Having students briefly learn about the three levels of government in Canada is vital for students to know and understand; and allows
students to be informed citizens. Having an understanding of the responsibilities of each level of government helps students
understand how government decisions may be made as well as having students understand how their country is run.
Curriculum Connections : (which can be: big ideas / learning standards /curricular competencies/core competencies)
https://curriculum.gov.bc.ca/
There are a number of curricular connections touched on during this lesson, including: aspects of current government structures,
systems of government, as well as components of government.
I can successfully explain the three levels of government found within Canada (Municipal, Provincial and Federal). I can understand as
well as sort responsibilities for each of the three levels of government (healthcare, immigration, parks etc.).
Circulation of the class allows students who may have any questions or is in need of extra guidance or help is able to receive said help
from teacher.
Assessment and Evaluation: (formative and summative possibilities related to curricular connections)
Students complete and sort a worksheet/chart where responsibilities from a list of responsibilities for municipal, provincial, or federal
government to have jurisdiction over. If the large majority of the class has accurate answers, I will be content that the class understood
the lesson concepts.
Have all material such as worksheets, scissors, and glue prepared before the class. If students are struggling, allow students to work in
pairs.
