3PT01 - Activity 1: Properties of Matter

Objective: At the end of this activity, you should be able to identify physical & chemical properties of matter.

Materials:
block of wood matchstick weighing scale
beaker of water ruler
Procedure:
1. Measure the mass of the block of wood using the weighing scale. Record.
2. Measure the woods length, width & height. Record. Find its volume by multiplying the length, width & height. Record.
3. Read the volume of water in the beaker. Record.
4. Ignite the matchstick. Observe.
Note: Be careful in handling objects with fire. Strictly follow the supervision of your teacher.
5. Find the density of the wood by using the equation: Density = mass / volume
