Oil spill update: More than 1.5 million feet of boom recovered
after Gulf oil spill

Oil spill update: More than 1.5 million feet of boom recovered after Gulf oil spill More than 1.5 million
feet, or 90% of the boom that had been deployed after the catastrophic Gulf oil spill have been
recovered. The boom has successfully been recovered in Florida, Alabama and Mississippi. It will be
decontaminated then saved for future use. The decision was made to remove the boom that had been
used to absorb massive amounts of surface oil since the oil is no longer visible atop the water. If new
oil is to surface, the boom could be deployed a second time. At this point in the recovery and...

Oil Spill update: Plans to remove the blowout preventer continue

Oil Spill update: Plans to remove the blowout preventer continue Plans to remove the blow out

described the work that had been completed during the past 48 hours. He said that the capping stack
needed to be flushed due to hydrate buildup. They hydrates obstructed the addition of a camera and
pipe. Now that the capping stack and blowout preventer have been flushed plans to remove the blowout
preventer will proceed. There are two pieces of pipe that will be removed as they are currently

Oil spill update: Federal government to hold ‘dockside chats’ to ensure Gulf seafood safety On August
14, 2010 Coast Guard Rear Admiral Paul Zukunft, who serves as the federal on scene coordinator for
the BP oil spill response, examined shrimp for signs of oil spill exposure. Now that shrimping season is
officially underway the federal government has pledged to do everything possible to ensure the safety
of Gulf seafood. It was announced on August 25, 2010 that federal officials will hold eight dockside

Oil Spill Update: New techniques to be used in looking for oil

below surface

Oil Spill Update: New techniques to be used in looking for oil below surface Unified Area Command
issued a press release today stating that new methods will be used to determine how much oil is below
the surface waters. The announcement comes after researchers from the University of South Florida
and the University of Georgia say that there are massive amounts of oil byproducts collected in plumes
underneath the ocean’s surface. The researchers’ reports contradict statements and findings by
government and BP officials saying that as much as 70% of the oil has dissipated. You may...

Did the oil really dissipate, or is it sitting on the ocean floor?

(video)
Did the oil really dissipate or is it sitting on the ocean floor? (video) New reports suggest that the
surface, skimmable oil that is said to have dissipated may not have disappeared after all. According to
reports by the University of Georgia and studies from USF, some of the oil may be sitting on the ocean
floor. According to reports by the federal government, 74% of the oil that was on the surface is gone.
They say it has been burned off, evaporated, been skimmed, collected or otherwise captured. The
reports by UGA and USF challenge these findings and if proved true, can mean a whole new...

Toxic oil spill spreads on Gulf Coast ocean floor, says report
(video)
Toxic oil spill spreads on Gulf Coast ocean floor, says report (video) A new report by Florida
researchers says that the oil spill has mixed with chemical dispersants and has spread across the Gulf
Coast ocean floor. It has been estimated that more than 20 million gallons of oil spewed from the
broken Deepwater Horizon well that exploded on April 20, 2010. The report was issued by USF
researchers and indicates that volumes of oil on the ocean floor east of the Deepwater Horizon site have
spread and pose a threat to marine life. The oil is located approximately forty miles south of Panama...

Florida Fish and Wildlife announce changes to Sea Turtle relocation program (photos) The program is
called the Sea Turtle Late-Term Nest Collection and Hatchling Release Plan and focuses on relocating

these delicate creatures from the start. The height of the Gulf Coast oil spill coincided with nesting and
hatching times of sea turtles resulting in the Florida Fish and Wildlife, NOAA, and the U.S. Fish and

Admiral Thad Allen unsure if chemical dispersants used in Barataria Bay, Louisiana There is a lot of
fear regarding the use of chemical dispersants in the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill. EPA
whistleblower Hugh Kaufman alleged that BP used the dispersant to destroy evidence and reduce the
amount they would be fined. The surface oil has dissipated and many across the Gulf are fearful that
seafood has been tainted as a result of the dispersant and isn’t being properly tested for Corexit. During

BP’s Doug Suttles says he would eat Gulf seafood and feed it to his family (video) One of BP’s top

many fear that the unprecedented amount of chemical dispersants, such as Corexit, in the water has
turned it into a toxic soup, more water has been opened. Fears run high, but many in the seafood
industry give a different point of view. While acknowledging the amount of toxic chemicals (over 1

Oil disappears from Gulf’s surface, what about Corexit’s effects and the toxicity of the Gulf? Corexit
has been effective. BP and the federal government paved the way for an unprecedented use of Corexit
to be used in the Gulf of Mexico. It worked! Oil has disappeared from the Gulf’s surface, and though
oil still washes ashore in Louisiana; Florida saw more beachgoers than since the beginning of the oil

plumes? What will the long term effects of an unprecedented use of...
