Criterion C: Applying and performing

At the end of year 3, students should be able to:
i. demonstrate and apply a range of skills and techniques
ii. demonstrate and apply a range of strategies and movement concepts
iii. outline and apply information to perform effectively.

0 The student does not reach a standard described by any of the descriptors below.

1-2 The student:


i. recalls and applies gymnastics skills and techniques with limited success

ii. recalls and applies strategies and movement concepts with limited success by
attempting to show continuous movement with transitions between skills.

iii. recalls and apply information to perform.

3-4 The student:


i. demonstrates and applies skills and techniques with limited success

ii. demonstrates and applies strategies and movement concepts with limited success.
Attempting to show a continuous routine with transitions between skills.

iii. identifies and apply information to perform. Identifies which skills flow together in
the performance.

5-6 The student:


i. demonstrates and applies skills and techniques a combination of advanced skills
and basic skills showing good technique.

ii. demonstrates and applies strategies and movement concepts by combining


advanced skills and basic skills and showing a continuous routine with transitions
between skills.

iii. applies information to perform effectively.

7-8 The student:


i. demonstrates and applies a range of skills and techniques showing creativity,
precise performance, and including a series advanced skills.

ii. demonstrates and applies a range of strategies and movement concepts showing a
continuous memorized routine with smooth transitions between skills.

iii. outlines and applies information to perform effectively by identifying advanced skills
that create flow in a routine, and performing those skills continuously.

Criterion C must be assessed in performance/playing situations.


A students ability to recall and apply skills and techniques effectively could include: accuracy, efficiency,
control, coordination, timing, fluency, speed and power.
A students ability to recall and apply strategies and movement concepts effectively could include: the use of
space, force and flow of movement and adaptation to various situations.
A students ability to recall and apply information to perform effectively could include: reading the situation,
processing information, responding to feedback and making appropriate decisions. Depending on the nature
of the activity, these sorts of characteristics should be considered.
Criterion C is not appropriate for assessing replication of movement routines and umpiring/ refereeing
