Assist in VI students comprehension when braille
and other assistive technologies are unavailable.
Teachers should use this strategy when assistive
technology such as braille text. Whenever
content is unavailable in the specific form,
Teachers should plan for this strategy by
preparing the necessary recordings, device, or
volunteer.
1. Prepare for class by obtaining the
necessary device, volunteer, or
recordings.
2. When content is to be read, the teacher
can issue the device with the recordings,
or implement a reading partner to read
content at a pace the student is
comfortable with. This can be a friend or
a trusted student.
3. If a volunteer is reading with the student,
be sure to monitor occasionally to ensure
the students are not having difficulties.
4. Whenever there is content or discussion
that is not in text form, allow the student
to use a recording device to capture
dialogue and information for later
reference.
With the volunteer strategy, student scan be
checked on their comprehension through a
verbal assessment. Students can also use the
recording device to record responses when not at
school
