Managing Transitions in the Classroom

Procedure:

Table 2: Discuss the concept of managing transitions in the classroom. Observe and record
different transition strategies and record these in the table below.

Count from 1 to 3 The teacher starts to count
from 1 to 3 if there is noise
or if she wants them to stop
doing something.
Give me five The teacher uses this
transition if the children are
not following her and if they
are busy with doing an
activity.
I found it successful
because all the students
applied it.
It wasnt that much success
because some children
were applying it and the
most of children weren't.
I think they need to practice
this transition. If I were the
teacher I will make it in a
unique way. For example, I
will say give me five and I
will stay quiet for 2 minutes
to observe the children
behavior and grab their
attention.

Questions to reflect upon:

1. Why do you think transitions are important? It's important when the teacher wants her
students to end one activity and move to another, also it's important to manage the students.
2. How do they help children? It helps children to know what they should do.
3. How do they help the teacher? It helps the teacher to manage the classroom and follow the
lesson plan that she put.
