FRONT AIRBAG

The front airbag is deployed in a vehicle so as to save the passenger sitting in thedriving seat and
its adjacent seat during collision. The front airbags operate during certain frontal or front-angular
collisions, impacts, or decelerations, depending on the crash severity, angle, speed, and object
impacted.

Alone in the US, from 1987 to 2012, the frontal airbag has saved more than 40, 000 lives.
Whenever there is a moderate to severe crash, a signal is sent to the air bag system i.e. ECU to the
inflator within Airbag Control Module (Airbag control Module controls the airbag and generally
found under the driver's seat. It monitors the vehicle sensors continuously for any collision). An
igniter starts a chemical reaction that produces the gas, which inflate the airbag in less than 1/20 th
of a second. The front airbag is designed to work best in combination with seat belts, as some fatal
injuries can be occurring because of inflation of Airbag in front seats during collision therefore
airbags in many vehicles inflates only when the passenger wears a seatbelt.

Product Description
Driver Airbag The company manufactures driver airbag so that drivers head and body can be
protected from hitting with the steering wheel and other parts of the vehicle at
the time of collision.
Passenger Airbag The passenger airbag is mounted in the dashboard of the passenger side to save
the passenger sitting on the front sit at the time of collision. It reduces
approximately 20% fatalities and can be deployed in just 50 milliseconds.
Curtain Airbag This airbag is deployed in the headliner above the door. It saves the head of the
passenger at the time of side collision with any hard object.
Side Airbag The side air bag is deployed at back rests of the front seats or behind the door trim
and inflates when any side collision is sensed by the system. Company is now
providing three types of side airbags:
Thorax side airbags
Pelvis-Thorax
Door Mounted Inflatable Curtain
Knee Airbag The knee airbag is mounted below the steering wheel. In the case of driver side
and in passenger side, it is mounted below the glove box. It is mounted to protect
the knee, thigh, and hip at the time of collision.
Inflators Inflators are the systems, which fills the airbag cushion with gas during the
collision in milliseconds. The ompany uses single stage and dual stage technology
inflators and provide four types of inflators:

Stored gas airbag inflators
Initiators
