I am Najihah and today I am going to speak up about the facts and figures of cancer
in Malaysia. I am into this topic and have done some research on it for further information.
Cancer is a big issue all around the world. It can affect the young and old, active and
inactive, and slim and overweight. There are no guarantees for anyone. Even though
everyone may be at risk, there are ways to protect yourself and lower your risk. According to
estimates, there are about 90-100,000 people in Malaysia living with cancer at any one time.
The record states 21,773 Malaysians being diagnosed with cancer but estimates that almost
10,000 cases are unregistered every year. Increasing population and longer life spans
contributes to rise of cancer. It is estimated that one in four Malaysians (1:4) will develop
cancer by 75 years old. Cancer occurs more in females than males with a ratio of male to
female (1:1.2). Data of people diagnosed with cancer, 21.36% Malay males and 25.02%
Malay females, 21.46% Chinese males and 23.27% Chinese females, 3.31% Indian males
and 5.58% Indian females. The top 5 cancers affecting both male and female in Malaysia
which are 29.30% breast cancer, 24.44% colorectal (bowel) cancer, 23.84% lung cancer,
11.52% cervical cancer and 10.90% nasopharyngeal (throat) cancer.
Estimated nearly 40% of all cancers are preventable, including lung, colorectal,
cervical cancers, with smaller effects in breast and nasopharyngeal cancer. Improvement in
early detection and treatment leads to better survival rates for people with cancer. Set an
appointment to certified medical office and regularly do medical check-up. Signs and
symptoms of cancer somehow can be very noticeable where you may recognize lump
anywhere on your body, changes on your skin to and existing mole, change in physically or
internally habits, any abnormal bleeding, unexplained weight loss and more. There are a lot
of different cancers and they all can be treated in different ways.
