Introduction

Installation

The SEE Electrical PDF Converter is part of the normal installation of SEE Electrical. You can check the presence of the
functionality by opening the command line in SEE Electrical; the commands will be visible when they are installed.
There are two SEE Electrical PDF Converter commands available

This command exports the active drawing into PDF format

This command exports the active workspace into PDF format

The SEE Electrical PDF Converter is an additional module, which means that is bounded to the serial number of your
license.

It is therefore important that you insert your serial number. This is the same serial number which is necessary to contact
the license server for licensing and LiveUpdate.
When the option does not appear in the Command Extensions list you can contact your SEE Electrical reseller to get the
program.

No license available
When you start the PDF commands Drawing2pdf or Workspace2pdf but you have no license file installed the
following dialog will appear:

Checking / inserting the serial number

To work with SEE Electrical PDF Converter you need to have two things:
1. Your software serial number
2. A license file for the PDF Generator which unlocks the functionality, you receive this from IGE+XAO when
you buy this module.

Two situations can exist: Proceed with A or B,

A) You use the software protection (No Hasp4 dongle)

6. Insert your serial number (8 digits, this number was assigned to your software license as you bought the SEE
Electrical software). When you have used the internet license system and/or the LiveUpdate before this serial
number is already inserted.
7. Click on tab FOLDER
8. Check the path to the TEMPLATES folder. This is the location where the license file for the PDF Generator
must be stored

 10. Copy the license file Drawing2PDF.ext.pfl you received from IGE+XAO into the folder as listed in the
Templates folder as listed.
11. Restart SEE Electrical
12. Now you are ready to use the software

B) You use a network dongle (Hasp4 dongle attached)

1. Start the program

2. Open a project
3. Open a page
4. Open the command line ( View, Commands or Alt+C)
5. Start the SEE Electrical PDF Generator
6. When you use a dongle the SEE Electrical PDF Converter will ask you to insert your serial number:

Converter

Functionality
The SEE Electrical PDF Converter makes it possible to export a single page, a selection of pages or a complete project
(except other documents) into the Adobe PDF format. It is possible to create the PDF file automatically when storing
the project.
As additional functionality the system is capable of generating a new Components section the PDF and sorts the
contents according the parameters set.
The SEE Electrical PDF Converter can be activated over the command line.

Exporting a single page

The active drawing can be exported into the PDF format:
1. Open the drawing
2. Start the SEE Electrical PDF Converter by activating command Drawing2pdf
3. Browse to the location where the PDF file should be created.

5. Now the PDF file. This will take some time, especially when there are many elements on the
page.
6. You can open the PDF with an PDF Reader like Adobe Reader

Note: The generated PDF file is an external file, and not part of the
workspace

Exporting a workspace
When the SEE Electrical Diagram module is at least level Standard you can use the function (=)/ location (+)
functionality.
This means that the PDF output can be sorted according several parameters

Components
The SEE Electrical PDF Converter creates a new section in the PDF file, called Components. This section provides a
smart way of navigating within the generated PDF file. With this function it is easy to find and locate a component in the
PDF file. It uses the capabilities of the Adobe Reader.

Automatic functionality

The SEE Electrical PDF Converter can generate PDF files, initiated by an event.

The possible events are the Save workspace or Close workspace actions. This function is especially useful when the
projects must be available on a companys intra- or ultra net. The function ensures that always the latest PDF
representation of the project is used.
The location of the generated files can be set and stored.

PDF Structure

The generated PDF file has the same structure as the SEE Electrical workspace. The contents can be made visible by
clicking on the contents table.

All hyperlinks (references) are clickable, they can be used to jump to the destination of the references. This
functionality is identical to the follow references functionality in the advanced module.

Glossary of Terms

Dongle
A dongle (pronounced DONG-uhl) is a mechanism for ensuring that only authorized users can copy or use specific
software applications, especially very expensive programs. Common mechanisms include a hardware key that plugs into
a parallel or serial port on a computer and that a software application accesses for verification before continuing to run.
SEE Electrical uses Hasp4 dongles

Event
Something that takes place; an occurrence.

PDF
Invented by Adobe Systems and perfected over 15 years, Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) lets you capture and
view robust informationfrom any application, on any computer systemand share it with anyone around the world

Serial number
Serial license number. Every license has a number, it is used for identification.
