History:

A poor white girl from the Midwest, Amanda joined the military when she turned 18 for
a college scholarship. Military life suited her well, and instilled in her a number of habits
that have kept with her for life, including her neatness and drive to stay physically fit.
However, an injury she suffered early in her career destroyed her ability to have children,
and all her hopes and dreams of someday being a mother were shattered.

She completed the required three-year service for the full scholarship, then went on to
complete medical school and received her Ph.D. in biology. Whether conscious of it or
not, her sterility heavily influenced her scientific interests, leading her to study
embryology, microbiology, neurobiology, and cloning, among other disciplines. A
former squadmate helped get her a job with a military contractor as a researcher, a
position which allowed her a great deal of freedom as long as her work led in profitable
directions.

While experimenting with accelerating the growth and productivity of genetically

engineered bacteria, Amanda had a sudden realization: if she could use accelerated
growth technology with cloned tissue to shape the development of the brain, she could
potentially recreate an animal or person with the same memories and personality as the
original. If the original were dead, it would be like bringing them back from the dead.

She went to work at a frantic pace, but her early experiments inspired not awe but dread
in her employers. They could see no value in cloning animals, and human cloning was
not a taboo they wanted to break. Furious, she quit and took her research with her, using
some compromising information about her bosses to get around ownership issues.

Amanda then moved to San Francisco and purchased a run-down office building,
converting it into a laboratory and pouring all her money into her research. She slowly
perfected the technology with the help of the local gang, the Hunter’s Park Boys, who
provided her with dead animals from their dog-fighting ring. One frustrating limitation,
however, was that she had no way of knowing how well the altered brain development
worked, since no one was familiar with the animals prior to their deaths.

Opportunity knocked when she encountered Connor and Duke, and she leapt at the
chance to have an observable subject in the real world. The dog might not come back
exactly the same, but it would be good enough for its owner, right?

Psychology

Sex Life: heterosexual; single, not looking, but open to chance encounters

Morality:

Amanda will let nothing stand in her way when it comes to her research. She has no
problem with using people to get what she wants, then discarding them when she’s done.
The ends justify the means, especially if it will prove her naysayers wrong and grant her
the recognition and respect she craves. She will charm, manipulate and associate with
anyone who can bring her one step closer to her goal. She is reluctant to clean up the
messes she or her experiments cause, and will only do so if forced.
Ambitions: nothing less than overcoming death itself, and the eternal glory that would
come with such an achievement
Frustrations: people who can’t keep up with her intellectually, interfere with her research
or think they understand her
Temperament: quick to anger when provoked or frustrated; will not hold back from
saying what she thinks
Attitude: friendly, cheerful, playful when she wants to turn on the charm or is enjoying
herself; cold, stern, all business when working or feeling lonely
Complexes: none
Superstitions: none
Imagination: very good; highly capable of thinking on the fly or coming up with new
experiments or lines of research
Phobias: afraid of dying unknown
