DIFFERENCE OF EFFECTIVENESS AMONG DRY-CUPPING-
THERAPY (DCT), WET-CUPPING-THERAPY (WCT), AND CUPPING-
PUNCTURING-CUPPING (CPC) ON THE DECREASE OF PAIN SCALE
OF THE LOW BACK PAIN (LBP) PATIENTS

ABSTRACT

Low back pain (LBP) takes place due to various processes. The LBP
patients will complain the discomfort in the lumbosacral region. Cupping therapy
is one of the non-pharmacological therapies, which has been proven to be
effective to decrease pain scale. However, it has not been known which cupping
therapy technique is the most effective to decrease the pain scale. The objective of
this research is to investigate the difference of effectiveness among dry-cupping-
therapy (DCT), wet-cupping-therapy (WCT), and cupping-puncturing-cupping
(CPC) on the decrease of pain scale of the LBP patients.
This research used the quasi experimental research method with
completely randomized design. Random sampling technique was used to
determine its samples consisted of 36 respondents. 21 of the respondents were
females and the rest were males. The ages of the respondents ranged from 27 to
67 years old. 26 of the respondents worked as private employees.
The result of the research shows that the average of pain scale in each
group prior to the cupping therapy exposure was 6.42. Following the cupping
therapy exposure, the average of pain scale decreased into 3.58 in the DCT group
and the WCT group, and 2.33 in the CPC group. The result of the Wilcoxons
Test shows that each group exposed to the cupping therapy had a significant effect
on the decrease of pain scale of the LBP patients as indicated by the p-value =
0.002. The result of the one-way ANOVA showed the effect of all of the
intervention groups on the decrease of pain scale as specified by the p-value =
0.001. Based on the result of the post hoc test using the least significant
difference, a conclusion was drawn that the CPC technique was the most effective
to decrease the pain scale of the LBP patients.
