CCSS Standards: The students are writing their innovation of the "Wolves in the walls" story.

Main Lesson Aims (Concepts, Procedures, & Processes):

- The students will use expanded noun phrases in their writing.

Materials: Picture of the dragon, worksheet to describe the elephants, worksheet of using expanded noun

phrases in sentences.

Students Prior Knowledge:

- Most of the students can describe the nouns using adjective.

- Most of the students understand the meaning of the noun and the adjective.

Possible Problems and Misconceptions/ solution

- Some students might disturb others when they are presenting their work. So, I will make sure that they

are all listening silently.

- Some students might not know what is a noun. So, I will discuss it at the beginning of the lesson.
Lesson Schedule

Targeted teacher language: we use expanded noun phrases to give more specific details about the noun. When

we put adjectives before the noun, thats what we call expanded noun phrases.

Student language: they have to use adjectives to describe nouns. Give examples of noun. Describe the

dragon. Describe the elephants.

Engage (warm up, review prior knowledge): time:

- I will ask the students: what is a noun? Or, who can give me an example of a noun? And

I will write their answers on the board. I will tell them: noun is a word that identify

Person, Place, Animal, Thing, or idea. 5 min

Core (introduce and practice new concepts & procedures):

- I will put the picture of the dragon on the board. I will write under it "This is a dragon".

I will ask them: Do you think there is enough description of the dragon? Then, I will tell

them we can be more specific in our writing, by describing things in detail using

adjectives. So, who wants to help me? Who can describe this dragon? I will write their

answers on the board.

- I will write the rule on the board (adjective, adjective, adjective, Noun with, noun,

adjective.) I will tell them we will use this rule to write expanded noun phrases.

- I will give them the worksheet 1 of describing the elephants that came out from under 25

the stairs. I we tell them to write expanded noun phrases. I will give them 5 minutes as a

challenge, (I will emphasis on them to write their time when they finish to see who will

when). Then I will ask for volunteers to share their work.

Close (wrap up, discussion, brief review activity or assessment): 5 min


- To check their understanding, I will give them worksheet 2. I will explain: in this

worksheet there are 6 sentences. You have to change the sentences using expanded noun

phrases. I will model the first one on the board.
