Writing a College Essay

Once in college, you soon realize that you will end up writing more essays than you did

while working through high school. College instructors utilize essay writing in almost all classes

as a way for students to express their own ideas and levels of knowledge. To be successful in

college essay writing you should follow a few simple steps; know what formatting is expected of

you, follow the rubric if provided, and support your essay with facts and research if applicable.

One formatting method that is commonly required for essay writing is MLA format, the

first official formatting method that I learned in school. When using MLA, you begin with 1

inch margins and the entire paper is double spaced. The font most commonly used is Times New

Roman in 12 point. Each page has a header with the Authors last name followed by the page

number, and the first page includes a more complete heading that can vary in what information it

provides, but for example, this short essay requires the inclusion of the authors name,

instructors name, the course, and the date all on their each line. These exemplify the basics of

MLA.

Hello Parents!

You may have heard from your student that we have been discussing our class
Valentines Day party. As a class we have decided that we would like to create
Valentine boxes that the students can place on their desk for Valentines Day
where the students can hand out their Valentines cards to their classmates.

The following supplies will be needed to create the boxes:

Shoe boxes/tissue boxes/other misc. boxes of similar size.

Any craft pens, scissors, paper that can be used and shared among the
class

Any items that you have at home that your student can use and bring to class
are welcomed. I would like to gather the supplies on Monday 2/12, to ensure
we have everything we need to create them on 2/13.

Please contact me if you have any questions.
