JH Choir Lesson 10/25

Materials: Seize the Day arr. by Roger Emerson

Objectives:
Using piano help, students will be able to sing correct rhythms and pitches of Seize the
Day with fewer than 5 errors.
Using Smart Board, students will be able to sight-read melodic lines on solfege with no
errors
Working in sections, students will analyze their voice parts and how they sound giving
specific feedback.
Standard Addressed:
Pr.4.I Develop strategies to address technical challenges in a varied repertoire of music
and evaluate their success using feedback from ensemble peers and other sources to
refine performances

Beginning
Students will start by sitting up at the smart board
Students will sight read melodic lines 30-34 using solfege
T will give students a solfege pattern on her hand, and students will sing it back

Lesson
Students will go back to seats and take out Go Ye Into All the World
T will be working on beginning section
Students will begin singing by sitting, and as they crescendo through the phrase, they
will slowly stand up. (pp = sitting, FF = standing)
Once students can associate the movement with the concept of a crescendo, they will
try it without the movement
T will work on more dynamic contrast in the song
T will work on vowels and diction of song
Students will get in sectional circles around the room
Students will sing through Seize the Day once with piano help
T will go back to beginning, and the students will sing the opening statement of the song
(a cappella section)
Before they begin singing, T will designate a leader in each section to listen as
they sing
After they finish, each leader from each section will give specific feedback regarding that
run-through.
Students should list accomplishments and areas of weakness, and not point out
any person in particular. They should only refer to whole-section work.
T will go on to another section in the piece and repeat this process with new leaders
from each section.
End
T will end the lesson with students singing Dance Today With Joy
T will correct any glaring errors as they arise.
