[Multisensory Stimulation in the Snoezelen room: Concept and Fields of
Application]
resumen
summary
The Snoezelen concept is presented and defined; it is a way of interven-
tion to improve the quality of life of people. It provides, in specially
designed environments, the chance that the person has a space and a time
of wellness, relaxation and contact with the environment. Many scientific
papers analyze how this intervention is being implemented in different
groups: people with intellectual disabilities, people with dementia and
Alzheimers, people with mental illness, people with high stress levels, and
many other cases. The results of these investigations show, among others,
effects such as increased levels of relaxation, reduced level of disruptive behav-
iour, increased comfort level, etc. This type of intervention is already known in
Spain, but at the moment is focused in groups of people with high dependency
levels. It is important to know that there are different options to work in these
spaces with groups other than those mentioned.
