Once you have logged in, you will be prompted to the following screen:
The Beaconhouse English Language Test assesses five areas of the English Language: Speaking, Listening,
the Mechanics of English, Reading and Writing.

To start the test, go to the section you want to attempt first, complete all the tasks and submit your
answers.

To go back to the main page, click on BELT- Teachers located at the top-left corner of the screen.

Please note that in order to receive a final grade, you must complete all sections of the test and submit
each section.
The total time allotted for the assessment is three hours.

Speaking Section

The speaking section has two tasks. One of the tasks will be online and the other will be conducted face
to face with an ELD facilitator.

Note: To check completion of a task: go back to the main page by clicking on BELT (located at the top-
left corner of the screen), you will see a check mark on the right side of the task.

Task 1- will be conducted will an ELD facilitator via f2f or Skype at another time.

Task 2- For Task 2 (given below), you are going to speak about the topic for 2 minutes. Read the topic
and the related questions below it. Take 1-2 minutes and jot down the points you want to speak about.

Instructions: Once you click on this task, select the add submission button

At the bottom of the screen, you will see the following box:
Select the allow button and press close. Please make sure the microphone is attached to the PC.

When you are ready to record, press the (RED) record button and speak. After the recording, enter your
name for the file, upload and save. You have the option to listen to your recording and submit your
entry or re-record and then submit. Please note: you are only allowed two attempts. See the picture
below:

Once you have completed the task click on BELT-Teachers at the top left corner of screen, which will
take you to the main page (as shown by the red arrow below).
Listening Section For this section you will need head phones.

Task I- has 10 questions.

At the end of the assessment be sure to click the submit button (as shown below by the black arrow). If
you dont click the submit button, the assessment will be lost.
Note: to back to the BELT to view the next task, click the BELT-Teacher at the top-left of the screen (as
shown by the red arrow button in the top screen).

Once you are back on the main page check to see if the check mark appears on the side of the task (as
shown below).
Task 2

Click on task 2 which will take you to this screen. Listen to the recording and answer the questions
below it.

Once you are finished dont forget to click the submit button.

Task 3- for this task you will listen to one sound file and match the answers.
Reading

Select the first task by clicking on it.

Task 1- Read the passage and answer questions below it.

Task 2 Read the passage and answer questions below it.

Task 3- Read the passage and answer questions below it.

Note: check to see if there is a check mark on the side of the screen next to each section. Now move on
to the next section.

Mechanics of English
Click on the first task and answer the question

Task 1- The first task has 20 questions. Select the best answer from the choices given.

Task 2- You will be given one passage. Read the passage and choose the most appropriate answer from
the drop-down menu to complete the sentence.
Writing

The writing sections has two tasks.

Task 1- Use 100-150 words and write an email to the school head addressing the issues stated below.

To add your submission click the Add Submission button (shown above).

Once you have finished typing your entry. Dont forget to click the submit button.

Task 2 - Using 150-200 words, write a story using the pictures below. To add your submission click the
Add submission button and start typing.
Final check: go book to the main screen by clicking on BELT-Teachers located at the top-left of the
screen.

Now make sure that all section tasks have a check mark on the right side of the task (as shown below). If
see any task that doesnt have a check mark next to it then go back re-attempt the task and make sure
click the final submit button.

Congratulations you have completed the BELT. Please notify the school head.
