D65EX-15E0 vs. D6TXL Test Results
The D65EX was put against the D6T XL in various tests. Below are the results and explanations that can
help you sell against the D6T. The D6T is the direct replacement for the D6R Series III.

Main differences from D6R Series III are:

1. Two pump hydraulic system. 1 pump for steering and 1 pump for work equipment.
2. Multi-Velocity Program (MVP) - provides operator with 2 additional speed ranges for a total of 5
speed ranges. The additional two speeds (one between 1st and 2nd gear and the other between 2nd
and 3rd gear) use the transmission gearing of the next higher gear but reduce the speed by
controlling engine power in those gears.

Production Test - Slot Dozing
D65 fuel consumption per hour is 1% better than D6T - 1,500 hours, $3.00 per gallon = $450 savings!
D65 production per hour is 4% larger than D6T. The D65 carries more material with each pass and
out produces the faster D6T.
D65 push speed is 10% slower due to a wider blade and a larger blade load.

Machine Speed

2.0F speed setting uses 2.5 gear and is electronically controlled by de-rating the engine.
While operating in 2.0F, once the load exceeds ~15,000lbs (point A in graph) the engine is no longer de-
rated - at which point the machine will follow the 2.5F drawbar pull curve.

3.0F speed setting uses 3.5F gear and is

electronically controlled by de-rating the
engine.
While operating in 3.0F, once the load
exceeds ~11,000lbs (point B in graph) the
engine is no longer de-rated - at which point
the machine will follow the 3.5F drawbar
pull curve.
A B
The new speeds (2.0F and 3.0F) are only
operative under light drawbar loads and will
default back to the higher gear speed under
mid to heavy dozing loads.

Komatsu has this same feature on the

D155AX-6 in F/R 3L.

Engine Recovery

allowed it to pass the D65 after 16ft (5m). 8.0 D65EX-15

Demo Tips

Avoid comparing sharp turning speeds while dozing. How much of an impact does the customer
really see from the tighter turning radius for their application?
Promote fuel savings l/h during spreading and grading operations while providing equal or nearly
equal cycle times.
Promote head to head productivity comparisons only if you can accurately measure the material and
do not be influenced by visual appearances.
Should have dozing dig distance of at least 66ft (20m) with a pile up area of 33ft (10m)
Avoid short cycles. The longer the time, the more material the D65 will move over the D6T

During demos it is critical to measure torque converter stall speed to verify competitive machine is set to
factory specifications.
D6T stall speed 1680 rpm.
D65 - 15E0 stall speed. 1670 - 1870 rpm.
