COURSEWORK AND TEST


INTRODUCTION
There will be only one major coursework for this semester that covers the topic of Urban Land Use and Value.
Assessment criteria is explained in the coursework brief. The final date will be determined by the lecturer. The final
carry mark for this coursework is 20%.

An hour test will be conducted after the completion of topic Economics of Residential Development. The carry mark
for this test is 10%. Another 10% will be from the LCC Presentation.

LATE SUBMISSIONS
Assignment must be handed in by the due date and time. Any submission after the due date will be deemed late. Late
submission will not be marked and will be given a FAIL grade.

PLAGIARISM
Plagiarism in any form is not permitted. The use of another persons work or ideas must be acknowledged. Where
this is suspected, the students will be penalised.

COURSEWORK

COURSEWORK OBJECTIVES
Students should be able to understand:
Problems of Urban Areas
Strategic planning for new development plan by local authority and private entity to overcome problems
of urban areas.

COURSEWORK BRIEF
This coursework is divided into two tasks as follows:

Task 1 Literature Review


New development/redevelopment/urban renewal is one of the ways to overcome problems in urban areas. Carry out
a literature review on common problems of urban areas in this country and how new
development/redevelopment/urban renewal plans by local authority and/or private entity considered to be a solution
to it.

Task 2 Case Study


You are required to search and use one new redevelopment/redevelopment/urban renewal area to carry out the
following studies:
Provide background details of case study,
Study and analyse its concept plan by local authority and/or private entity,
Identify and anaylse the underlaying factors contibuted to the proposal/work.
You are encouraged to submit any drawing, photos, etc related to your case study.

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Students are divided into groups with 4-5 members each.
2. Groups are not allowed to use similar case study.
3. Groups are allowed to cross-reference with other groups.
4. All assumptions related to each task shall be submitted separately in the Appendix.

SUBMISSION AND PRESENTATION


1. Written report
The document shall be submitted as a standard document not more than 3000 words with minimum 5
references. All supporting document i.e relevant drawings/plans in different sized must be folded to A4 and
shall be comb-bind together.

2. Oral Presentation
Each group is required to make a formal presentation in English for a period of 20 minutes (not more than 20
slides) and all group member must present.

ASSESSMENT
1. Marks will be awarded on a group basis throughout the written report submitted. Individual mark will be
awarded on oral presentation.
2. Students are required to prepare their own analysis and not to copy or use existing project. Originality of work
will be an added advantage to the group.
