The College will observe the following steps in the undergraduate thesis completion of students:

a. Must be enrolled in HS 198- Methods of Research during its course offering.

b. An initial output manuscript for the thesis must be given before the end of the semester. This will
comprise the Title Defense and Design Hearing or Thesis Proposal (Chapters 1, 2 & 3).

c. Grouping for students will be 2 persons and subject to voluntary choice of students for their adviser.

d. It is recommended that the number of groups per semester will be the determining factor as to the
number of advisory of CON active Faculty members (those with lecturer status, study leave, sabbatical leave opt not
have advisor ship).

Note: For this SY 2016-2017 summer term, a total of 108 students are enrolled and divided to 24 Faculty will
constitute a maximum of 3 advisory groups per faculty. Ratio 1:3 (maximum)

e. Students will be given a research checklist in order to track their thesis progress, as well as guiding them
of the research protocol. This will be kept by the research coordinator for compliance and reference. Please see the
check list format below. Attachment 1: CON Research Check list for students.

f. Formats duly agreed and approved by the CON Faculty and College of Nursing Research Ethics
Committee (CREC) will be formally used. There will be a separate format for Experimental, Quantitative and
Qualitative approach in research. Attachment 2: Manuscript Formats.

g. A formal letter will be given to the would-be adviser and duly noted by the research coordinator. The
adviser will then sign as he/ she will conform or agree to the task at hand. Upon signing the agreement to advice, the
adviser has the sole responsibility in guiding and correcting the advisees manuscript to include but not limited to
formatting, grammar-check (initial proof-reading), content check (verification against plagiarism) and procedural
protocol. Final thesis editing will be done after the Final Research Defense with acknowledgement from editors
from the College of Arts and Social Sciences (Major in English). Please see Attachment 3- Letter of Acceptance.

h. A co-adviser is warranted if interdisciplinary approach is recommended for the research endeavor. The
students will inform their CON Adviser of their preferred Co-Adviser. Again, a letter of acceptance will be given to
the Co-Adviser as well as two (2) panel members from the groups choosing.

i. The student must refer to their adviser, research coordinator and Dean for any decision-making like data
gathering procedures and immersion protocol. Keeping in mind ethical and safety protocol that will always
safeguard the welfare of the students at all times.

j. Statistician and editor of the manuscript will be subjected upon the approval by the adviser and research
coordinator and the duly approved fees will be determined per college and institute protocol. The institute fee for
adviser is P500.00 and panel P250.00 payable to the institute cashier prior to final thesis defense. All payments will
be coursed through the Institute Cashier. No additional fees should be given to the adviser other than what has been
stipulated hereof.

However, the College will make arrangements to the College of Science and Mathematics for the
recommended statistician with requested standard fee, alongside editors from CASS. The above experts will be 2
given an acceptance letter referring to the specific task they will be requested by the CON students.

k. The Librarians role is to facilitate in related literature and studies data gathering and checking for titles
(from research archive outputs from previous students). The Librarian will not be involved in the checking and
critiquing of research outputs from students, that is the role of the advisers.

l. Research outputs must relate to nursing application and nursing education as recommended and referred
from International, National, Regional and College Nursing Research Agenda.

m. Strict guidance and reference should be followed regarding ethical standards in both animal and human
subject and must be given ethical clearance from the members of CREC and IREC prior to data gathering.

n. Abstract must be one page only with 250 words including keywords using IMRaD (Introduction,
Methods, Results and Discussion format in abstract making. Text alignment-Full justified, Font size- 10.

Pagination - Upper right side corner (No pagination on chapter pages)
Space - Double
Text Alignment- Justified
Style- Normal
Font Size - 12 (body of the text)
Font Type- Times New Roman
Titles and Sub-headings-Bold
Verb Tense - Future Tense (Proposal Paper) Past tense is usually appropriate for the literature review
experimental design, and procedure; Present Tense to describe and discuss results or
findings i.e. tables, illustrations (Final Paper)
Pronouns Third Person (First Person may be used if it is Phenomenological or
Ethnographic)
Page Content- No hanging pages. No one sentence paragraph writing. Provide three to five introductory
lines in Chapters II, III, IV, and V
