Re: Usability Report of Test Subject One, Two & Three

Date: April 26, 2015

Attachments: Usability Documents for Each Test Subject

The following is an overview of test subject 1 using our groups instructions to log in and navigate
around the Pre-Medical Web Suite. First there is a brief introduction of our subject and why he was
chosen to perform the usability testing for our web suite. It is then followed by the setting of the testing,
the methodology, results, recommendations and our conclusions.

Introduction of Test Subject 1

Our test subject was a male in his mid to late fifties. He is currently a professor and is not very
knowledgeable of the web or websites. He was chosen to conduct usability testing due to being a faculty
member of the Pre-Medical Sciences Club. Also, he is in the older region of our other test subjects and
isnt as familiar with the internet. This was done to ensure that we reached all levels of viewers for the
website and twitter page.

Setting

The usability testing was held at the test subjects office in Hartline on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at
4:30 PM.

Recording Responsibilities

Kevin Cope and Tori Welliver were responsible for the usability testing of test subject 1. Tori
handled the recording and timing of the testing from start to finish, while Kevin documented the
observations.
Visual Observations

The usability testing was video recorded to use in making revisions based on the
recommendations that the test subject suggested. The test subject was rather quiet during the
testing and only said something when he needed assistance. The documentation of the testing
consisted mostly of what the test subject suggested that needed to be improved or changed.

Timing

Recording the timing of the testing is important to time the process of how long accessing and
navigating the web pages takes. The time for test subject 1 to login in and browse the website
and twitter page took approximately 15 minutes. This time will be used as a baseline for the rest
of the test subjects through the usability testing.

Methodology

The test subject was contacted a week before testing to see if he would be interested in testing our
project. Once he agreed to participate we then set up a date and time that would work best for him.
Before the testing the subject agreed to participate in the testing and signed a release form. The test
subject was given the username and password for each component of the web suite and then instructed
to log in and browse the sites. At this point in the testing it was clear that our test subject was not very
experienced with this technology. Documentation and timing of the testing began as soon as he began
to sign into the website. After the testing was completed, the test subject was asked to fill out a posttest
questionnaire about how efficient the website was and any suggestions he may have.

Results

During the testing, our subject struggled to sign in on both the website and onto twitter. It took him
multiple tries to successfully log in. The test subject noted that the website was put together nicely and
was easy to navigate. When he began to browse the twitter page he stated that he has never used this
site before and wasnt sure what to do. Kevin explained that you can follow certain pages that interest
you and they provide information on a news feed. He then began to scroll through the page and said
that it could be useful to keep the group members updated. He also added that it would be beneficial to
follow pages that relate to the MCAT exam.

Recommendations
After considering, we decided to make a few small changes and to add a few small things. The first thing
we addressed was adding more MCAT links and information. This was what test subject number one
emphasized that needed to be added to the website. Another thing that he suggested to add to the
website was to include more information about community service. We decided to add a link to the
community service page of Bloomsburg so that if students are interested in volunteering they could
easily access the page. His final recommendation was to add more information onto the website. We
then explained that we were just creating the website and that the student president of the club would
add more things to the website.

Conclusion

Test subject 1 being in his late fifties helped us to realize that it would be more challenging for older
clients to access and navigate the websites. Also, we realized that we need to create more links for
MCAT information and links for volunteer opportunities. What his main desire to see on this website is
more information about the MCAT exam. Hearing his recommendations, together as a team we decided
to add a link to access more information about the MCAT exam. Test subject 1 was very useful in our
usability testing, this allowed us to see the struggles that the older generation may face when trying to
navigate our web site that we created.

Introduction of Test Subject 2

Our test subject was a senior male Pre Physicians Assistant major. Before testing the web suite, he did
not know much about the clubs website, but said he would like to learn more about graduate schools
and their expectations and maybe some advice from alumni or students who have recently finished their
Pre-PA degree.

Setting

The usability testing was held in Hartline Science Center on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at 4:30 PM.

Recording Responsibilities

Each group member was assigned to a task for usability testing. Janet Sanderson handled the
video recording of the test subject, while Ozlem Yilmaz and Deondra Taylor documented the
observations. The usability test took approximately 15-20 minutes for each test subject.
Visual Observations

The usability testing was video recorded which was used in making revisions based on the
recommendations that the test subject suggested. The documentation of the testing consisted
mostly of what the test subject suggested that needed to be improved or changed.

Timing

Recording the timing of the testing is important to time the process of how long accessing and
navigating the web pages takes. The time for test subject 2 to login in and browse the website
and twitter page took approximately 15 minutes. This time was universal across all three test
subjects.

Methodology

Our clients who were participated to our usability test had been asked during creation of each personas
if they would like to add their opinions by answering the questions which was created after we had a
websuit, and only three of the clients were able to participate out of five because other two clients
could not have time for us due to their class work and their busy schedule for the following week that
we had our usability testing documentation ready for. As a result, all group members distributed the
usability test documentation among them and met with Dr. Joseph Ardizzi at Hartline room G27 at 4:30
pm, student client Chris Bastardi at Hartline lobby at 4:30, and lastly another student client Diona Brown
at Columbia residence Hall at 7:00pm. We all have recorded the clients who named above, made sure
they were comfortable with answering questions, and before after everything has been watched we
requested to sign and answer the questions that were given.

Results

Our results were totally helpful for our final documentations and complement of the websuit. We had

compliments for the design and navigation of the website, however, we also had to add more detailed

information for the pre-medical students regarding to their specialize exam MCAT. Hence, we had had a

chance to add more MCAT information to the website before we present to the class.
Recommendations

Test subject 2 did not offer any suggestions.

Conclusion

Test subject 2 was a relevant subject because of the fact that he is a senior Pre Physicians Assistant
major and plans to go to PA school. However, he did not offer any suggestions for the improvement of
the website.

Introduction of Test Subject 3

Our test subject is a female sophomore Nursing major. She wants to go to graduate school and become
a Nurse Practitioner. From the website she said she would like to gather information about current
events and things that are relevant to health care as well as information about MCAT preparation.
