SAER-6258 Health Check Standard Methodology

The primary objective of this new engineering report on health


check studies was to provide immediate and long term action
plans to assure long term plant operation, safety and
reliability. The studies covered a large spectrum of technical
disciplines that included process, inspection, materials &
corrosion, instrumentation & control, stationary and rotating
equipment. An important step of the study is the integrity
workshop which is conducted weekly during the study to
integrate the different discipline findings and
recommendations. The study covers the complete plant
(process and equipment) from the feed to the product. The
study also highlights any equipment performance and
efficiency improvement opportunities.

This is a revision of 16-SAMSS-502 paragraph 9.2.6 to


mandate electric operation instead of manual operation for
feeder breakers. The reason for this change is to support the
Arc flash initiative to enable remote switching/ tripping of
breakers. Currently, this requirement is optional in the
standards and as a result manual option is the default.

SABP-L-009 Piping Spring Supports Design, Construction, Inspection and


Maintenance Guidelines

The scope of this new best practice is to establish the


necessary knowledge on the different types of piping spring
supports used in Saudi Aramco operating facilities. The
document also provides information about the piping spring
supports design, selection, construction and assessment. In
addition, this document addresses recommended guidelines for
periodic spring support maintenance and inspection.

Standards Coordination Unit had loaded the "Risk Assessment


and Management Model" into the standards website that can
be used to assess and manage risk when evaluating deviations
from Saudi Aramco mandatory engineering standard
requirements. The same concept and approach could be
adopted in developing new standards or updating existing
standards. This model is a workable version and we will allow
enough time for evaluation before we make it part of the e-

ALERT-10-005A Schneider Electric 5 & 15 kV Metal Clad Switchgear-VR Type


Pushrod Breakage

This new Technical Alert entitled "Schneider Electric 5 & 15 kV


Metal Clad Switchgear-VR Type Pushrod Breakage" has been
approved. These type of breakers need to be inspected and
repaired. The manufacturer has discovered problems with
pushrod assemblies installed on 5 & 15 kV VR style breakers
manufactured from March 1, 2004 through March 1, 2010.
Manufacturer will repair them at no cost to Saudi Aramco.

This revision will globalize Saudi Aramco Security and General


Purpose Fencing. Upon approval of this revision 12-SAMSS-021
and 12-SAMSS-022 will be canceled and ASTM documents will
be used for the materials of the fences. Will be more cost
effective by referring to ASTMs for the materials of the fences
in lieu of SAMSS.
