to prevent unauthorised use of SMTP server. It conducts
POP-Before-SMTP
user authentification with POP before sending emails by SMTP.

FA Etherrnet Easy Trouble Shootiing
When
n Ethernet is not working prooperly
Narrow down the causes of the troubles by using Ethernet ports pilot lamp
The below are ways to isolate trouble sources using pilot lamps that are used for checking the connection status.
When link lamp does not turn on, KV Series is not recognised as Ethernet equipment.
LINK
Check cables and communication equipment for errors.
2. ACT lamp does not turn on when transmitting the data from KV Series.
Errors in the transmission program
3. ACT lamp turns on when the data transmission from KV Series is in progress but no response is
returned.
Errors in the IP address of the client that is receiving the data.
Configuration errors of the clients IP address
Response processing errors on the clients side
CONFIGURABLE ITEMS
IP address, subnet mask, gateway, individual port number,
receive timeout, and keep alive
