bast na sunya sunya na bast agam agocar ais | gagana siara mahi blaka bolai tk na dharahuge kais ||1|| Shabdi 1. The city full of life appears as merely illusion, at the same time, the life there is going on by its own laws, which are impossible to ignore (bast na sunya sunya na bast); such are the realities of that State, which cannot be reached by any means or attained by mind (agam-agocar ais). My head is touching the sky (gagan siar mahi), the boy has said (blak bolai), But how I can name or describe this (tk na dharahuge kais)?
hasib kheliv rahib ranga | kma krodha na karib saga | hasib khelib gib gt | dih kari rkhi pana ct |7| Shabdi 7 Rejoice, be playful, live colorful life, but dont allow last (kma) and anger (krodha) become your accompanies; rejoice, be playful and sing devotional songs, but always keep your mind in check.
hasib kheliv dharib dhyn | ahanisi kathib brahma giyn | hasai khelai na karai man bhana | te nihcala sad nth ke sanga || Shabdi ||8|| Shabdi 8. While rejoicing and being playful, dont loose your awareness of Self, let through the day and night your only conversations would be about the realms of Spirit (literally brahma giyn, the knowledge of Para Brahma). Those who while rejoicing and playing, didnt loose their reasoning and self-control, they are always abide with the Natha.
ghana jovana k karai na sa citt na rkhai kmani psa | nda binda jkai ghai jarai tk sev prabat karai |19| Shabdi 19 Dont put you hopes in the abundant life, for full stomach will drag your mind into the snares of woman. Those whose path made from nada and bindu, the Mother Goddess (Parvati) herself is at their service.
blai jobani je nara jat kla dukl te nara sat | phuratai bhojana alapa ahr ntha kahai so ky hamr |20| Shabdi 20 The person who preserves his bindu (jat), he has to do this not sometimes or for while, but always stays in truth (faithful to his vow); surely if one keeps active and eat less, then his body belongs to him.
patha bina calib agani bina jalib anila t jahaiy | sasa beda rgorakha kahiy bjhilyau panita pahiy |22| Shabdi 22.To roam without pant is like burn without fire, for how one can conquer the taste for air (breathing)? Goraksh reveals the subtle aspects of truth (sukshma veda), O learned man, forget about your knowledge! - gagana manala me dh kv tah amta k vs | sagur hoi su bhari-bhari pvai nigur ji piys ||23|| Shabdi 23. In the region of the sky (akasha), there is an upside-down well, where the nectar (amta) resides. He who has a guru will drink from it in abundance, but who is without a guru will go away thirsty. marau ve jog marau maraa hai mh | tisa mara marau jisa mara goraa mari dh ||26|| Shabdi 26. Die yogi, die, the death is sweet, die by that death through which Goraksh Nath has passed.
habaki na bolib habaki na clib dhrai dhrib pva | garaba na karib sahajai rahib bhaata goraka ri ||27|| Shabdi 27. Dont speak in haste, dont walk recklessly, set your foot slowly. Dont be proud, but live naturally, says Guru Goraksh.
tho bolai thoa khi tis ghai pavan rahai sami | gagan manal se anahata bjai pyaa paai to sat gura ljai || Shabdi ||32|| Shabdi 32. The one speaks little, eats little and always engaged in the control of prana; who is always absorbed in the listening nada in the region of the sky, even if such one falls into the trouble, then the sat guru will surely deliver him. deva kal te sayam rahib bhta kal ahra | mana pavan lai unamani dharib te jog tata sra || Shabdi ||34|| Shabdi 34. One should exercise the self control in own life in the manner of gods (for whom this is the natural state), and eat in the manner of ghosts (who dont partake food at all). Bringing mind in breath, and set it motionless (unmani), He is yogi, such is the Essence of Yoga. ati ahr indr bal karai nsai gyn maithuna cita dharai | vypai nidr jhapai kla tki hiradai sad janjl || Shabdi ||36|| Shabdi 36. One who eats too much food, his senses overpower him and destroy his discrimination, by bringing last into mind. Too much sleep, and death hides in it, the heart of such a person is always unsteady.
ghai ghai gorakha bh kyr | jo nipajai so ho hamr | ghai ghai goraa kahai kah | kcai bhai rahe na p ||37|| Shabdi 37. In the bodies of everyone Gorakh has made the fields, which ever harvest we are capable to rise up here, it becomes our own. In the body of everyone Gorakh tells his words, water will not stay in unbaked pots.
