strategies?
Materials:

- Smocks
- Liquid food colouring
- 1 cup of Epsom salts
- 1 cup of water
- cup of salt
- Mixing paint trays
- Paint brushes
- White paper

Implementation

1. First, I will mix the base (salts + water) on each tray

2. Lay out each sheet of paper
3. Invite children to the table
4. Ask them what colours they would like to paint with
(add those colours to the bases)
5. Provide them with paint brushes
6. Allow them to express themselves through paint
7. Ask questions such as what do you see? what are
you painting? what colours are you making?
8. Observe if they are touching the water colour paint and
ask, what do you feel?
9. Allow the children to paint and when they are finished,
allow the paint to dry
10. Once paintings are in the process of drying, ask the
preschoolers to observe
11. Ask them what they see, let them touch the painting
12. Clean up and allow the paintings to fully dry
13. Ask them to observe what they see now that it is fully
dried and crystallized
Teaching Strategies

1. The first strategy I will use is sensory engagement. This

activity is very hands on and they will be using their
sense of sight and sense of touch to examine the paint.
They will get a chance to watch the paint crystallize as
it dries and they can also feel the different textures.
This activity involves a very different approach to
painting, due to this, the children will get to observe
something new. The texture of the paint will feel very
different from typical paint.

2. The second strategy I will use is questions. Asking

simple open-ended questions such as what do you
see or what do you feel will encourage the children
to express what they see and feel. They may comment
on how different it is from the usual the paint they use.
Each question will prompt the children to think more
deeply about the activity and be more curious about
what they see.
