WORKSHEET # 9

A. Give the 10 modules for the strategies of teaching and explain each.

Module 1: Teaching and Learning

One will not exist without the other; thus, there will be no learning without teaching or
vice-versa. Learning and Teaching provides leadership and support for educators to ensure
engaged and effective teaching and learning for all students. In this module, the discussion
will focus on the issues related to teaching and learning.

Module 2: Classroom Management and Discipline

In order to teach, one must be able to manage the students. No matter how much
potential one has as a teacher, if one is unavailable to control the students in the classroom,
little learning takes place. The approaches presented in this module deal with a set of rules,
limitations, and consequences of behavior.

Module 3: Types of Students and Teacher Discipline

In order to be an effective teacher he/she should be knowledgeable not just in the

subject matter but also in handling of different types. The student, especially those we call
problem types, can be handled in a way that would be most beneficial for the class.

Module 4: Measurement and Evaluation

These tasks are very essential in the learning process, testing and evaluation provides
a thorough discussion on these. It is through these that the students performance is
monitored in order to know if there is progress on the part of the student.

Module 5: Instructional Objectives

Instructional objectives are applied based on what the students have learned at the
end of the lesson. The teacher and the students have learned at the end of the lesson. The
teacher and the students are responsible for organizing and identifying what the lesson are
to be undertaken.

Module 6: Instructional Methods

Good teaching involves good questioning, especially when large groups of students
are being taught. Skillful questioning can arouse the students curiosity, stimulate their
imagination, and motive them to search out new knowledge.

Module 7: Instructional Materials

To facilitate learning among students, teachers cannot overemphasize the need in
using the instructional materials that will attain the objectives of the lesson.

Module 8: Instructional Technology

There are some special materials and equipment that motivates the learners and
enhances their interest in learning by using instructional technology. In most schools, a
variety of technological instructional aids are available to facilitate a teaching and learning
processes.

Module 9: Grouping for Instructions

The most common means of organizing the students for instruction is to group them
according to their age and grade level, and sometimes their ability, and assign them to
specific classroom teachers.

Module 10: Module on Effective Teacher

There is no such thing as a perfect teacher but there can always be an Effective teachers.
It strive to motivate and engage all their students in learning rather than simply accepting that some
students cannot be engaged and are destined to do poorly. They believe every student is capable of
achieving success at school and they do all they can to find ways of making each student successful.

B. How is teaching a science and an art of employing strategies and tactics to achieve a goal?
A teacher cannot be effective unless they are able to integrate both the science and
the art of teaching. One may be a teacher, but if they are unable to communicate their
knowledge effectively, they cannot impart that knowledge onto his/her students. How will a
teacher impart his/her knowledge and understanding to his/her students if the teacher
his/herself doesnt have any knowledge and understanding at all? Conversely, one may be
an excellent speaker, that ables to mesmerize an audience, yet he/she needs to have a
knowledge of the subject matter, learning theories and teaching strategies, as well as an
understanding of the needs of his/her own students in order to gain the trust that is essential
to creating an effective learning environment.
The science of teaching is the accumulation of information and the improvement of teaching
practices based on the information gained. The accumulation of information can be viewed
on three levels. The most basic set of information would be the acquiring of knowledge in
ones subject area in order to be able to teach it. Without it, there is nothing to teach.
C. Group the students into 10 groups and portrays the strategies for teaching 10 modules.

1. Traditional instructional materials
Its a teaching aid that is based on textbooks, lectures, and individual written assignments.
The teacher is standing at the blackboard with chalk in hand, drawing diagrams and pictures
or writing the lesson notes on the blackboard which the students busily copied in their
notebooks.

2. Technological media

and make teaching like playing some games especially in the case of very young learners.
The use of graphics, audio and visuals in the modern training aids makes them very
impressive as they leave an imagery of the lessons in the minds of the students.

B. Give at least 5 examples of each type and functions.

Traditional instructional materials

1. Blackboards and chalks

Blackboard is one of the very old and most used teaching aids in the schools along with the
text books. Recently blackboards have been changed to green boards, but the basic function
of the board remains the same by whatever color one may name it. Even the material used
for making the blackboards is changed from the ordinary wood to the most sophisticated
plastic, fibre and glass materials of today.

2. Text books
The prescribed texts books of studies for particular classes in a school have been the other
very useful tool in the hands of the teacher for centuries whereby a teacher uses the text book
to read and explain to the students everything contained in the text book lessons. The teacher
asks the students to mark or underline important ideas appearing in the lessons and the
difficult words or the concepts which the students may fail to grasp easily.

3. Charts, pictures and posters

For easy understanding of the lessons, the teachers use teaching aids like the charts, pictures
and posters which they display in the walls of the classrooms. These not only decorate the
walls of the classrooms but also are important tool for teaching in the classrooms. Colorful
charts in the classrooms attract the students to get attracted to the classrooms.

4. Maps, Atlas and globes

The lessons in geography becomes realistic when the teachers use wall maps, atlases and
globes to make the student understand and know various geographical concepts and to know
the locations of various places in the world. Teaching of geography in the classrooms will be
meaningless without the use of these teaching aids. Visit to historical places near the school
is live experience for the children to learn and these also serve as natural teaching aids.

5. Flashcards, flip cards and worksheets

Flash cards and flip cards are another useful teaching aid used especially in small classes to
teach vocabulary and important concepts. Worksheets are an important aid to the students to
work out the exercises given in these worksheets.

Technological media

Computers have become of the most important learning aids of the modern times. Today's
education is considered incomplete without computers. This is the basic machine on which all
other Electronic Medias of learning depend. These can be bought in various forms like
desktops, lap tops, notebooks and simply e-readers. The computers make use of multimedia
program which include attractive colors, clear graphics, wonderful sounds, the fascinating
animations and enjoyable videos discharging to the students the various elements of their
subjects of study.

training. If a teacher is really interested to learn and use this media to teach his or her students
can do it in very short period of time.

3. Overhead projectors and slide projectors, Projector screens, VCRs, VCPs, DVD players
etc.
Slide projectors have a limited utility where you can play small slides on the projector screens
but the pictures are still pictures and not the moving pictures. However, it is a useful and cheap
teaching aid as compared to digital electronic projectors.