ghai ghai goraka phirai nirut | ko ghaa jge ko ghaa st | ghai ghai goraka ghai ghai mna | p paracai gura mukhi cnha ||38|| Shabdi 38. In the bodies of everyone Gorakh moves silently; in some bodies he is awakened; in other bodies he sleeps. In everyones body there are Gorakh and Matsyendra, it is upon you to become acquainted with the presence of the faithful disciple.
man mai rahi bhed na kahi bolib amta b | gil agan hoib avadh, tau paa hoib p || Shabdi ||63|| Shabdi 63. O Avadhu! Abide within the Mind, do not disclose this secret (dont claim special status for himself), let your word would be as curing elixir (amta) for others. If anybody in front of you has become as fire, O Avadhut, you be water. gorak kahai sunre avadh jag me aisa rahna | nkh se dekhivo kn se suivo mukh se kach na kahna || Shabdi ||72|| Shabdi 72. Goraksh says, listen O Avadhut! Live in the world in this way; see with your eyes everything, listen with your ears everything, but say nothing from your mouth.
ahr nyadr vair kl kaise kar rakhib gurk bhandr | ahr too nidr moau siva sakat lai kari joau || Shabdi ||84|| Shabdi 84. How to protect the Guru's treasure (bindu) form the hostile time, while eating and sleeping indiscriminately? Reduce eating, conquer sleep, Take Siva and Sakti and let them meet (through nada). jog so je mana jogavai bilita rja bhogavai | kanaka kman tyge doi so jogesvara nirabhai hoi ||102|| Shabdi 102. The yogi is the one who disciplines his own mind (or self), therefore he takes over his Kingdom of Yoga (Contentment) without fights with others, (for he fights only with self). Giving up both attachment for wealth and women, he becomes the Lord of Yoga, who has not fears.
kahai suhel rahai duhel kahai rahai bina thoth | pahy guy sb bili y panita ke hthi raha ga poth ||119|| Shabdi 119. Talking is easy; to actually follow what you say is difficult. Talking without doing resembles parrot, who ceaselessly repeats words without understanding their meaning. He has read it, he repeated it many times; one morning a cat came and has eaten him up; only the heap of books, which he always liked to keep in his hands, has left after the learned man. kahai suhel rahai duhel bina khy gu mh | khi hng kapra bakhai goraka kahai sab jhh ||120|| Shabdi 120. Saying are full of enthusiasm, but the actual implementation of own sayings in own life is failure. How one can say that the jaggery is sweet without actually tasting it? You eat asafoetida, but say it is camphor (such is fate of those who dont understand what they are saying). Gorakh says, such kind of behavior is hypocrisy.
bhari bhari khi hire hire ji | jog nah pt ba bali | sayam hoi vayu sagraha | aisa vidhi akal purus kau gahau || Shabdi ||145|| Shabdi 145. He has filled his stomach so tide that he has to walk slowly, such yoga of my son, is not big achievement. It is by self control that the air becomes established, this way the Self which is beyond of time (akal purus) was attained.
khye bh mariye, a khye bh mariye | gorak kahai pt sajami h tariye | madhi nirantara kjai vsa | nihcala manuv thira ho ssa ||146|| Shabdi 146. If you eat food you suffer (literally dieing), and if do not eat food then again you suffer. Gorakh says, O son, the self-control (samyam) would take you to cross over (this situation). Always remain in the middle (of extreme views), the mind would become immovable, and the breathing would acquire steadiness. pavan h jog pavana h bhog | pavan h harai chatsau rog | y ko jai bhed | so pai karat pai deva ||147|| Sabdi 148. Verily, the control of air is yoga, the control of air is way to delight, the control of air takes away the 36 diseases. He who knows the mystery of the control of air , he is Creator, he is maker of his own reality.
bindu h jog bindu h bhog | bindu h harai causahi rog | y bindu k ko jntai bhed | so pai h karat pa h dev || Shabdi ||148|| Sabdi 148. Verily, bindu is yoga, bindu is enjoyment, bindu takes away the 64 diseases. He who knows the mystery of the bindu, he is Creator, he is maker of his own reality.
sca k sabad son k rekha | nigur kauc aka sagur kau upadesa | gura ka muny guna mai rahai | nigur bhramai augua gahai ||149|| Shabdi 149. The Word of Tuth (sca k sabad) is like the line made of gold. Those without Guru, are getting nothing, those with Guru, have obtained their lesson. Those who were properly initiated by their Guru, they become established in Goodness, but those who wandering without having Guru, always carry with them only their numerous flows (augua gahai).
