One day, the giant heard a linnet

singing and understood that spring had

come to his garden.
Woods
When he looked out
of his window, he
was surprised.
The trees were in full bloom and birds
were flying about happily in the garden.

Woods
The trees were in bloom and the birds
were happy because the children were in
the garden. They had entered the garden
through a hole. On every tree there was
a child. Woods
But in one corner of the garden, it was
still winter. There was no child on the
tree in the corner. But there was a little
boy crying under that tree. He was so
small he could not climb that tree.

The giant went down to help the boy.

On seeing the giant, the other children
ran away in fear and winter returned.
But the little boy did not see the giant.
He was crying.
The giant lifted the little boy gently and
put him on the tree. At once, the tree
bloomed. The little boy was very happy.
He stopped crying, put his arms around
the giant and kissed
Woodshim.
The giant then took a big axe and
knocked down the wall. The children were
very happy.

Woods
Later, people from the village saw the
giant playing with the children in the
garden. The giant wanted to see the little
boy who had kissed him. But the children
didnt know who Woods
he was.
The giant was no longer selfish. He played
with the children in his garden everyday.

Woods
I have many beautiful flowers, he said;
but the children are the most beautiful
flowers of all.

Woods
The giant liked the children but he
missed the little boy who was his first
friend. He asked the other children about
him. But the children knew nothing about
Woods
the little boy or where he lived.
Years passed. The giant grew very old. He
could not play with the children any
more. So, he sat on an armchair and
watched the children play. He was happy
to see them play, but he always missed
Woods
his little friend.
One winter morning the
giant looked out of his
window and a saw a
beautiful sight. In the
farthest corner Woods
of the
garden, a tree was full of
white flowers. Its
branches were golden
and its fruits were
silver.
The giant saw the little boy, whom he
missed, standing under the tree. The
giant ran down and as he came near the
boy, his face changed.
The giant became very angry because
there was wounds on the childs hands
and feet.
He shouted,
Woods Tell me who
did this to you
and I shall kill
them with my
big sword.
Woods

Nay! answered the child; but these are

the wounds of Love. Who are you? asked
the giant and he knelt before the child. You
let me play in your garden. Now I will take
you to my garden, which is Paradise , said
the child.
Woods
The child was actually
Jesus who came to
take the giant to
Paradise.
When the children came home from
school in the afternoon, they found the
giant dead in the garden. He was covered
with white flowers.
