Oil spill update: More than 1.5 million feet of boom recovered
after Gulf oil spill
Oil spill update: More than 1.5 million feet of boom recovered after Gulf oil spill More than 1.5 million
feet, or 90% of the boom that had been deployed after the catastrophic Gulf oil spill have been
recovered. The boom has successfully been recovered in Florida, Alabama and Mississippi. It will be
decontaminated then saved for future use. The decision was made to remove the boom that had been
used to absorb massive amounts of surface oil since the oil is no longer visible atop the water. If new
oil is to surface, the boom could be deployed a second time. At this point in the recovery and...

Oil Spill Update: New techniques to be used in looking for oil below surface Unified Area Command
issued a press release today stating that new methods will be used to determine how much oil is below
the surface waters. The announcement comes after researchers from the University of South Florida
and the University of Georgia say that there are massive amounts of oil byproducts collected in plumes
underneath the ocean’s surface. The researchers’ reports contradict statements and findings by
government and BP officials saying that as much as 70% of the oil has dissipated. You may...

Toxic oil spill spreads on Gulf Coast ocean floor, says report
(video)
Toxic oil spill spreads on Gulf Coast ocean floor, says report (video) A new report by Florida
researchers says that the oil spill has mixed with chemical dispersants and has spread across the Gulf
Coast ocean floor. It has been estimated that more than 20 million gallons of oil spewed from the
broken Deepwater Horizon well that exploded on April 20, 2010. The report was issued by USF
researchers and indicates that volumes of oil on the ocean floor east of the Deepwater Horizon site have
spread and pose a threat to marine life. The oil is located approximately forty miles south of Panama...

Admiral Thad Allen speaks about cementing oil well from the top down and continuing process
Admiral Thad Allen spoke to the media regarding the static kill option and the success of cementing the
oil well from the top down. He described the process and said that the next step will be to complete the
job by sealing the well with cement from the bottom up. He said, “We believe that we have filled the
casing with cement and have secured that part of the well. The job before us now is to finish the relief
well, to enter the annulus from the bottom, assess its condition, and then seal the...

BP’s Doug Suttles says he would eat Gulf seafood and feed it to his family (video) One of BP’s top
executives said that not only would he eat Gulf seafood, but he would feed it to his family too. While
many fear that the unprecedented amount of chemical dispersants, such as Corexit, in the water has
turned it into a toxic soup, more water has been opened. Fears run high, but many in the seafood
industry give a different point of view. While acknowledging the amount of toxic chemicals (over 1
million gallons of Corexit) is unprecedented and unlike anything ever seen before; the...

Tropical Storm Bonnie NHC/NOAA Tropical Storm Bonnie affects oil spill cleanup and recovery, how
they will weather the storm Tropical Storm Bonnie has affected oil spill cleanup and recovery efforts
resulting in what may be a two-week delay in response. The oil well has been left unmanned as more
than 2,000 workers evacuated the area before reeling in feet of boom that may pose more harm left
during the storm than in place where they absorb oil. The oil well may be unattended for up to 48
hours, or until Tropical Storm Bonnie passes over the Gulf and no longer carries an immediate threat....