guru k vc khojai nh ahakr ahakra karai | khoj jvai khoji gur kau ahakr k pyaa parai ||151|| Shabdi 151. Those whose egos are inflamed, they dont try to find where the words of guru lead. Those who search for their life, they will find their guru, but the proud will never become the masters of their bodies.
svm kc v kc jid | kc ky kc bind | ky kari pkai ky kari sjhai | kc agan nra na jai ||156|| Shabdi 156. Devi said: O Svami, the breath is disturbed, the life is disappointing, the body is unbaked, the bindu is unsteady. What to do to make them steady, please give me your suggestion? If the fire is dim, water will not boil.
tau dev pk vyu pk jid | pk ky pk bind | brahma agani akhanita balai | pk agan nra parajalai ||157|| Shabdi 157. O Devi: If the breath is controlled, then the life is stabilized; if the body is baked by yoga, the bindu becomes perfected and the fire of Brahman (akhand jyoti) becomes steady and continuous. If the fire is sufficient, all water will evaporate.
ram dhram jvl joti | suraji kal na chpai choti | kancana kavala kirai parasi | jala mala duragandha sarba sukhi ||169|| Sahbdi 169. The fire of lamp is burning with making loud sounds, the kalas of Surya nadi unceasingly on the top. Once the golden rays emanated, they have dried up all impurities and bad flavors of water. - rsat rha gol-rog | bhol bhachika bh bhog | gorak kahai saraba jog | yatan mai nah nipajai jog ||214|| Shabdi 214. Always angry and disappointed, suffering from swollen stomach, the careless eater, who always remain hungry; Gorakh says, the yogi with mated hair, in the constant trouble the yoga wouldnt be perfected.
jibhy indr ekai nl | jo rkhai so bacai kl | panita gyn na karasi garaba | jibhy jt jina jty saraba ||219|| Shabdi 219 The senses (indr) and tongue are the two opposite sides of the same pipe, what ever you put in, it becomes time. Dont be proud because of much learning, or if you have seen the Lord. If only you have conquered your tongue, then you conquered the world.
jog so jo rkhe jog | jibhy indr na karai bhog | anjana choi niranjana rahai | tk gorak jog kahai || Shabdi ||230|| Shabdi 230. A yogi is the one who always stays in yoga, who do not seeks the pleasure through the tongue and senses, who left over the irresponsibility (became responsible for the own actions) and always stays within Support-less Reality (niranjana), such one is whom Gorakh calls a yogi.
suni ja m suni ja bpa | suni niranjana pai p | suni kai paracai bhay sathra | nishacala jog gahra gabhra ||231|| Shabdi 231. Nothingness is the mother, emptiness is the father, nothingness is niranjan, your own self. One who have to know the nothingness through own personal experience has acquired stillness. Such yogi is immovable and his knowledge is beyond of the surface glance.
pahi pahi pahi ket muv kathi kathi kathi kah knha | bahi bahi bahi bahu dhaa gay prabrahma nah cnha || 248|| Shabdi 248. Reading, reading, reading so many have died in this way; they were ceaselessly speaking about it, but did they actually advanced towards their objective? Further and further on, through how many bodies one has to pass without realizing Pra Brahma?
sabad hamr kharatar kh rahai hamr sc | lekhai likh na kgad m so patr ham bc || Shabdi || 264 || Shabdi 264. Goraksh says, Our books composed without wasting paper, in this way, we spared lot of paper sheets; our sayings are challenging (literally our sayings as the sharp sword), but we live in the Truth which we preach.
katha kathai so sia boliye veda pahai so nt | raha rahai so gur hamr ham rahat k sth ||270|| Shabdi 270. The one who tells inspiring stories should be called disciple, and the one who has became learned by the reading of the Vedas the grand- disciple. He who teaches by the way of his life (raha rahai or acarya), he is my Guru, I am the follower of the one whose actions are worthy to be followed.
darasa m darasa bp | darasa mh pai p | y darasaa k ko jai bhev | so pai karat pai dev || Shabdi ||272|| Shabdi 272. The Kundalas (darasaa) inserted into ears are the Mother and the Father, the Kundalas are the experience of self as Supreme Self in the own heart. He who knows the mystery of darasaa, he is Creator, he is maker of his own reality.
