7. Geering Up UBC Engineering & Science for Kids is a non-profit, student-run organization,
dedicated to promoting science, engineering, and technology to the children and youth of British
Columbia through fun, innovative, and hands-on experiments and projects. Geering Up also strives
to reach all children and youth, regardless of gender, ethnicity, culture, or socio-economic status.

9. Job Summary
10. General Instructors are our front line workers, working the entire summer (May-August)
leading in-school workshops and summer camps.
11. Under the guidance of the Directors, Instructors are required to:
12. 1. Develop science, engineering and technology curriculum
13. a) Plan and design workshops for elementary schools classes, and after-school programs
14. b) Create educational and engaging camp activities
15. 2. Act as an Instructor and role model at workshops, camps, and events
16. 3. Following safety and risk management policies and ensuring every student is safe and
having fun
17. 4. Train, supervise, and provide guidance to volunteer personnel
18. 5. Complete all evaluations and reports in a timely manner
19. 6. Assist in prep tasks at the end of each day
20. 7. Instructors working May-August will be asked to travel throughout British Columbia to
deliver workshops and camps for at least one week of the summer. Travel and lodging costs will be
covered
21. 8. Perform other duties, as requested by the Directors

23. Organization Status
24. Instructors report to the Directors and Program Manager. Instructors work in co-operation
with other Instructors and provide leadership and mentorship to Junior Instructors.
25. Terms of Appointment
26. Full-time for the period starts May 1 - Sept 1. Includes two team meetings from mid-February
to April. Full time hours will be approximately Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm. There will also
be training and events on several evenings or weekends of the work term, information regarding
these dates will be given out at a later time.
27. Remuneration
28. $12.40 per hour x 40 hours/week x 18 weeks, for a total of $8,928. To be paid out according
to the calendar set by UBC payroll.

32. 1. UBC undergraduate student with a strong background in science, engineering, or
technology
33. 2. Strong experience working with children in a teaching environment
34. 3. Proven leadership skills and exceptional teamwork abilities
35. 4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
36. 5. Planning, organizational, multi-tasking, and self-directed work skills
37. 6. Proven ability to create and implement working projects and models of scientific concepts
38. 7. Special consideration given to those with formal training in special education and/or
disability theory, those who have worked in a summer camp environment in the past, and those
with current Standard First Aid certification.
39. 8. All Geering Up Staff must have a Criminal Record Check on file before they may work with
children.

Job Description:

Midgard Consulting Incorporated


Located in downtown Vancouver, Midgard Consulting provides consulting services to the
energy sector, electrical utilities, aboriginal peoples, and governments across Canada,
United States, and Africa.

Role
As a member of the Midgard team the candidate will work on multiple projects directly
alongside Midgard staff. The candidate will be challenged to contribute to Midgards
widely ranging and exciting work, and will have the opportunity to learn from, and interact
directly, with the Midgard senior executives. Day to day activities may include:

Industry research and examination of documents pertaining to ongoing technical work


Basic technical and economic analyses of energy and utility industry projects
Financial analysis and business case development of generation and transmission
assets
Developing generation (Hydroelectric, Solar, Natural Gas, and Wind) and
Transmission resources
Assisting to author reports, presentations, proposals, and other written materials.

The successful candidate can expect to learn the technical and economic fundamentals of
the energy and electric utility industries along with a general background in business
issues. Midgard provides exposure to a wide variety of disciplines in a challenging work
environment to foster rapid knowledge growth.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications
Minimum three (3) years of university or equivalent post-secondary education
experience in Engineering. Preference will be provided to candidates also pursuing:
o Minor in Commerce, Economics or experience related to business, economics or
finance.
o Renewable and Non-Renewable Energy Generation, Power Transmission &
Distribution.
Excellent writing and analytic skills.
Hold a valid Class V drivers license and pass a criminal record check.

Skills & Abilities


Technical Knowledge A background in engineering, and commerce / economics.
Excellent Communication Solid communication skills (written, verbal, public
speaking) are important. Must be social and enjoy developing peer to peer
relationships.
Results Orientation Able to confidently prioritize assignments and meet deadlines
(dependable and reliable) drawing on colleagues for support and advice as needed.
Business Insight & Solutions An understanding of the fundamentals of business and
economics would be beneficial, although the successful candidate will acquire many
of these skills on the job.
Multitasking and Organization You will be involved in a wide variety of ongoing
projects. Good time management and organizational skills will be essential.
Tools: A working knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, and MS
PowerPoint. Knowledge of AutoCAD (or other 3D modeling software), PVSyst,
and/or PSSE is desired.
