I dont know whether the Madras Photographic Society has anything to do with the recently-publicised Chennai
Photo Biennales, the first last year and the next scheduled for 2018, but participant or not, it certainly deserves a
bow for being the countrys first photographic society. Its founder was an Army doctor, Alexander Hunter. The
Society was founded in 1857, shortly after Lord Canning arrived as Governor-General.

FUSIONS, an art show held at Dimples Art Gallery, offers a platform for artists young and old
to share their work : When artists create, they need a platform to present. In Chennai, Dimples Art
Gallery is now serving as a new platform to encourage artists young and old to share their work with the
world. The gallery, which was established only seven months ago, has just launched its fourth show
entitled FUSIONS. The show features the exclusive works of 12 artists from around the city, with the
pieces covering a wide range of themes and media.

Psychologist Rahul Ghoshs photographs explores urban solitude and loneliness


Solitude is a theme that runs through Rahul Ghoshs photographs. He had moved to the UK in 2008 for
education and in his spare time, having nothing else to do, began exploring the city with his camera in tow.
At that time, he didnt know about the nuances of street photography. He went about clicking images of
architecture and people. The exhibition Solo: Between Loneliness and Solitude, which opens at Goethe
Zentrum Hyderabad on October 12, displays images that reflect urban solitude.
