Reading Process Reflection
I did find this process very helpful, because I was able to look at a lot of information and chase
rabbit holes that lead to more information, that in turn lead to more rabbit holes. I actually read a
very strong counter-argument to my thinking, and I changed my opinion because of it. I had
originally thought that eSports should be considered a sport, its very competitive, requires a lot
of skill, and has a large following. On the other hand, the games that are played dont have fixed
rules like other sports. Private companies own the games, and in turn, and change the rules of
play however they want to. This makes for aa very easily corruptible system, where the highest
bidder could influence the game company to do anything for the right price. The most
challenging part of this process, though, was deciding on which article to start with. I read
several, but in the end, chose the one that changed my thinking. Finding hits after that point was
also a bit challenging, I may have added some key words in my google searches to narrow down
to more relevant information. While I may not have found a topic, I certainly found some great
articles. I also learned that the library has access to thousands upon thousands of reliable sources.
When I use the library website, I get hit after hit of useful articles, links, videos, and posts. I will
continue to use the library as a resource for this classes, and classes in the future.
Topic Proposal Reflection
The process I went through was very tedious and repetitive. I made it that way, so I knew for
sure that I liked it and was interested. I took Professor Campbells advice to heart when he said
If you do it on something youre not curious about, youre going to have a terrible experience
and wont learn a thing.. It just so happens that my second or third idea for a topic was
interesting, and I came about it using the interest inventory in The Curious Researcher. I started
with a very broad term, something I knew I liked, and tried to find a side of it I didnt know very
I gave myself plenty of time to complete the topic proposal, because I knew how
important it was. My process to writing it involved a lot of free writing on a document, and then
boiling the information down to a good overview and summary. As a Questioner, I learned that
my questions tend to lean more on affirming what I already think, and asking what counterpoints
there are to that way of thinking. Through that process, my whole view on my topic changed
drastically.
Ive never consciously thought about my reading before, but I realized I am a lazy reader.
I tend to skim, look for keywords, as well as look for bolded, italicized, and important looking
text. It has worked for me so far, however its now a goal of mine to be a more involved reader.
Finally, I have learned that I am a writer. Not a good writer, but I am noticing that I use writers
moves frequently to make what Im writing flow better. For example, the use of Finally, as well
