Lanzarote Island
Lanzarote, a Spanish island, is the easternmost of the Canary Islands, in the Atlantic Ocean, approximately 125 km off the
coast of Africa and 1,000 km from the Iberian Peninsula. Covering 845.9 km, it stands as the fourth largest of the islands.
The first recorded name for the island, given by Angelino Dulcert, was Insula de Lanzarotus Marocelus, after the Genoese
navigator Lancelotto Malocello, from which the modern name
name is derived. The island's name in the native language was
Titerro(y)gatra, which may mean "the red mountains

Canary Islands ____________________________________________________
History
In the 1930s a need for an aerodrome on the island became evident when connections were required with the other islands
and the mainland, aas well as a refueling point for aircraft. Subsequently an airfield was built at Llanos de Gaucimeta. The
first aircraft to land at the airport was a Junkers JU52 EC-DAM
EC DAM on the 24 July 1941. Following this the Spanish
Spa Air Force saw
a need for a permanent aerodrome for the interests of defence. This was constructed in Arrecife. In 1946 the airport
provisionally accepted civil traffic. Improvements were carried out to the existing facilities, with a runway extension and
additional ramp space provided. A new passenger terminal was constructed along with a control centre and on 3 March
1970 International and Domestic flights began using the airport. An extremely important centrepiece of the Gaucimeta
terminal was the mural ral created by Caesar Manrique entitled Lanzarote. The growing use of the airport called for the need
of improved facilities.

DME, ILS and VOR facilities were installed for Runway 03/21 along with additional holding points. New Runway lighting and
a fire station were also commissioned. In 1999 the existing passenger terminal opened with a capacity of 6 million
passengers per annum. Since then the original Arrecife passenger terminal has been revamped and is now used as an inter
island terminal by Binter Canarias.

EL Hierro Airport
HI) the airport of El Hierro, located in the municipality of Valverde, has
EL Hierro Airport (IATA: ACE, ICAO: GCHI
changed life on the island, improving communications with the rest of the archipelago and paving the way to a
new type of tourism.
Air traffic is domestic, with the main origin/destination of flights being Tenerife Norte Airport and, to a lesser
extent, the airports of Gran Canaria and La Palma.
In 2005, thee airport handled 157,945 passengers, 4,300 operations and 174 tonnes of cargo.
History
The first aeronautical event on the island of El Hierro occurred on 12 December 1955 when a helicopter flew to
the island, in what was also the first search and rescue
rescue operation in the Canary Islands, to airlift a sick person off
the island.
Studies for the localization of an airport began in 1962. Due to the complicated relief of the island, the options
were limited and in the end an area on the coast was chosen, known
known as Llano de los Cangrejos, situated in the
northeast of the island, close to its capital, Valverde.

In 1990 a new control tower was built and the passenger terminal renovated. During 1991 and 1992 the runway
was extended. Finally, the current passenger terminal was built.

La Gomera GCGM
La Gomera , the small, green, mountainous island is a paradise for hikers with its rugged ravines, palm tree
groves and its magical laurel forest. La Gomera and El Hierro the two smallest islands of the archipelago and
not as opened up to tourism as the bigger islands. Because of that, they could maintain a lot if their original
charm. La Gomera surprises the visitor with a variety of natural beauty and spectacles: picturesque artificial
lakes, waterfalls at the end of a hiked through ravine, sheer rock landscapes with cactus showing off of orange
fruits or lovely valleys rich in water were fig trees grow like in a sub tropic natural garden. But the most
noticeable thing are the more than 100.000 palm trees that grow in La Gomera and dominate the landscape.
Gomera combines the most contrasting
contrasting climate zones in a very small area. The green and rain rich north, the
damp and foggy high lands and the dry south. The richer north of the island with its old churches, attractive
mansions, exhibitions of traditional art and handiwork and its island museum
museum is the more interesting part for
one who is interested in culture. One should also participate in a wine tasting and visit the old Gofio-mill.
Gofio The
charm of the famous Valle Gran Rey (Valley of the Great King) originates in the mixture of contrasting
contrast people.
Here, there are hippies living in caves, dropouts who founded their own business and esoterics. The most
beautiful sun sets one can experience at the slightly remote beach Playa del Ingles with its rugged rock
landscape.
