Content

Thepurposeofthiscourseistogivestudents,engineersandscientistadeeperinsightintothe
theoryandmethodsforthedesignofprestressedconcretestructures.Thecourseintroducesthe
natureofprestressing,classificationofprestressedconstructionsandthematerialpropertieswhich
areofparticularinterestwithprestressing.Thedesignprinciplesusedforprestressedconcrete
structureswillbedescribedincludingthedesignagainstworkingstressesorserviceabilitylimit
statesandultimatelimitstates.Thecoursealsodiscusseslossofstresses,concretecomposite
structuresanddimensioningofstructuraldetails.Thecourseintroducestheuseofprecastelements
andtheirdesignprinciplesinFinishconstructionindustry.

Prerequisites

knowledge to design and analyse reinforced concrete structures and understanding of


bending theory of beams and plates

Assessment Methods and Criteria:

obligatoryteachingarevalidonlyforthelectureperiodunderconcern.
Obligatory Teaching and Home Exercises:
The student shall participate at least three of the four lectures marked
RT1/2, RT3, RT4 and RT 5
The approval of home exercises requires that the student gets 50% out of
the maximum available marks.
