Activity One: *In Journal*

Activity Two:

The group of individuals who people choose to associate themselves with as

he or she grows defines not only who they are but the values and characteristics
that they carry with them. Peoples morals and core values usually come from
parents that have raised their children a certain way and or to believe certain
things. Being in different organizations and clubs including sports, church and
other specified groups really set apart people into different cultures and
personalities. At the end of the day, the people whom one calls their friends also
play a huge role in an individuals identity. Also, location can play a huge role in
an individuals behavior for example, in the south are usually associated with
having southern hospitality and being welcoming and kind which can be viewed
as its own culture entirely. Overall, the location and people that an individual
chooses to associate themselves with over a period of time, become a part of that
community.

Part Two:

While exploring the two websites, one of the stories that really caught my
interest was called The Letters Were Everything. An ex inmate and his mother
communicated through letters while he served his time, after he was released he
created an app to make communication between inmates and their families to stay
in contact. This definitely took me by surprise because someone who went through
something so tough and vigorous took his situation and used it to help others in the
future. This man was completely out of power while in jail and still made his
vision possible. He defied many odds and stereotypes by using his time in jail to
better not only himself but those who will be in his shoes later on. This connects to

literacies in the way that many literacies deal with a stereotype of people in certain
cultures, locations, and environments. This man broke many stereotypes of
criminals in the fact that he truly learned from his experience and not changed for
the better but tried to change the nation as well.
